And, yes, I am slightly embarrassed by the number of guitars that I own.
My favorites: the G&L ASAT Special (I really prefer current/recent production to vintage); the Collings 290 DC S (somehow, the only Gibson style that appeals to me is the LP DC and DC Jr., though I'd probably go with a mid-2000s US-made Melody Maker, something about that particular model appeals to me); the PRS McCarty Soapbar; the PRS DGT (I cannot say enough good things about PRS Guitars, the CE22 is my favorite); the American Originals Jaguar (because I've decided that Jaguar pickups are my favorite of all time); the Gray Skipper (all the good parts of a Jazzmaster, but better, except the pointy headstock). You guys need a Rickenbacker or three.
1:21:10 Fuzz on its own with the Skipper? Kinda dark, wooly, nice. Turn on the delay? The change in impedance and all of a sudden it's bright and spiky. I know this wasn't the intent of the episode but I couldn't help but notice that clear change in the fuzz tone, even before the repeats started! Thanks for teaching me this stuff, guys.

@@ThatPedalShow I am not a fan of those kind of 'keyboard warriors'. Big fan of yours and totally respect that it's best to avoid them. See you monday for the VCQ !
I almost can’t believe I’m saying this but you and that PRS are a match made in heaven! I’ve never been able to gel with the aesthetics of them but it can’t be denied that they sound and feel great.
@@ThatPedalShow I picked up my Danelectro reissue from years ago (before they became somewhat cool again) Forgot how much I loved the sound and feel. Very unique guitar. Did a whole show just with that one after. I was into cheap unusual guitars for a while.
@@ThatPedalShow I wanted an affordable, no frills guitar to experiment with, and bought the same guitar on sale at a great price. I put E.B. “Not even slinky” 12-56 on it and drop tune it to standard B. It’s a great baritone for exploring new sounds, and soon new tunings.
That was a lot of fun. Honestly, I wasn't sure if I was going to be into a fly-by guitar tour (as much as I love you guys!), but what I really ended up enjoying was listening to all the different tones and styles they all inspired the same hands to play. Very different than listening to UA-cam reviews of different guitars by a bunch of different people. Thanks much as always.

Hi, guys! I just got my t-shirts and fridge magnets in the mail. I’m a big fan of your show. Having been quarantined for months I’m feeling a touch lonely. Your personalized, hand written thank you note meant so much to me. Maybe that’s weird, but I really appreciated it. Thanks! So, hey, go buy more guitars. You deserve it!
Thank you Arthur. We mean it - you guys buying stuff keeps the show afloat. Dan and I buy our guitars amps personally for the most part (we do buy a few things for the show) but the cash we make from merch and Google and all that pays the rent and for the editing and camera gear etc. Thank you - you keep the show on the toad! (I like toads)
Mick and Dan, if you want a great t-shirt idea, I recommend Dan’s favorite quote: “Absolute Legend” it will sell like hot cakes 🥞!!!! Who does not want to be an absolute legend?! 👍
I haven`t watched TPS for a while this video caught my eye... and Dan what an absolute legend. Your playing has really stepped up. It was not bad before or anything, but your sound has evolved and it is beautiful!
The gap between what the player feels and hears versus what the listener sees and hears is demonstrated very nicely here. Good showcase for the lesser known brands (or designs) too.
I LOVED Dan’s shredding on the JEM, that was such a lot of fun. Any time the show gets too serious in future, please bring out that guitar - it brings joy to any situation!
Have to say Karl Longbottom's Strat with the P90 and Radio Shack (!) pickups sounds superb. The 61 SG Junior shows the door to the over-engineered Collings and I'd go for the DGT over the R8 any time.
@@Adipsia1 thanks again Peter, in my slight correction I was referring to when mick said that it was a Wilkinson. I don't remember radio shack but I do remember tandy's

Big fan of the tele and strat you put together for TPS!
