About this game:
RogueVania: The progressive exploration of an interconnected world, with the replayability of a rogue-lite and the adrenaline pumping threat of permadeath.
Souls-lite combat: Pattern-based bosses and minions, weapons and spells with unique gameplay. Make do with what you have and don’t forget to roll.
Nonlinear progression: Unlock new levels with every death and explore undiscovered parts of the castle as you prepare for the inevitable bosses.
Exploration: Secret rooms, hidden passages, charming landscapes. Death is the new backtracking.
"We've unlocked the ability for a new random bow" meanwhile that skill still needs 11 more cells.
leahciMheT I know right? I mean come on Egg!
"Ooooo, there's a secret"
*walks away from it*
He didn't pick up the ice bow. He also didn't upgrade to a random starting bow. Will this egg never change I sure hope not.
Ice bow is garbage, so you shouldn't worry.
It might be crap but he would have at least gotten some use out of it over the shield he never used against the boss
Ice bow might have let him shoot the boss to death at the end, instead of panicking and getting smashed while mashing attack as hard as possible.
Ketsuekisan most bows have limited arrows that you only get back when your target's dead...
And again those limited shots would probably have been better than THE SHIELD HE NEVER USED
I dread the deafening "NOOOO" at the end of every run.
"We bought the random bow upgrade" Random bow upgrade still needs 11 cells, but he puts 10 into the healing flask instead.
His dead cells backlog is this small ? Is this a dream ?
This is my favourite series now. Thank you egg friend
This series is fucking dope hell yeah
yup. I have never gotten into a rogue-like or metroidvainia, but this game looked so cool that I had to buy it
Abathur is from the starcraft universe and he is a zerg hero
You fell victim to one of the classic blunders - the most famous of which is "never get involved in a land war in Asia" - but only slightly less well-known is this: "Never get greedy against a boss when death is on the line"!
I really need 2 episodes per day in my life .
Here are some things I know about the game that i don't think you know Northernlion
1. runes on the walls illuminate if ur near
2. if u break a door every enemy behind it (has to be near) gets stunned
3. if u fall into abyss u take damage and is returned to where u fell from
4. try running a Ability run (Abilities are OP)
5. go to the top left of the spawn area to find a secret
6. when u first unlock a item from soul market, the item is dropped on the floor for you to try it out for the first time
the Ability runs are so Cheesy
he+knows
Alex Son 7. You can duck under arrows, don't need to roll or block them
parrying melee gets arrows back
You can hear the desperation in that button mashing at the end. The sweet death cries of Northern soothes my ears as the darkness consumes my souls.
Missed a tinted bow.
"We bought the ability to have a new bow"
Hasn't put the cells into buying that, insted buys a random bow and then doesnt pick it up
Haha, passes 4 runes then says, "I am looking out for runes". Good old NL. This game has been my obsession for the past week.
NL, please DON'T cancel this series
NL. I cannot express how much this series means to me. it is amazing, you and your commentary are perfect for this game. keep it up?
This is probably my favorite of all the games you're playing right now.
This game makes you feel like a badass once you get roll meta down.
Then you roll into a clusterfuck of enemies and game instalock you to death.
I love how NL 2-hits enemies but still goes for the risky +300% damage. Never change
How does NL not have 1 million subscribers yet? He has the best consistency of high quality egg videos out of all youtubers
From my experience NL the twin daggers is one of the best weapons in the game, it's only competition being the rapier.
rapier/phaser combo is pretty dope.
assasin blade and phaser is also awesome
In terms of DPS Double Dags and Rapier are both top tier, however, IMO Electric Whip is the best weapon in the game. With the Electric Whip you never have to get close to enemies AND it auto trakcs, very useful against big skellies and the Roadhog enemies in the Graveyard.
I kinda like the spear too, takes some getting used to but is also very powerful
Electric whip, heavy crossbow, grenade and ice grenade. That's my flavor of the week.
Phaser is so much fun to use. You can push enemies down the cliffs in ramparts by teleporting behing them.
2 episodes a day pls this is a great game that i cannot buy currently and like all great games i have to vicariously experience it through you
He has an amazing weapon-shield combo, constantly pumping those crits and keeps on nagging about being undergeared. Daaaaaamn.
This seems like a much better game than flinthook
Dont you dare
I agree but at the same time flinthook is still good and NL is giving it way more shit than it deserves
I really like both of them. I stopped watching flinthook because NL is horrible at the game, did he ever beat the ghost bosses?
We want 2 episodes a day egg...
yasss
I need my fix.
if not more
That would be sweet. Replace the isaac dailies :P
This game doesn't have that much content yet so he would probably be done with it soon if he uploaded 2 a day.
I can't help but feel good egg scrubbed up on that boss fight towards the end.
This fucking driving me crazy. You thought him missing tinted rocks all the time was bad? Well prepare your anus, he is gonna miss EVERY rune in this game it seems
He mentioned one of the secrets but never touched it. Maybe that was to avoid a challenge that might hurt him?
