- Hello, and welcome to my channel! I'm back with one of my main videos, and it's a video essay this time! I wanted to bring this topic to the channel a long time ago, because I wanted to let some of the things I want to say out, and also because I feel like most of you agree with me, since we stan artists outside the Big 4 and we know how hard it is for them to get some recognition.
So today I am going to discuss a bit about the Big 4. First I will give a brief definition of what is the term "Big 4", and who are the lables that are covered by this term. Then I will talk about what "Big 4 privilege" consists of, and how it's affecting groups. Finally I will touch the topic of how the 4th Generation K-Pop fans are obsessed with these agencies and how that is affecting both the comunity and the industry of K-Pop.
I personally wanted to bring the last point forth, because I don't see many people say it, but this new generation of K-Pop fans has been more and more obsessed with the bigger groups, and more and more hateful to the smaller ones, hence why the big groups are really big, and the small ones are really small, there are almost no groups that are in between the popularity spectrum.

I going through 2, 3 and 4rd gen. And I agree with this statment. 4rd gen fans was not the same as before. In 2nd gen we are more open to listen and support an underrated group with good music without care about their agency. And I start to miss that moment when all group being treated as a same level. I wishing more for underrated group under small agencies.
I'm not an old k-pop listener, but I agree. Imagine a group like Mamamoo debuting now, with that concept and sound, and with 0 fanbase. They would probably have to disband within a year

I only joined K-Pop in the very end of the 3rd Gen, but I did notice that 4th Gen fans are much more close-minded that the 3rd Gens one, and knowing that 2nd Gen was also like that makes me more sure about what I said! 4th gen wasn't always like this though, 2019 people actually payed attention to many groups from smaller agencies (Oneus, CIX, AB6ix, Everglow,...), but in 2020, when TikTok was taken over by K-Pop fans, and when the pandemic arrived, and many people joined K-Pop, it seems like the fandom evolved into what it is now :(
I agree with everything you said, it’s so unfair when the smaller groups I stan don’t get the attention they deserve. I’ll admit I first got into kpop bc of the bigger groups (Blackpink) and refused to listen to anyone else, but then when I started listening to groups from smaller companies it changed my whole view of kpop. After that a lot of big groups’ music just didn’t feel the same to me. A lot of smaller groups have such creative and unique music that isn’t generic at all and clearly not made just to be popular. groups like purple kiss you can tell put so much into their music and make it bc they actually love making art, they’re not just making whatever for attention
8:32 Exactly, this song is very emotional and soft. Many young teenagers(11-15) nowadays are forgetting to *feel* , to try and understand something that thought-provoking. These younger generations are the majority of the new wave of fans drawn in by 4th gen. They have not been taught how to try to appreciate the finer things, the finer values in life, so they don't even try. In my personal opinion, Luna is the best title track Oneus has released yet.
Younger people, hell, even people my age(taking I'm also a young adult), have started 'liking' things because they are 'popular'. This has happened because the society, the all-powerful social media today, tells them to 'follow'. It's never "Do your own thing, have your own likes and dislikes, bring some uniqueness to the table, work your way to achieve your goals", it's always "Follow this, follow that, like him, like her". We are not supposed to be carbon copies of each other, we are supposed to have qualities that are either completely our own, or expressed differently than others. Thus, the stagnation you have mentioned above has found its way into all aspects of life and society. To the conscious people: Let's try to spread our consciousness and positivity whenever and wherever instead of turning away our faces from the problem because it is too depressing. If we can enter even a little seed of thoughtfulness in someone's mind, it's a win for us

I love small groups, the fact they don’t have a big fan base makes them to try their best and work harder
I noticed my fave kpop groups are from RBW started from MAMAMOO, ONEUS and PURPLE KISS
Periodt same here, I'm a RBW stan, although they lack on promoting her artist correctly, specially Mamamoo their star group.

RBW is amazing! Oneus is in my top 3 BGs and MAMAMOO is in my top 3 GG as well. I’m also getting in to Purple Kiss. I really appreciate that RBW gives/supports more unique concepts. So much of Kpop is cookie-cutter but they stand out in a way that definitely deserves more recognition! I hope they continue to promote (their promotion videos with Oneus and Purple Kiss lately have been amazing!) and debut some fresh new groups.
Sometimes I really feel disappointed with the current generation of listeners. Why don't they give it a try but decide not to just because the group is not popular? There is one thing that I'm sure no Big 3 fan can feel: the feeling to see how the idols group grow each day and then gain recognization from the public. I'm just sad because I know if ONEUS came from Big 3, they would definitely become one of the most famous boygroup of gen 4. But at the same time, RBW produce such quality product. BTW, I love how you just use all ONEUS's visual films to advertise the new comeback.
Big 4 privilege is all part of the front runner culture. Everyone wants to be part of what's popular and trending. BTS wasn't even celebrated by Koreans until AFTER the rest of the world acknowledged them. I agree with you on your video. This part of kpop culture is what I dislike the most.
The sad part is the one time oneus did start going viral with same scent, an attention seeker decided to traget poor ravn with false accussation making him leave the group that he has help write a good portion of the music and loves. The first time oneus went viral was was with valkyrie being popular with multi bg stans. To add to your point theboyz a non big4 group is one of only two 4th gen bgs that ever actually charted well in korea(also korean fans are good at supporting non big 4/big 3 groups since the beginning, it was just a narritive ifans pulled to make them look bad)

1st of you are wrong about hybe..the difference between big 3 and hybe is that big 3 is management agency and hybe is a corporation who took some management companies under its wing... Hybe don't manage groups,, it's their respective management agency that is bighit(bts,txt and Lee hyun), source( leeserafem), pledis(seventeen and Fromis 9) ,belift(enhypen),ador(newjeans),koz(zico) and now recent one which I forgot its name of..and management agencies only manage groups within their company.. Like if some scandal happened about source music artist then only they can handle the situation not other companies within hybe.. They have nothing to do with each other..thats the difference..like if some scandal happens in jyp then other jyp artists also get some criticism from netizens cause they are in same management but if something happens to hybe artist then everyone in hybe also comes in criticism even though they have nothing to do with it cause they are not even from same management