Made a list after watching of the 13 that stood out in my memory. And ranked them. 1. Les Paul Jr. 2. Mick’s 335 (RIP) 3. The 65 tele 4. The 61 Strat 5. Transit van 6. Blue 7. Not Jimi’s Strat 8. Jm Strat 9. Gretsch Jet 10. Red 11. Classic series jazz master 12. Longbottom strat 13. Supro gold foil So many good sounds across the board!
If one has ever needed a proof that less is more - here it is. One Pickup, all the sound you ever need in the context of rockmusic. That 61 Les Paul Jr is really an amazing sounding guitar - and, not to forget, was played great by a man who knows how :-) Great show, as always!
I had the video playing and wandered off into the garden for a moment. When I came back through the door and heard playing, I immediately thought 'that's got to be Butters' and it was. Guitars really do have personalities.
There a song from the 80's called, '88 Lines about 44 Women" . I would love to write 66 lines about 33 guitars but I won't. Some quick notes First of all. Always a treat to tear the venerable Red. Blue as well. Second. I've spent 99.9% of my life never even thinking about G&L guitars until I hear one being played. Fender-ish in it's own way. Third. Blues on a de-tuned Supro is just downright greazy. Whoa.
Really enjoying this episode! Just got to the Pacifica part. Love it! My first guitar was a Pacifica 112, bought in ‘97. As my collection expanded it ended up in the loft and not working. A couple of years ago I dug it out refinished it, popped in a couple of Warman HBP90’s with a Broadcaster Blender circuit and a tone cap switch. I now play it quite a lot. Sticking it on the neck pickup with darkest tone cap engaged then through a Big Muff and it sounds like a giant crushing the universe.
Great show. In the spirit of "How many guitars do you need?" Answer: "One more." May I humbly suggest that you add a Danelectro with lipsticks at some point? I have two reissues from various years and they both sound amazing in a very distinctive way from anything else.
Great Stuff guys. I’m about the same age as Dan and back in the early 90’s I too gigged a pair of Ibanez RG560’s (In lipstick red & cobalt blue) in a completely unfashionable 80’s tastic pop/rock band (Think DuranDuran, INXS. A Flock Of Seagulls). Once set up the trems never went out of tune and I was that confident. I stopped having a guitar tuner in the board. Such was the Ibanez’ reliability. Rock On!!!
Bryan Mannoia every Saturday I watch TPS while doing just that. Sometimes I’m sad because all my guitars have new strings and are well intonated and there’s a TPS to watch but then I start on my basses.
Dan playing that 61 Strat, probably the most inspired playing I’ve ever seen... You could see Dan feeling every note, and Mick sitting next to him with his eyes closed feeling every single note!!!!!
I was suprised that there was no thinline tele in the mix. I would like to see what Dan would do with a '72 thinline tele (the one with wide range humbuckers).
The 61' SG Junior was my personal favorite, I owned a 63/64 from 1981-83 and kicked myself everyday for selling it. What a tone beast a single P-90 can be in the right guitar and that Jr has buckets of Mojo in it.
Jau Timbol they’re my very fave Strat pickups and trust me I’ve tried a whack of ‘em. Best combination I’ve found for sounding great and punchy clean but love playing dirty with amps or pedals.
Watching this at work, and my friend says, "Party on!". I feel ashamed I've never thought of Wayne's World while watching y'all. Keep it up! Excellent! WOWOWOWOWOWW!
Wow. That jazzmaster sounds amazing (maybe due to personal music tastes). Would love to see you play that more, you played in a very different style with it also, and i really enjoy it.
Recorded an EP in 1999/2000. Neither me nor the bassist/lead guitarist had any decent gear at all back then. Borrowed a Pacifica from another mate and it essentially saved the recording. JP made it sound incredible through a borrowed Peavey Bandit 112. Also borrowed a Les Paul copy from a music shop. It wasn’t very good but we used it anyway. That’s the only time I have ever engaged with an LP style guitar.