Hes avoiding runes because theyre really not going to help him out yet, he doesn't think he'll be able to finish it, and more than likely itll result in an unnecessary hit
+314Marvin Yeah, but he misses a lot of the wall runes too.
Good thing runes don't pay out with anything useful, unless they're challenge room runes but I don't think NL is good enough to beat a challenge room yet anyway.
Yea I counted 3 wall runes he hit and glowed red, but didn't even notice.
I've personally found that a shield (specifically the Sturdy Shield) completely trivializes the Incomplete One fight, you can parry literally all of his attacks except the damage aura (yes you can parry the fire wave) and then the shield has him stunned for like 5 seconds. This is the shield that NL had and never used that fight. 10/10 would egg again
I really like this game! I bought it before I knew Egg was going to be playing it, cause it was on sale on Steam, but I'm glad he's playing it. Watching NL play games usually makes me feel better about my own skills.
For someone who has played a decent amount of the dark souls games @NorthernLion, you sure don't know the cardinal rule... "Just because a boss is on low health, doesn't mean he is any easier to kill" Just keep the pace you have the entire fight.
Honestly this is the golden age of Northernlion
Deadcells is the new hotness. Isaac? Old and busted, Dead Cells? New Hotness
as one of the dozens of people that still plays awesomenauts, i really appreciated the joke at 11:33
It's easy to nitpick, but let's just take a moment to appreciate that NL actually did really well this run.
You're right NL, it's not 'Shinobi' in the Blur song Far Out, it's Sinope, one of Jupiter's moons (had to Google the last bit). Fun fact: that song is sung by bassist Alex James, although he sounds a lot like Damon!
Blur are awesome, as is Dead Cells!
What a choke at the end.
Alright Ryan, here's a lot of useful tips:
1. ALMOST ALWAYS DOWN SMASH, IF you know there's solid ground underneath. The greater the distance traveled down smashing, the more damage you do to downward enemies. Just doing a double-jump down smash combo does more damage to the first floor enemies than the sword, and stuns them to boot. If you do it at the top of a chain leading down and a bat's next to it, it'll kill the bat.
2. Dodge roll mechanic from Dark Souls 3 applies to this game as well, roll any time you think you're about to get hit. YOU CAN ROLL PAST ENEMIES TOO (referencing you saying you couldn't last episode).
3. Dude, seriously, ditch the shield, use a weapon that homes on enemies as a secondary(the whip or throwing knives)..the homing weapons will also home in on hidden runes if you're in range. Also you "float" down when using them in mid-air...making them advantageous when you're airborne and a mushroom in the sewers sends up spikes. It's saved me a few times.
4. Search the area top to bottom before going to the next floor, there's tons of goodies loaded in each area that you're skipping...also the timed door doesn't give you anything significant compared to all the stuff you'd pass up to get to the door in time (usually just has gold and a random weapon/skill)
5. Old Sewers has the next rune you want, and leads you to the boss. Ramparts is an alternate route, and I never got the chance to get the rune from the Ramparts stage.
6. Use twin daggers' crit work to your advantage, swing them a few paces away from the enemy, so the third lands, then quickly roll away if it's a boss. I one-hit an elite with twin daggers and 4 strength (actually it was the elite that has the teleportation rune).
7. Turrets are nothing to sneeze at: they help become a decoy while you back away from a tough enemy to heal...really useful for that boss on the bridge.
That's all I can think of for now!
number 3 is SO important, because at the end levels there will be fucking zombies that spawns 3-4 bats, no chance to kill them with grenades or melee, they have too much hp, best is kunai, because kunai have so much ammo, and homing even if you didnt look back, just run forward and enemies on your back, he just throw it back, lol
7, idk i find phaser is really OP, on last boss in helps me so much, but it depends on a play style, i go just fully glass canon melee, you can use turrets and maxing skills, and just clear every stage easily with 2 turrets, but you will suck at final boss
"Target dummy is the hardest enemy in the game"
....Egg you have a long road ahead of you
10:04
> "This is a secret area, I think"
No shit, Sherlock. Maybe you should've activated the rune on the floor?
Love the series so far, fun to watch, keep up!
I haven't been this impatient for more episodes since XCOM.
First of all, I love this game, and I love that you can tell that he's genuinely enjoying it. You could tell that he was enjoying Flint Hook, but it was definitely bothering him a bit with how easy it was to take damage.
Secondly though? NL YOU GOT GREEDY. YOU HAD IT IN THE BAG BUT YOU FEEL FOR CLASSIC DARK SOULS GREED.
you can't say the back tracking is a little less cumbersome while you ignore teleports.
this is so much fun to watch on the big screen. Been watching on my ipod before now. But this is the life.
Bought this game earlier, its amazing.
>buys a bow
>leaves the bow
Goddamnit egg
NL did the classic dark souls mistake of getting the boss to low and getting impatient to kill it. If he had just stayed at his previous pace i think he would have beaten the boss no problem.
He was doing great until he started freaking out about healing. if he had just dodged the attack he got hit on during the heal he prob could have killed him in a few more hits.
