Thank you for taking the time to comment and I am happy your found the video helpful, enjoy the rest. Great group of videos on learning the card, which is the key to picking a hand ua-cam.com/play/PLuQyslOYV5NRHrez_TJbQzDcJTeYIpj_D.html ENJOY! Welcome to Mah Jongg!
Just watched your classes and they were very helpful. Am taking lessons, and these videos kind of put the puzzle pieces together. This will make my lessons easier to understand after watching .
Good to reinforce your lessons, glad they were helpful. I use them with my students also. Hope you are enjoying playing virtual on one of the great Mah Jongg website.
Washing the tiles does not mean that you are physically cleaning dirthe cleaning dirt off the tiles. It means you are mixing them up and you do more mixing than what was actually shown in the video to mix them from corner to corner and across the table and mix them all up so you don't have similar tiles together.
That's correct Laura, I was the only there to mix the tiles and it's just a summary of the game. Face down and completely mix like you stated above. Thanks for pointing that out!! :)
This was really helpful! I did have a question about winning mahjong: Can the winner call mahjong by claiming a discarded tile and calling for a winking hand? I thought you can only call mahjong from picking from the wall?
Glad you found it helpful. According the the National Mah Jongg League rules you can call Mah Jongg for the win from a discard/wall pick/ or joker exchange at anytime.
Who knew that our situation would be so extended, Mah Jongg online is a great way social distance and contactless. You can zoom with friends and play on one of the mah jongg sites
I'm a little confused on the cards and how to play based off the card. Does each player have their own card or is there one card for the entire table? Is the game over once someone matches to the card? What if you run out of tiles and no one has matched the card? The rest of the tutorial was clear and made sense so thank you!
Every player has their own card but they are all the same. Each individual player chooses the hand (sequence) from the card they want to build based on the tiles they are dealt. Once one of players completes the hand they choose with 14 tiles, they win. This is done by picking and discarding tiles. That game would end and a new one begins. Sometimes no one wins, that's called a wall game. The card is made up of 60 hands (14 tiles each) that you can choose from.
This is an over view of the game, it's not detail of how to play. If you like information about a specific part, the Charleston, you can watch this video ua-cam.com/video/mbQvmgEvfco/v-deo.htmlsi=OizVoDyN7-XxJYIi
I’m having a difficult time understanding the dragons. R they considered wild for that suit? Or just dragons for hands that have dragons in them. Thank u for doing these videos. Finding very helpful.
Dragons are used with the suits. Craks = Red, Bams = Green and Dots = White. However, the white dragon has a dual purpose, they are also used as a zero in the year category and when used as a zero it can go with any suit.
in american mahjong; once you commit to building a hand to win; is it still pretty easy to change to a different hand? it seem like is not too flexible; thank you!
I'm a newbie. Just got my new game set from Amazon. Q: How do you put the arm-pusher on the tray part? There are those 4 black rubber caps on those 4 doohickys....Do I remove one and then insert the arm and then put the black rubber tip back on? Btw, those rubber caps don't unscrew do they? Mine don't seem to want to unscrew or budge! lol They seem superglued on there. Are these black caps pulled off or unscrewed? I don't want to break them. Help!!! lol LOL..lol 😬
I believe that you can pull one of the caps off and put pusher on and put cap back. Those caps seem to fall off all the time on my sets but they are a few years old. Enjoy!
yes. the black rubber is to keep it from falling off when pushing the tiles out to the center of the table. also used to use the chips are money. end of game everyone pays the highest amount of chips. red. green blue, it is not used today for we pay the player that one the hand at the time of the win.
Thank you for showing the game like this. I have not been able to see a tutorial exactly how the game is played from this view.
Glad you enjoyed it!
This whole series of classes has been extremely helpful to me as a beginning player.
Poodle mother thank you for your kind words and so glad you benefited from the series

Nice videos. Would be nice if you could open the card to show when you are explaining colors for hands
It is a copyrighted card.
A video on the card, I am sure this will be helpful ua-cam.com/video/CZ5DVgkTjio/v-deo.html

Excellent! Thanks again.
Thank you very informative.
Thank you for watching Teresa. What did you find most informative about the video, what part did you like most?

If you stay in the same category much easier but there are a few hands you can move to a different category (headings ie 2018, 2468, etc.)
Thank you this is very helpful
Glad it was helpful, enjoy playing Mah Jongg...you'll be hooked.

Thanks, Christine! Just to be sure...do you "pull" them off?...Or do you have to "twist/unscrew" them off?
twist and pull, not a screw on
Yay!! I did it!!! I used a small pair of pliers. Thank you, Chris. 🤗