Yes, maybe we should call them out? Mine- 1996 Washburn BT-8 with dimarzio. And it's not just me, my oldest son and buddies always want a schwang with that super strat.
my ex wife used to ask how many more guitars I intended to buy. my guitars never ask how many wives I plan on having. just one reason why guitars are better. one wife was more than enough but I want at least one of every guitar ever made. great video, thank you.
Fantastic guitars and playing!! Great show!! I have bookmarked this episode to play it again. Two comments: 1) rotate thru the guitars when you open the show and when you demo pedals and amps. 2) If I were your marketing manager, I would demand that you put a D&M Drive on your board and show it off.
The mark of a stellar TPS episode is when I keep trying to turn the volume up even though it's bloody loud in my ear. Truly inspiring sounds again and again.
The 61 strat was the pick of the whole bunch for me....beautiful, raunchy, rude and rocking all at once! Sell all the others you don't play and buy that bad boy

I would still love to see a video with the title "Mick's personal guide to his perfect strat set up". I would like to hear all his knowledge about my personal axe of choice. Cheers chaps!
I’d love to do it Thor..... but id get very depressed at the 10,000 comments telling me I’m doing it wrong. Ha!
@@ThatPedalShow I am not a fan of those kind of 'keyboard warriors'. Big fan of yours and totally respect that it's best to avoid them. See you monday for the VCQ !
@@ThatPedalShow I feel you Mick. Anyway, your aproach to setup seems very practical and real world to me. So +1 for the vlog.
I almost can’t believe I’m saying this but you and that PRS are a match made in heaven! I’ve never been able to gel with the aesthetics of them but it can’t be denied that they sound and feel great.
oh man when Mick played that supro it sounded like Joey Landreth and Doyle Bramhall II having a baby together
I’ll take that. Apart from Dan’s ‘61 Junior that was my fave sound today. Cheap guitar, funky tuning, playing the blues. Whodathunkit!?
@@ThatPedalShow I picked up my Danelectro reissue from years ago (before they became somewhat cool again) Forgot how much I loved the sound and feel. Very unique guitar. Did a whole show just with that one after. I was into cheap unusual guitars for a while.
@@ThatPedalShow I wanted an affordable, no frills guitar to experiment with, and bought the same guitar on sale at a great price. I put E.B. “Not even slinky” 12-56 on it and drop tune it to standard B. It’s a great baritone for exploring new sounds, and soon new tunings.
Timestamp?
25:15 Here is the Supro Jamesport.
I love the look Dan gives when Mick reveals his tele is tuned down. He'd be looking at me like that all day.
That ASAT sounded killer. You guys need to play it more. Excellent episode guys.
I am leaving work early just to watch this episode! actually, I'm leaving work early because I have to drive from Texas to Montana tomorrow. I'm going to go home and pack up watch this episode and go to sleep. When I wake up hitting the highway!
Woah! That’s a drive. Enjoy it William!
EOB. Legend. I also rewatched that episode recently. It is one of the greatest TPS videos of all time.
I haven`t watched TPS for a while this video caught my eye... and Dan what an absolute legend. Your playing has really stepped up. It was not bad before or anything, but your sound has evolved and it is beautiful!
Ah, cheers Axel, still working on it 🤓🙏
The gap between what the player feels and hears versus what the listener sees and hears is demonstrated very nicely here. Good showcase for the lesser known brands (or designs) too.
My two take-aways from this.
- That Supro is fantastic.
- Dan is a much better guitarist than I think he gives himself credit for.
That's really kind of you to say Peter, a slight correction all the pickups are from radioshop
@@karllongbottomguitars9192 I know... whenever I hear the name Radio Shop it takes me back to Radio Shack and Tandy's. ;) Lovely guitars Karl.
@@Adipsia1 thanks again Peter, in my slight correction I was referring to when mick said that it was a Wilkinson.
