I knew Stevie for his last 2.5-3 years, and though I appreciate your commenting on how well he played high or sober, I can’t help but feel he’d rather the focus be on how he found Sobriety and joy after a lifetime of struggles. He was so grateful for his second chance at life, and wanted to spread the word about how Sobriety could save others. He was sober from October of 1986, through his passing on August 27, 1990. Check out his sober version from the Austin 1989 show. Thanks for spreading the Stevie love!

I love that man for his sobriety. I too struggled.
I love his talks on Life Without You.

LOVE Stevie Ray. :-))) [Saw a documentary about him years ago and he'd gotten off the drugs nd booze. His face was glowing like Moses' after he'd spent 40 days on the mountain! Stevie Ray was a man transformed. Did my heart good to know that's how he ended his life. I can't wait to hear what he's playing Upstairs. I have to believe that's exactly where he is.]

The only man I know that could take one string and sing one note and take you places you didn't know existed . Ashame that he left so early and he had got clean and was on top of everything he done .

‘A Tisket, A Tasket’, a great and yellow basket was a little nursery rhyme Ella Fitzgerald sang in some old, very old movie, and so Stevie incorporated that into his song. (yes, you can see it on utube.)

Another Stevie Ray anecdote I've heard as documented, is that when a callous on his finger came off during a performance, he super-glued it back on during the break, and kept playing!!

Thanks for sharing your insights about Stevie's prowess in playing, high or not. Yes, he was a most amazing musician!!:-)))

It warms my heart to see you younger guys discovering "The Steve".
I've also watched your transformation from not knowing jack and can't even say his name.
T throwing out facts like his sweating on stage while he's high on the mountain of coke.
I was lucky enough to see him when he was sober five times the last two years of his life. I wear that like a badge of honor.
    He's like a drug.

Excerpt from LA Times SRV article :-)))
He [Stevie Ray Vaughan] credits support from family, friends and fellow musicians with pulling him through. Among the latter was Eric Clapton, who Vaughan had met in Australia two years earlier. “He’d been sober for a time when we first met, and I was drinking heavy,” Vaughan said. “He didn’t tell me what to do or not to do, he just looked at me drinking and said, ‘Yeah, I guess sometimes you’ve got to go through that, don’t you?’ He knew I had to hit bottom myself before I could get up. And some of the things he told me turned out to be principles of the program I use now.”

I don't know if I said this one on this thread but you need to see Stevie Ray Vaughan and Albert Collins played Frosty at the New Orleans Jazz/blues Fest.
Also watch Stevie's buddy Jeff Healey. "See rhe Light" with the legendary Dr. John on piano.
    Treat yourself.

See how Stivi is played by the second minor (16 at the time of recording) beast from Japan (next to Junna drums). HAL-CA plays in the instrumental trio Asterism.

I don’t like to bring it up but since you did, I appreciate you saying what you did because it is unbelievable that he did what he did in that “condition”! Not sure if you take requests but react to this one if you can. There are many versions but this is one is great because he talks a bit at the beginning and says something funny. “Willie The Wimp” ua-cam.com/video/yLZI2z19vbQ/v-deo.html
