- So, you've gone wired and are enjoying the speed, stability, and privacy of Ethernet. One problem: There's no button to turn off WiFi on your ISP's router/modem. What to do? Why, hack it, of course!

Good morning Cletus and Scottie! Grabbing my coffee for a new video🖖🏻
Top of the mornin' to ya!
I’m now curious if my router can be set on a schedule for wifi the way you pointed out. Thanks for the video!
my god that was a fast 4 years. has Cletus gotten his checkup? thanks Scottie~!
Oh gosh! You are so amazing. HUG!
👍👍👍.Thank you
I've got dual band wifi and it never did my brian any custard.
And bobs your uncle… 😊
I always stay hard wired. Wish I were in France but there's no escaping the internet or the New World Order. Thx Scottie, be blessed!
Scottie , you are AWESOME !! Thankyou so much for your instructional vids , I am no techie guy whatsoever but am loving your walk through tutorials ....
Keep up the great work mate !
😊👏👏
What about putting the wifi in a faraday type box using EMF blocking screening material? I'm guessing it will muffle the signal but not block it completely.
Scottie is a gigabit chad.
En France c’est LA box ;)
GAH!!! I always get that wrong.
strange, in L.A. they call the city public wifi router - LA router
padoom
ptshhhh
hello my pc doesnt show wifi connection please help
11 years ago I had my ISP turn off Wi-fi from the central office of the carrier/ISP and have been just using ethernet since then.
That works, too!
you CANNOT disable wifi by adjusting a setting or pushing a button. it can be switched back on by the network.
The best way is to by-pass the wireless router altogether and get a non-wireless router to connect to the internet. You can then lead off to the wireless router as an option in the event you ever need wifi.
Tack!
hi can i just ditch the wifi router and connect the ethernet wire directly to the modem? im not worries about not having security
If you only have 1 device you want to connect to the internet, that will work. But if you need multiple devices online, I highly doubt this will work even if you connect a network switch to the modem.
@@JJFlores197 You can connect the Internet connection to a router with no wifi option (a wired router) then lead off to a switch box for multiple connections. It will do the same as using the wifi router but without the wifi. Most modern wifi routers have no 'off' switch for wifi.
@@klmn2000 Yes I'm aware, but that doesn't answer the initial question. And even though most wifi routers don't have a physical on/off switch for the wifi, you can still disable it within the web management/app. And plus most home routers you buy have wifi built in. Its very difficult to find consumer routers that have no wifi built in.
@@JJFlores197 No, that's not correct. Offices use routers without WiFi option all the time. There are wired to wired routers.
@@klmn2000 Which is why I said home routers. I never mentioned business/enterprise level routers.
If you can’t turn it off then shield it! A steel bowl or container to contain it works!
Aloha Scottie 💚🏵️🌴
Open box, remove wifi card, close box.
That MIGHT be possible... but not if you are technically renting the 'box' from the ISP, which is often the case. When I got a fiber upgrade, I had to ship my old box back to my ISP, and they have warranty 'security stickers' and that kind of thing.
Thanks for the video. 😻
😁😀😁😀😁 thank you for your help
Thank You . . . 1 Eye . . .
Its not rocket science or particularly specialist. 😂
No, it's not. But I think for most non-techies, it's scary to mess with stuff. Not anymore!
I guess you can connect via wifi and switch the WiFi off, if you are already connected by cable.
If you do so and you are not connected by cable - you can clone your routers MAC address onto your lan/network adapters "MAC cloning" settings, in order to access the internet by cable.
If you don't know the password either you can't get it, and the one on the box doesn't work - hard reset your router (usually done by inserting a pin into a dedicated hole in the box, but not the one that says AC :). This will make the factory password on the box work again.
If none of those options is viable for you, but you still want your wifi to stop working - unscrew the antenna (the speed and range will drop dramatically), or put it in a faraday box. :)
Cheers mate 👍
You are awesome. Thanks so much for this very helpful video.
Thanks for the reminder, Scottie!
Scottie, we want to ditch the wiifii but have an issue. We have a tmobile modem which is not wired at all from the outside. Its just a wiifii modum but it does have an ethernet to plug devices into. If i were able to go by your instructions in this video, would this modum still be able to connect a signal from the outside to work???
It depends... If the modem connects to the 3/4/5G cell network, then you might be able to get away with disabling WiFi and using only Ethernet. But if the modem gets internet from another local WiFi network, then no.
i use a synology router. great firmware that actually updates. very new user friendly.
I've got a Synology NAS... LOVE it!!! Never had a problem with it.
I see Windows, I leave.
not through one of them, I hope.
@@Apollo440 Since I live on the ground floor I actually do jump out of an actual window now and then, because it's just faster.
Seriously though, best reply yet. I can even forgive you not honoring my capital 'W'.
@@callisoncaffrey hehe, I've honored it much more than that "system" deserves. Cheers!
@@Apollo440 My man!
Awesome info! This may be a silly question, but is there any way to stop a Roku device from emitting so much RF? Sometimes it is as high as a Wi-Fi router.