I don't remember radio shack but I do remember tandy's
I strive for my plying to impact someone the way Mick’s impacts Dan. Dan makes a face and a nod of approval. It’s awesome.
With all respect to my best friend Daniel... he’s impressed with everything. His impression gland is very near the surface. :9)
The Carl Longbottom Tele sounds incredible. Big fan of the p90 in the neck position!
Oh thanks, slightly inspired by Eddie Vedder
@@karllongbottomguitars9192 (sorry to post this publicly on TPS's channel but didn't think I'd get a response from Karl Longbottom himself!) I am actually putting a guitar together myself (video on my channel), it would be great if you could give me some pointers :) I'd really appreciate some help with it!! Big fan of the tele and strat you put together for TPS!
@@AlexisGuitars I will have a look for your channel later on today (busy afternoon )and let you know if I can offer any advice
@@karllongbottomguitars9192 thank you mate :)
I think the S style sounded even better. That P-90 in it sounded fantastic.
Made a list after watching of the 13 that stood out in my memory. And ranked them.
1. Les Paul Jr.
2. Mick’s 335 (RIP)
3. The 65 tele
4. The 61 Strat
5. Transit van
6. Blue
7. Not Jimi’s Strat
8. Jm Strat
9. Gretsch Jet
10. Red
11. Classic series jazz master
12. Longbottom strat
13. Supro gold foil
So many good sounds across the board!
That Supro and 61 SG are a lethal combination. Well done guys!
If one has ever needed a proof that less is more - here it is. One Pickup, all the sound you ever need in the context of rockmusic. That 61 Les Paul Jr is really an amazing sounding guitar - and, not to forget, was played great by a man who knows how :-) Great show, as always!
It’s strange what a Friday feels like without watching TPS, cheers guys!
Meaningless and hollow? I'm totally with you.
Mick’s hands - the ‘335 - that two rock - PERFECT 👌
Tell you what, that G&L ASAT would (I think) be my "T-style" of choice from that first category. What a revelation!
I had an ASAT, that I sold... need it back. They are special
Me too...loved it.
Really unique sound there
I have one. They sound fantastic and the build is astounding! Got to love G&L!
On these small work speakers, the ones that inspired me the most were:
"Red" Tele
ASAT Tele
Supro
PRS DGT
Mick's Jazzmaster
Mick on any Stratocaster
Him on the Jazzmaster was just legendary. I'm always so glad seeing when he really connects with it, makes for some absolutely amazing tunes
Dan has found his sound. Needs to ween himself off the teles and grasp his inner Gretsch!
I had the video playing and wandered off into the garden for a moment. When I came back through the door and heard playing, I immediately thought 'that's got to be Butters' and it was. Guitars really do have personalities.
That 61 SG/Les Paul is amazing. I shoulda picked one up in the pawn shops in '72 when they were $200
There a song from the 80's called, '88 Lines about 44 Women" . I would love to write 66 lines about 33 guitars but I won't. Some quick notes
First of all. Always a treat to tear the venerable Red. Blue as well.
Second. I've spent 99.9% of my life never even thinking about G&L guitars until I hear one being played. Fender-ish in it's own way.
Third. Blues on a de-tuned Supro is just downright greazy. Whoa.
There's something magical when you put a Jazzmaster style guitar into a fuzz.
J mumbles in agreement.
@@CappyRev I'm not really a Dino Jr fan but for some reason Mumbles fascinates me. Also, he needs to calm the fuck down.
Never saw the Jamesport played on the show, and then Mick goes and just lays it down thick on it! Inspired playing! You were in the zone.
No Reverend guitars ☹️.
Amazing collection though, so many beautiful gems!
56:45 I must have watched the Ed O'Brien episode ten times! It's amazing
I love Dan's Paul R8
Wise words, and great name. (mine is pronounced the same) :)
I am of the school that I have one gun, one sword and one guitar. Friends of mine are the opposite ;)
I bought a Danelectro U2 to have something a little different. Now it is the rest of my guitars that are different.
