Thanks for doing this video and clarifying the alleged mistranslation. Could you please consider doing a video or two on divorce? Particularly vetting the cultural claims of Dr. David Instone-Brewer? Thanks for considering my request.

Thank you! I have been hoping to get to that topic eventually actually. I'll see if I can work that one in sometime in the near future! I have spent some time looking into his work in the past.

@@breweryministries Thanks. I look forward to your videos on divorce and the then Israelite cultural context about divorce and how it should influence our understanding of Scripture.

With the pregnancy of Jesus, Mary was a virgin, however she and Joseph had several children through normal human reproduction which means she was not a virgin her entire life as some people claim.

There was no word for cousin in that day they called each other brother or sister. No Jesus did not have a brother and Mary is still a Virgin. Anything otherwise is blasphemy. Give Dr Anders a call on EWTN week days at 1pm CST he’ll answer any of your questions. Btw he was Protestant theologian until his KJV Bible gave him all the answers and realized he was actually Catholic and came into the fullness of the Truth. Very well educated man in sacred scripture you should give him a listen

That makes sense. I could see in that culture they would call cousins brother or sister.

My understanding is that Mary certainly was not a virgin. Jesus could not have had an older brother if Mary was a virgin however this does not mean that Mary didnt have a "virgin" birth as in, she did not have sex to concieve Jesus. This in no way degrades the importance of Mary but it is important to remember that today that the inability to consummate a marriage is grounds for annulment. Which I would imagine would also be the case back in the day.

Ah, yes, is what you're referring to the view that Mary remained a virgin? I'm not sure how old James was (haven't looked to see if he was younger or older than Jesus for sure) but I believe some Catholics hold the view Mary remained a virgin even after Jesus was born. I personally don't hold that view because of the mention of Jesus' brother. Interesting points!

@@breweryministries Let me rephrase, Mary had sex prior to the birth of Jesus. She must have unless Jesus older siblings were from another mother however based off of the information that Im aware of and how culture viewed divorce and children out of wedlock I doubt that his siblings were from another mother so that means they must have been born through the tradional means. Mary did not conceive Jesus through the touch of a man, she was made pregnant by the Lord himself - hence virgin. Not touched by a man. Divine. For example, lets say today, in 2024 - a woman gets pregnant and it's not through the means of science, sex or any other means. She woke up one day and was pregnant. Her previous sexual history would be irrelevant in regards to how the child was conceived. How would you describe that woman today? Miraculous certainly. And when someone asked what makes it miraculous, what would you say? Virgin certainly would be one word that you could use to describe it. Definition of virgin in a nutshell can simply mean "untouched". She wasnt touched when she got pregnant and this was the same with Mary and Jesus. It doesnt insult Jesus, Mary or Christians. It just better describes what likely happened.

I think I follow what you're saying. I hadn't heard that Jesus' siblings were older than him before. Do you know if there's a source for that? I'd just be curious to read a little more about it

@@breweryministries Look into the story of the Apostle James, who was Jesus brother. It's a debate within Christianity in some circles from what ive seen. The brothers are named in Matthews 13:55 and Mark 6:3. Theory 1.) what I mentioned. Theory 2.) Jesus was only child, and brothers mentioned are not blood related but akin to "cousins" 3.) Jesus was only child between Mary and Joseph, brothers are his half brothers from Joseph previous marriage.
Bible is clear that Mary was a virgin when she gave birth to Jesus but afterwards she had sex. Matthew 1:25
Orthodox Christianity views James being from Joseph previous marriage which would make him older. I was incorrect however with the view that James was from Mary as different translations of the bible provide different interpretations of Matthew 1:25 - some include "firstborn" and others just say "son". KJV uses Firstborn so we're going with that.
But I think my point mainly was that the Catholic view that the Virgin Mary remained a virgin after the birth of Jesus is untrue however that doesnt diminish the importance of Mary or the "virgin birth" aspect of Jesus at all.

This is a channel of the devil. Make all the fun you want but when you take your last breath the Blessed Virgin will be right there with Jesus asking Jesus for your pardon. If you only knew. Btw again here me loud and clear there was no word for cousin in those days everybody was addressed brother or sister. Your kjv is doing you wrong. It is not hard to accept and to believe because what humans have not seen or heard, is indeed possible ! Let's face it, we only know a max of 10% of reality around us because our brains only process 10% of what we see, in other words we see more but the brain does not process it so we ar enot aware of the rest.
I believe anything and everything is possible, if you consider the endless alternate/possible realities.

Whats does the Christmas tree in the background represent? Isn't that a pagan practice? Arent the decorations hanging from it graven images of idolatry? Isnt that the equivalent of Solomon erecting alters to foreign gods to pacify his wives & concubines?

    • @breweryministries
      @breweryministries  11 місяців тому

I personally think the difference is the intent behind it. To me, I associate Christmas trees with Jesus' birth. Although that association is made through personal experience, I think the reason a Christmas tree is put up changes the context. If they're not put up in an attempt to connect with a pagan god or are not dedicated to a pagan god, I think the context is different. From the Biblical author's perspectives, something had to be dedicated to a pagan god for there to be an issue (or in the case of idols, created for a god to inhabit). So in most cases today, I think a Christmas tree is just a tree. That's my read at least.

Yes its possible Mary was a real Virgin.... God is a just God and has a legal reason why He did what He did... The legal aspect of the Sin of Mankind and mary being the one whom God chose to bear "Jesus" into the Flesh..
And why Jesus was the One to give himself for the forgiveness on Mankind..
Sin passed through the generations through Man's flesh not the woman's... Her being a Virgin was purity for God's plans...
I never saw any real evidence of Nephilim or other alien spirit beings either? But yet everyone says this is what went down in our ancient past...
The God of the Bible is the only Spiritual and awesome being that has my best interests..
Where as the Nephilim are ancient aliens who don't give a crapp... screw them.
