The song tells of a woman who moves to Austin after breaking up with her boyfriend. Less than a year later, she decides to contact him. She calls numerous times and is greeted by his answering machine that explains where he could be. The message always ends with the following phrase: "And P.S. if this is Austin, I still love you," which is referring to the female as Austin.
I was coming to write this same comment, but you got it!!
THANK YOU! I'm sitting talking to this video trying to explain what's going on.😂😂😂. Geez Louise
I was pulling my hair out when they stopped and had the story all jumble fucked. Its country so it is slow. Its not a hard story to follow.
@@lbjohnnyjohn yeah I was more yelling than talking. Lol. I still luv them though. 😁😁😁
Bless y'all, this one you had so backwards and upside down. The confusion on your faces was priceless. Lol, keep tryin y'all. 🤣
When you get lost….go back and relisten. The song started by saying she left to find herself…and he figured she went back to the city of Austin because she talked about it all the time. So when he left his voice message, he referred to her as the city she was in.
Austin is the woman!
The woman he loved moved to Austin,TX , so when he refers to Austin ,Shelton is speaking of his girlfriend (Austin]. She calls him a year later, but gets his answering machine. At the end of each message, he says if this is "Austin" I still love you. The last phone call is his girl on the phone(no machine) realizing the time she has wasted, and that she still loves him still, too.
His girl moved away to Austin, Texas and that was mentioned in the first part of the song. She called him a year later from Austin and on his answering machine, she would hear his recordings for incoming calls and they always ended with 'P.S. if this is Austin, I still love you.' referring to her being in Austin. So you hear two of his recordings she heard over 2 calls to him. She leaves just her number the second time and he returned it Sunday evening. He calls and the last verse is her live on the phone and she finishes by saying 'BTW boy, this is no machine your talking to. This is Austin and I still love you.' He had held on for a year waiting on her. True love for sure.
Ok y’all don’t speak Okie, so lemme break it down for you. Ain’t nobody named Austin, he’s just calling her that cause that’s where she’s from and went back to. She walked away from the relationship to clear her head. She calls him a year later and hears in his message, “If this is Austin I still love you.” When she calls back and gets the answering machine again, totally different message, same exact ending. So obviously dude updates his outgoing message all the time and then ends ends it up with “If this is Austin I still love you”. She leaves her number, he called back, she pretended for a min to be an answering machine, then says “Psych!!! It’s me I love you too!” Country love song happy ending! The end.
Perfect explanation!!
Austin is his nickname for her...changing his message every day for a year to say where he'll be and that he still loves her.
Blake has an AMAZING thirty year career - this song was his very first hit - and it's still my top favourite. Gives me chills every time. The Baby and Ole Red are his other two biggest hits. Ole Red is a MUST watch video. God's Country and Come back as a Country Boy are two more fantastic videos. And Honey Bee is very sweet and hilarious. Btw - I always understood it as Austin is where she was from - but she was using it as a reference for HERSELF. Like saying "This is Chicago - and I still love you.".
Wonder why everybody forgets about "Goodbye Time."
Also, as a bit of trivia: "Ole Red" was a cover of George Jones. And "Goodbye Time" is a cover of Conway Twitty.
Ya know I'm so use to seeing Blake with the short hair he has had for years now. Seeing him this young and that mullet, it makes me giggle. Austin was the girl.
He's talking about the woman he loves who moved to Austin.
This is my favorite song Blake Shelton sings
The girl who left him is Austin because that’s the town she went to
No matter how many songs he does, my favorite is always Som Beach
Seems like this was his 1st song about 20 years ago. Is that right ?
@@brandonrickbornponyexpress6574 A couple of different sources say this song came out in 2001, it was Blake Shelton's debut song.
@@jamescurfman3284 thought so. Remember like it was yesterday.
"Goodbye Time" is my favorite. Despite it being a cover of Conway Twitty, who I also love.
Austin is a place, (maybe Texas) he said she figured she had gone back to Austin she talked about it all the time. That is in the opening lyrics. When he says P.S. if this is Austin, (referring to her) I still love you. Listen to it again, they are basicly plying phone tag.
Austin is the girl. He’s singing his answering machine message. If it’s Friday I’m at the bar if it s Tuesday I’m bowling and if it’s Austin ( CALLING) I still love you. And he said he’ll get to his messages on Sunday. Then she called and just left her number then he called it and she said my heart is still yours and this isn’t a machine it’s (actually) Austin.
"Austin" (female) leaves to find herself. He figured she'd gone back to Austin, so that is what she is referred to as in this song. After a year, she calls him up. She gets the recording where he states "P.S. I still love you." In the second verse, she hears the same and leaves nothing but her phone number.
In the final verse, He calls the number back. In this verse, she is doing the communication: "...and by the way boy, this is no machine you're talking to. Can't you tell, this is Austin, and I still love you."
Austin is a nickname for her, She went to Austin and it was his way when she heard the reference to Austin she knew it was her.