One new guitar for year sounds like a nice lifetime plan 😅
Great Stuff guys. I’m about the same age as Dan and back in the early 90’s I too gigged a pair of Ibanez RG560’s (In lipstick red & cobalt blue) in a completely unfashionable 80’s tastic pop/rock band (Think DuranDuran, INXS. A Flock Of Seagulls). Once set up the trems never went out of tune and I was that confident. I stopped having a guitar tuner in the board. Such was the Ibanez’ reliability. Rock On!!!
Some poor bastard had to tune all these guitars.
Respect.
tuning is nothing compared to changing strings and intonating. that is the only part of guitar collecting that I don't like.
I can say that things after this video :
1- I need to buy a Gladio
2- That 61 strat is on another level
It really is. It actually hurts a little bit.
Stacking into the KoT is a wonderful thing. I use the Thorpyfx Dane, however the Gladio is also amazing.
Yeah baby, that will WORK!
@@ThatPedalShow, how do you feel that the D&M compares to the KoT?
The 65 Tele is a beauty! What color is that? Honey Blonde or classic Butterscotch Blonde?
Dan going off on the Jem never gets old.
The 61' SG Junior was my personal favorite, I owned a 63/64 from 1981-83 and kicked myself everyday for selling it. What a tone beast a single P-90 can be in the right guitar and that Jr has buckets of Mojo in it.
The fat 60’s in that american vintage sounds phenomenal! Just waiting for my set to arrive!
And we all have that one guitar, that we only touch once a year and then say,”what a fabulous guitar, hoe come I don’t play it more!” Lol
To Dan’s wife: Dan NEEDS a tele with a Floyd Rose for Christmas!
Can’t unsee that. Unclean unclean unclean! (Mick here)
Although.... they’ve done a 40th Anni Floyd. Hmmmmmmmmmm
That Pedal Show then its CHARVEL time!!!
Tine is far too classy to let such an abomination into the house! :)
I have played a couple of custom shop teles with Bigsbys. We all need that option.
That Pedal Show I’m a guitar maker... I may have to just send something your way 🤔😁
Fantastic guitars and playing!! Great show!! I have bookmarked this episode to play it again. Two comments: 1) rotate thru the guitars when you open the show and when you demo pedals and amps. 2) If I were your marketing manager, I would demand that you put a D&M Drive on your board and show it off.
Shopkeeper: How many guitars do you want? Dan & Mick: Yes
Hahhaahha
😂😂😂🤘
The mark of a stellar TPS episode is when I keep trying to turn the volume up even though it's bloody loud in my ear. Truly inspiring sounds again and again.
Nice. Can we have another hour or so of Mick rocking the Supro with that glorious tone next week pretty please?
Jesus ! Dan's 61 Gibson LP junior was out of this world ! Tremendous
Old shit. Best shit. Mick here.
@@ThatPedalShow Solid evidence right here ! Cheers man !
The 61 strat was the pick of the whole bunch for me....beautiful, raunchy, rude and rocking all at once! Sell all the others you don't play and buy that bad boy
It has been discussed.....
@@ThatPedalShow ahh ok. I must admit I have only caught one or two episodes a month of this channel over the past year or so and obviously missed the one detailing why you have been denied becoming the owner of this 61.
I truly hope you find another as great as this one and can call it your owns someday.
At least your blue start is pretty darn close hahaha
You are so right about the junior. Fantastic sound. I've been lucky enough to play about 20 or so 1950s Les Pauls including a few bursts. Best I've heard, a double cut 59 junior. Magic.
Didn’t you have a Duesenberg Julia? I really wanted to hear that one.
I remember reading that Yamaha Pacifica piece in GM! I had one as my first and only guitar at the time, and I remember being so excited and inspired by all the different mods
That said the single cut creamy looking PRS looks delish.
I put P-Rails in my Strat, and ever since, it's been my #1 guitar. Just amazing.