Acknowledges a secret, doesn't get it
Is this replacing NorthernLion?
All the likes you could ever need
He's done it. NL has leveled up.
NL - the first floor will have a treasure chest and a shop on it. Don't leave until you find them both!
NL, I'm pretty sure a +1 Skill is better than some 14 damage arrows for a damage buffer. That's practically no damage whereas a +1 Skill would reduce cool-down times AND probably increase the damage of your secondary weapons.
You can see the greed
Remember, overconfidence is a slow and insidious killer.
Not all Goo leads to the sewers. One in particular does and you will always know which one because it's part of the same randomized set piece. Others will lead to upgrades/items.
in the promenade there is a secret, if you jump on the first edge you can jump back and reach the starting rooms roof, there is some foot hold in the wall and if you go up there there is a blueprint (usually), and btw: i think the boss in the sewer will give you the rubbing power you need
Wow your play is so much better in this episode! keep up the good work :D
With two Damage Buffers you can have almost 100% uptime on the buff... just have to alternate every 9 seconds dude. Gosh.
The Inquisitor Mages were doing little damage because of the 75% projectile damage reduction from the amulet.
Is this hollowing Replace Knight?
hope not this is boring
The Devil Room you're wrong
Malthael how so
Thank you for the constant entertainment that you have given me. If I must say though, WHy did you have to be so greedy at the boss.... I wanted you to show up Mathas :(
holy shit, he checked the single wall that didnt have a rune on it :D
Looking good dude, my only suggestion is to use the teleporters more, like after you hit dead ends
Ice Bow is amazing. In fact ice is generally amazing (people say Frost Blast is bad but it is still extremely effective, just has a bad wind up)
Awesomenauts reference!? You got my like
Shields are bad because you usually don't have the time to use it effeciently, when there is more than one enemy that can hit you. In later levels there are monsters that you simply do not want to get close to, so having some sort of ranged is always a good thing.
Inflicting crits is also a very good thing to do, almost every weapon in the game has a crit factor in some way. As you may have noted with the twin daggers, they do a big crit on the third hit. Combine these crits with a lot of strenght upgrades and you're looking at a great run.
+Northernlion You have to finish unlocking items first before you benefit from them. Putting one cell in an item does not unlock it.
He probably knows that, it's just so you can invest in that item for later.
20:23 Souls 101: Overconfidence kills.
The song you meant is "Far Out" - the one which Alex James sings instead of Albarn - and it's Sinope, I think!
northernlion, you might wanna rebind your key so you can attack and dodge at the same time, before you build up muscle memory
we watch this because it's dark souls like and we've been wanting dark souls on this channel again
loving this series :D
I can't wait to buy this game and start playing.
11:35
"It's like we're playing Awesomenauts."
He's played Awesomenauts?
i wait for the moment when NL learns that the Strengh upgrades also increase the bleed dmg on weapons or that skills upgrades increase the dmgincrease on dmg buffer xD
And improve the cooldown that he complained about on dmg buffer.
NL you need to fill up the found blueprints to actually unlock the new weapons
Assassins dagger is a fucking GREAT weapon, dual bomb meta is really good too
Love this series!
Looks like a great game, I am going to get into this over the weekend.
"That's a secret over there." *leaves*
Him not using the shield or health recovery mechanics on the boss makes me hurt on the inside.
yay for this series
I subjected myself to this video so quickly
Not sure why he wanted to trade with the boss, that's Dark Souls 101.
Egg... the teleporters, give them purpose.
Heal up, heal up~
Come on, throw your ice bomb and hit back.
When you unlock an item first time you get a free copy
"This is our RUN bois!" me: *looks and sees video is only 3 minutes longer....* rip.
"we've been doing bad, we're gonna do badder this time!"
Mr Northernlion, I am new to your content and I'm really enjoying it. I started with Geoguessr and of course it's awesome. Watching Synvicta and yourself decipher foreign languages is hilarious, aside from Russian. I mean nothing against Russia or its people it's just that it's easy to identify a language as Russian but that's as far as you're gunna get if you haven't actually learned Russian. ANYWAYS Geoguessr aside, I have one very important question for you, NL, why do people call you Egg?
4 secrets missed in the first 90 seconds.
Shaping up to be a good one!
Honestly nick being better is subjective, you take less damage on the early floor, he had a lot of estus and probably better unlocks.
Loving Dead Cells!
Every time he passes the teleporters and walks back up I die inside.
Use the freaken teleporters! 5:20 you double back and jump over traps instead of just taking the tele back.
the red lettering on items is a negative effect on you so the better items you get the more damage you take.
My man NL gettin wrecked when his wife comes in lollll
And also just a tip, try to clear each level from left to right to maximize the amount of cells u get
loving this content NL :)
Impressive. Most impressive.
But for real, I'm pretty sure I'd be trash at this game, so thanks for the dank series NL!
Ok something tells me the elite enemies are slightly over tuned if that was the difficulty of the boss XD
