I think the reason they go on is because the show pays for their whole wedding BUT apparently i read that if they call the wedding off, the couple has to pay for everything (which I think is why most people end up getting married even after the wedding is a whole disaster, like some episodes i've seen)

Not really. The groom definitely knows her better (though maybe not her fashion sense) but it almost always turns out that she doesn’t care about the bridesmaids’ outfits at all, and occasionally she likes them when they don’t. Once in a while she agrees that they are hideous.

That episode was really bad, because the guy was trying so hard - the dresses had a nautical theme because he was doing a Titanic-themed wedding, and he'd put so much thought into everything, and the bride's family were trashing him at every opportunity. The bride loved everything in the end, but they treated him like an idiot from start to finish.
I think black bridesmaids’ dresses look very nice, especially ones with a bit of white so they don’t just look like random cocktail dresses. Plus they can actually be reworn on other occasions.

People don't seem to understand the meaning of a wedding. To mix death into the a day that should be marked by a surfeit of blessings for life, is a horrendous perversion of the sacred, holy rite that is marriage. Sadly, to most Western people, a wedding is just a big party. They've lost all understanding of it's true profound meaning. This is a huge part of the reason divorce is rampant. My comment won't be popular, doesn't make it any less true ;)
MissJessyeNorman While I agree that the divorce rate is high, the majority of people will stay married. More importantly, divorce rates has been going down in recent years. How does that fit into your belief? Is there truly only one ‘profound’ meaning to marriage (just thinking about that makes my skin crawl because it reeks of indoctrination of the patriarchy) or is it possible that there is more than one road that leads to Rome? If your comment is true, can you show us the research to back it up?
Sorry that you are very confused. Marriage is not sacred or holy. (Nothing is.) Religions did not invent marriage - it is as old as human societies.