Austin is the City that the girl who left him moved to. She calls him.and gets his answering machine. Those are the messages she hears
“Austin” is about a Nashville songwriter who broke up with his girlfriend. When she ended up moving to Austin, he realized the gravity of his mistake. He then changed his answering machine to say, “By the way - if this is Austin, I still love you.”
Austin is the girl, she is trying to call him twice and hears his answering machine, the second call to him she leaves her number, then he calls her Sunday night and "this is what HE heard"....I actually think "Austin" refers to where the girl lives now, not her actual name 🤷🏼♀️
ye[, Austin is a nickname
This is Blake Shelton’s Debut single and it was #1 for weeks. I think Austin is one of his best songs
This was his first hit that made people and the radio people first notice him in 2001. It is now 2022, 21 years later, look at where he is now. Iconic.
He’s just calling her Austin cause that’s where she she ran to.
Yeah that's what I have always thought 🤔
You guys r correct when u say he was talking about the city of Austin... this is one of his first hits
Everyone explained it well. This is his breakout song. This is the trigger to his fame
She was calling him the first two times when the machine says if this is Austin I still love you. Austin was her not him. Cause it said she waited by the phone on Sunday evening and this is what he heard then she says can't you tell this is Austin and I still love you after she said everything else.
I love your channel. You are genuine and unafraid to question preconceptions.
This is my favorite Blake Shelton song, this was Blake’s first number 1 song and the start of a long career
I’m from Austin so I love this song
The story is about a woman he refers to as Austin who left the singer. He changes his voice mail message every day telling the caller where he is and what he is doing. At the end of the each day, he leaves a message for 'Austin', the love of his life. 'Austin' finally calls him and she cannot believe that he STILL loves her. She calls him back 3 days later and leaves him a message in return and tells him she should have listened to her heart and realized she loved him all along. **PS, if this is 'Austin', I still love you** the singer talking to the caller, 'Austin'.
OH, Rull Mourn said the same thing :) yeah, that's it!
A mistake in breaking up, he put a new outgoing message on his answering machine: “By the way - if this is Austin, I still love you.” Both missed one another.Blake identified with the song right away. “I’ve had girlfriends I’ve gotten back together with after we’d broken up, and it never worked out,” he recalls. “But ‘Austin’ relates to all of those situations, whether it works out or not. It’s really about second chances.” This song inspired couples across the country to give their own broken romances a second chance, although the real couple who inspired the song never did get back together.
Oh wow, Baby Blake. First album, I had it on a CD, I listened to it every single day. I saw him on stage once, rode the bus from Montreal to Vermont, 5 hours to and back just to see his concert
Ohh yeah a hidden GEM! Country always have a story!
I wish that Blake would put out more songs like this.
I live in Austin, It is the music capital of Texas..😎
This song was one of Blake's biggest hits
I think it says in the first few lines he says he thought she went back to Austin. The song is a little confusing. But a great song. Blake is from my state. Great guy
Dig that mullet the 6ft 5in star is wearing.
BJ YOU ARE RIGHT IT IS AUSTON TX
He basically knick named her "Austin" because she always spoke about going back there. Austin was the girl.
This is the song that made him so well known. 😆 it's just so old. It's really a beautiful song!!
You got it backwards. She left her number. Replay it and listen, concentrate. You can do it. Lol
When listening to country always pay attention to the first line in the song
He was talking about Austin Texas, he is calling her Austin since that is where he thought she moved to. This was his first hit
My brother's first hit song, back when he was still rocking the mullet
I think his song "The Baby" is amazing!
That song went all the way over y’all head 🤣
Wow! She has Beautiful skin..😍🥰😘
"WHO ARE YOU WHEN I'M NOT LOOKING",Blake Shelton
this was one of his early great hits
Another one!! Texas family showing love
Austin is his code word for her on his answering machine. Every time she calls it he's selling a car or he's going fishing etc but at the end of his answering machine message in case she ever calls him he tells her he loves her. Her name is not Austin he thinks she went to Austin so that's his code word for her.
Baby is my favorite song from Blake's first album, most will say Austin was his breakout song but for me Baby made me a fan.
My wife was in the same class as he was in high school at Ada, Oklahoma. She didn't know him that well but it's still cool
PS I still love you, This is Austin(her)
Rather than mention her name he refers to her as "Austin" cause that's where she lives.
this was blake shelton's first song on radio
Y'all are usually so on top of the lyrical meanings behind songs that it was almost hilarious the trouble you had with this one. Other commenters have explained, and I'm certain you both figuratively slapped your heads and said, "Oh, of course!," but just know that it's still a great reaction vid!
Austin is the girl, she had left a year before, so now she is calling him. When she hears the end of the answering machine recording, she can't believe he still loves her. The last one was where she calls him to tell him she still loves him.
I was yelling at my phone the entire video. Got to the end of the video and they left still confused 🤦🏾🤣🤣🤣🤣
Into beginning of the song it says she went back to Austin
❤❤❤❤❤
I was confused the first couple times I heard it too.
This is Blake's best.
Austin was his first song . Yeah Austin Texas was what he was talking about. She left him and moved back to Austin Texas.
