- Her Majesty's Coastguard is one of the four UK emergency services - saving lives at the coast for almost 200 years.
Today, HM Coastguard delivers a modern search and rescue (SAR) service, responding to 999 calls as well as radio and satellite distress calls.
When someone’s in trouble, we send out helicopters, lifeboats and coastguard rescue teams. We coordinate this from our 12 control rooms around the UK coast - 24-hours a day, 365-days a year.
Sea and coastal conditions can change fast and you can get into trouble before you know it. Enjoy the coast safely, make sure you check weather and tides before you set out, wear appropriate clothing and footwear and be aware of the risks.
If you spot someone in danger at sea, or on the coast, you should always call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

According to my dad, when we were in great Yarmouth, the coast guard were constantly patroling and saving people, and were even helping people when the coast front started flooding.
We do local reassurance patrols at times of forecasted bad weather for exactly that reason, glad to hear the teams local to your dad helped to keep people safe!
These guys do a tremendous job!
Fantastic job done by whole team at HMCG, from the MRCC watch officers, Volunteer Cliff rescue teams to the pilots and aircrew of the helicopters. PS that aircraft better have the nick name of ‘Maggie’ ! :-)
You do an Amazing job saving lives at sea. I also now realize that you also look after our Cetaceans! Well done guys and girls.
Saving Lives at Sea is the rnli?
@@Andrew-mv5kt the RNLI perform many of the rescues out to sea around our coast along with some independent lifeboat organisations, the Navy, other boats who may be in the area and Coastguard helicopters, more closely inshore the coastguard have volunteer teams around the coast who respond to cliff, mud, search and anything else below the high water mark but all are tasked and coordinated by the Coastguard who are legally responsible for search and rescue around our coast line
We love you guys....
Thank you HM Coastguard and RNLI.
Great video of unsung heroes!
Great team nationwide from CRT's to the SAR Helicopters and control centres
This is awesome! I'd love to have a closer look at one of your helicopters!
FLIR pod on the front looks awesome
That helicopter is putting my OCDness to the test...
How come?
What are the requirements to join the coastguard ?
There should be patrol helicopters to look out for aircraft in restricted airspace
Why would the coastguard be patrolling for aircraft?
That's the US role. Different countries give different responsibilities to their Coast Guard. In the UK, unidentified aircraft and boats are patrolled by the Royal Air Force and Royal Navy. HM Coast Guard is responsible for lives in danger out at sea or on the coast. In the USA, the coast guard is weaponised and has the responsibility of responding to unidentified aircraft and boats.
@@Aviation18 The U.S. Coastguard seems more of a military branch, the U.K. Coastguard makes more sense by being a civil protection organisation, and therefore without the macho military "training". The Royal Air Force is responsible for defending U.K. airspace.

They all so do hand overs out at sea with the french navy probably wont show you that
This isn't the royal navy, this is the hm coastguard. The hm coastguard is not a military organisation, it's an emergency service. They almost definitely do not do "hand overs" with the french navy.
