as a person who is learning mandarin, it’s bc Chinese characters have a specific way to be drawn and everyone who learns to write Chinese is taught to draw squares that way
I do cross country for fun… it’s like, one of my favorite things ever. I love the exhilarating feeling, sure it gets hard sometimes, but that’s just part of it!
personally i have to say as a pet peeve for art tik tok comps. I hate the street artists. like... 'oh ha ha, I drew these people's insecurities, isn't that funny?!' I kinda just find those tik toks in particular unfunny me
Fr, I was looking for this comment because I was sure as hell I wasn't the only one who thought that. I honestly don't know why anyone would sit there for that, let alone pay. (Not sure if some do it for free or you have to pay, but either way, not worth it at all)
@onigirifrog ikr?! Like... I'd always see street artists doing it in older movies. So I always thought it was one of those things that died out. But yeah no, I guess people love to pay to get insulted.
i dont find them funny either but i think most people are good spirits about it and they know what they're getting into, like they're the ones that paid for the art and they know that its all in good fun to remember the day so i can kind of get it
Personally, I do find them funny because I believe the people being painted KNOW the art will make fun of them. This type of art is called "caricature", and is meant to exaggerate features. People will pay for these because it is meant to show their "ugly" features as prominently as possible lol Here's a part of the Wikipedia artocle about caricature art: Beside the political and public-figure satire, most contemporary caricatures are used as gifts or souvenirs, often drawn by street vendors. For a small fee, a caricature can be drawn specifically (and quickly) for a patron. These are popular at street fairs, carnivals, and even weddings, often with humorous results. Caricature artists are also popular attractions at many places frequented by tourists, especially oceanfront boardwalks, where vacationers can have a humorous caricature sketched in a few minutes for a small fee. Caricature artists can sometimes be hired for parties, where they will draw caricatures of the guests for their entertainment. TLDR; people think it's funny to have artists draw mocking pictures of them. I hope this was informative about caricature, because I think it's a fun way to learn to like your features because unlike the art, it's likely not THAT prominent. Though this is just the opinion of someone from a country that uses a lot of caricature art in ways that aren't supposed to insult people, but be more of a chill joke. And I am an artist myself, though I don't draw caricatures. I have done a few when I was mad at my parents as a little kid and instead of being insulted, they had a good laugh and put them on the fridge for a while.
Yeah same here, I literally skip them because I just hate seeing them. I'm pretty sure I even remember seeing one where it looked like the artist literally just drew a stereotype???? Like, why do you have to show those people, I just wanna see funny sketches or animations
