I'm so glad I found this song again. The first time I heard this was in 2008, I was thirteen and I was in a really low place, I was being bullied at school for how I looked so I began starving myself, only eating one meal a day and hating myself every step of the way, I was weighing myself each morning to see how much I had lost and being proud of what I have done to myself, one night I was going through UA-cam and came across Gin - These Roses, it was uploaded on to this account so I decided to see what else this account had, which then led me to this song. Just hearing this song for the first time gave me goosebumps, and I cried because this really hit home. The day after I sought help from my family and friends and got myself back to being me again. Every time I am low I just think of this song and sing it to myself. I know it sounds so stupid that something so small like a song made such a large impact on me, but it did. and I am so grateful for Vanessa for making such an amazing song that changed my life, and now I can love myself.

I'm so happy for you. And it's not stupid at all, in fact Vanessa and any songwriter or person involved in the making of songs like these would be so touched that they could have an impact in any way. Tbh I felt silly that I had a lot of feeling for this simple song and that it could move me so much. So I'm so pleased that it also had a more remarkable positive effect on another person. To me, I believe when art moves someone like this, it must've sincerely come from a good place. The artists really must've meant it when they wrote "stay forever who you are, don't change a thing, because you're perfect". I'm glad you believe that about yourself too.

Was never much of a fan, probably due to the 'poppy' nature of 'Absolutely Everybody'. But some years ago I saw her live at Werribee mansion supporting Jimmy Barnes and she was incredible. She sang everything from 'Absolutely Everybody' thru 'Perfect', 'This is Who I Am', and more; she walked thru the crowd with a remote mic saying hello to people - and then she finished with four songs, 'Black Dog' and 'Rock and Roll' by Led Zep, 'Long Way to the Top by AC/DC and finished with 'Folsom Prison Blues' by Johnny Cash!. Jesus what a range that pocket rocket of a woman has! I became a fan - instantly. And Barnesy acknowledged her too - she and Mahalia sang backup while he performed, and mid-song Barnesy says, 'Jesus these two kick my arse every night'.

This is one of my all-time favourite songs - in my all-time top 10. As Vanessa says: it's perfect. Everything about it. And it's a crime Vanessa isn't well known internationally (apart from Absolutely Everybody ... great song but her talents extend well beyond). One of THE best vocalists from Australia. Her voice is versatile, majestic and truly felt.

my old band supported vanessa at tempus two winery in the hunter vally, about 12 months ago....let me just say that she is the most incredible female vocalist i have ever heard in a live gig, and she does not lip sync any songs whatsoever....she has an unbelievable vocal range for such a petite lady....not that size matters...ye....thumbs up for the 'Ness" she is unequivocally awesome...

The thing i love about vanessa is that she isnt fake.. this song, the lyrics are all about that.. But also her voice.. The fact that she sounds better live than she does recorded, and vocally she is amazingly talented, the fact she can belt out some extremely high notes with no effort.. its surprising it took so long for her to become a hit outside of australia, since she is better than anything america has produced..