Absolutely love this song
Yes you're right BJ she lives in Austin
She went to Austin TX. He still waiting, after a yr, for her to call. Finally she calls
To get the full impact of Blake please do "God's Country". And for his FUN side check out "Boys Round Here". But both have to be the Official Videos!
Love ya!💙☮
He was talking about Austin Texas that is where she was from he figured she went back to Austin Y'all need to listen to the song all over again
Yesssssss finallly Texas
It was talking about the city Austin
She realized she loves him too and made a mistake leaving him
The girls name is Austin !!!! Shes from Austin Texas ! She got home sick and left him to go back home to Texas.
3:34 No!!! She’s the one calling him and listening to his answering machine. She’s from Austin, that’s where he thought she went back to. She is “Austin”. She’s calling him.
Austin TX yeaah great city
OMG Austin is where she was from in the song it says he figured she went back to Austin it's a girl calling him after she's been gone
Austin is the city that's where she went to.
Sangria and Came here to forget are good songs by Blake
Hahahaha you guys are all over the place with this one.
he was talking about Austin Texas she moved there he called her Austin like a pet name.
That was one of his first songs
The girl is Austin not because her name is Austin but because after they broke up because she needed time she went back to Austin like she always talked about wanting to do and a year later she called him for the first time in a year and she was surprised to hear on his answering machine that he left her he said PS if this is Austin I still love you and then at the end she called him back to reply to the message on his answering machine she heard and she said this is Austin if you're calling about my heart it's still yours and she should have listened to it a long time ago and she would have known where she belongs with him so when she was driving she was going back to him
Country music is more complicated than most.
Eric Church "STICK THAT IN YOUR COUNTRY SONG "
She moved away to Austin,to find herself, but he never gave up on her,she didn't forget him,"this is Austin" is so they know who it is calling
Austin is the place the girl that left went to....a year later she called and those were the messages on the phone.., He left messages on the Phone for each day and each one ended with "PS if this is Austin I still love you" So she figured out that was an amazing love and went back at the end of the video. The headlights on him at the end are her pulling up.
😂😂😂😂 BJ sometimes I think you'd have trouble hitting water if ya fell out of the boat. Just kidding around, but lil true .haha
The male is still in love with a girl who left to find herself and to clear her mind. The male leaves a message, knowing that other people will hear is committed to Austin, with the hope she will hear the message when she calls--someday. When the girl does calls, she become aware that he is so in love with her while he saying in his message that he is still alive and living but so deep in love with the girl who went to find herself. The girls is surprised that the male, after such a long time is still waiting for her to call. The males has fallen head over heels and is waiting on that call from the girl. Just imagine someone wants to start a new relationship with another person and calls then hears this message-I'm in love with some one else, what would the new caller think?----now imagine the love commitment is to Austin which could have been a code between them? This song is made to touch your heart and soul expressing how much this man deeply loves this girl.
Everyone explained it perfectly, and I noticed you did Seminole Wind by John Anderson, You should do his song, “Swingin” which was one his better known more popular songs, very upbeat and fun southern, country song!!! The original video definitely gives it more explanation!!
Austin Tx!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's his girl calling back after a year that he's stayed loyal to. She moved to Austin TX
Listen to "some beach" from blake 🤠😄
The lady was from Austin, Texas and he never gave up on the love that he had for her. Therefore, Austin is the place where he figured that she'd went back to. Either way a person looks at it, love is somethin that don't just stop. It takes time and when someone has that much love for another... It has to be
I am thinking seriously about doing a reaction to y'all's reaction 😂
Y’all are both so confused 🫤 😂 😂 😂
He calls her Austin because that is where she went to live.
Love the reactions two cool people
Austin (Texas) is where she lives.
U guys gotta check out Blake Shelton song the baby
Austin is the woman. She left him and he assumed she had gone back to Austin, so it was like a code name. And the messages were outgoing messages on an answering machine (talk about dating a song!) So she calls and hears his plans and then hears her code name and that he loves her. ❤️
If Austin I still love. It's the woman calling
I've been meaning to ask, Asia is that you singing your opening song? The girl talked about Austin so much that became her nickname. And he is still waiting for her.
You got it twisted again She is "Austin" because he said in the first verse she was always talking ABOUT Austin that became HER nickname by him. We do not know either of their real names. How y'all can tell what the lyrics are in a Rap song and not be able to get a C&W songs lyrics is beyond me. I love you both you are so much fun. Even at the end BJ you still didn't have it. Let's try again NOBODY"S name is Austin. SHE the girl TALKED about Austin so much that HE gave HER a nickname of Austin. So HIS name is? NOBODY knows. HER REAL name? NOBODY knows. HER nickname is AUSTIN. So when his answering machine answered he said to the answering, 'If this Austin (her nickname) I am still in love with you. So she called HIM twice and got the answering machine TWICE the second time she left her number and nothing more. Then he called her and it sounded like it was HER answering machine but at the end she said it wasn't a machine it was her. I need a nap, I'm 71 and not in good shape.
