captain america 4 is being re-shot because of the female super hero sabra she is an IDF soldier from Israel and due to the Gaza war .... now... they had to re do the movie
“Authentically black” gives me flashbacks of being called an Oreo when I was a kid. What does that even mean lol we just want good characters if they happen to be black great but trying to make characters “act/sound black” is not giving what they think. It’s cringe. I wish they would stop.
Great comment. Not only is it demeaning to reduce millions of people to a single way of thinking, speaking, and acting, but it also elevates those who have given themselves the authority to determine what "authenticity" is.
You were called an Oreo too?? My brothers and I were blessed with a mother who taught us how to read before she taught us how to walk and that elocution was important. And we caught hell for it as kids.
The reaction to this movie's failure is just baffling. When it was about to be released two weeks ago, it really felt like absolutely everyone was on the same page and knew it was about to flop. Then it flops, and suddenly the usual playbook of whining about men and -ists etc. is brought out. The internet is weird, man. Great video, Greg.
Don't forget that the cringy woke activist keyboard warriors are possibly still funded by some far-left special interest group. Right now, that's all collapsing. Take a loot at Media Matter, Musk, Vice, the ever increasing decline of viewership of the MS media. The internet has been captured by corporations, governments, activists, alarmists and special ops. It's the greatest tool of control in the history of mankind. Just look at the smartphone zombies that wake up and go to sleep with their phones. I can imagine going back to life without exposure to the internet. Cutting out social media isn't a big issue. I only use UA-cam and I can feel I've reached the final stages of giving a shit about it. It's all repetitive content, it's mostly a copy of a copy and I'm just bored with it. There's so much to learn, discover and be excited about in books, physical media (dvd's/blurays etc) without having to listen to some twat explaining the meaning or the ending of every single book or movie. It's become an insufferable stew of rehashed content and I'm starting to back away from it. The reward of discovering a mindblowing book with an unknown plot is priceless. Why o why do we need to have some insufferable UA-camr telling us what to read or what to watch? I truly think this era of social media has an expirationdate. After a decade, I think I've reached the end.
Right? I kind of thought this one looked so bad, the defenders were just going to cede the loss. But there will always be a few who think a bad product is only disliked because politics
The thing I read about the Marvels that is so true and sums up everything wrong with it was: "The Marvels is a fun movie that is for 12 year old teenage girls." Problem is 12 year old teenage girls do not watch Marvel movies. Disney has consistently tried to pander to an audience that does not exist while betting that its core audience would continue to support any tripe they put out.
Greg recently made a comment in another video, something to the pattern of (recalling from memory, if I get it wrong, think this has the gist of it): **"When you park your pulled pork truck in front of a mosque, and you don't make a profit, the last thing you need to be complaining about '-ists' and '-isms'.* *You set yourself up to sell to an audience that did not exist, and your product failed to generate one."**
The most irritating thing about the charater Sam Wilson is that before endgame he never even mentions his skin color or race or anything he was just a charater that could grow witb the franchise But after all of it they began to focus only to his race not the charater
Same thing for Nick Fury. Same thing for any number of non-white characters who weren't previously defined by their race but since 2020 need to talk about it all the time.
This is because, before 2020, they didn’t focus on any of the real world problems they face every day, only the superhero parts. Now they can actually slow down and show what effect the Blip had on everyone, especially people of color considering they didn’t have it easy beforehand
Just looked into the comic storyline from which the movie is supposed to be made.....You think it's bad now....Yikes... Even that guy reviewing it couldn't defend it.
@@deadpooldan9862 I would like to think that, but I think it's more about the writers going for the low hanging fruit. "Black character?...what do I do with them?,..What would they say?,...Oh!...I know!"
I appreciate your movie breakdowns more and more man. As much as I enjoy Nerdrotic and the drinker, you approach the topic from a more balanced standpoint. You point out the bad regardless of where it may fall
i stoped watching nerdrotic for that reason, same with the quartering, i agree with the points, i just dislike the delivery and constant rage bait and negativity. (critical drinker to some extent, but not so much as these others) greg aproach is a breath of fresh air with so much more to say than these other youtubers.
@@gregowen2022 yes, I fully agree with jthoma & GameBoy & franklin. I very much like & agree with all those other channels, but they've quit challenging me. I still adore Drinker Fixes & his reviews, bcoz his understanding & depth of creativity shine thru there. But you actually challenge me. You take my Christian beliefs, and apply them in a useful & winning way; bcoz you're talking fun stuff, genuinely looking for points of agreement, calling out my blind spots, and honestly looking for the 30,000-foot-high overarching truth. Now if you could kinda sorta maybe cut out the crudest of the cussing? So I can share this channel with my family & all my philosophy-and-worldview-minded church friends? Pretty please, with a cheeseburger on top? 🥺☺️🥰
Yeah, Greg’s approached is definitely the most balanced. I still watch the Critical Drinker even if he’s more abrasive with how he delivers, because what he’s saying is fair. Nerdrotic, on the other hand, is one of the few examples of an actual misogynist, and I was convinced of that based on his review of No Way Home.
I wouldn't necessarily say "they are out of ideas". I think the problem is that they are using the same people in the production process who's only ideas were "the message", but then Disney tried to course correct at the last moment to remove all of "the message" content from the movie, leaving us with a product that highlights what's left when you remove "the message" from their writing,... which is nothing.
This observation kind of bolsters my own description of woke. Pursuit of a progressive agenda to the detriment of the whatever product service, etc. It is attached to.
Greg, I've said it before and I'll say it again buddy you are built for this. The "crank that" bit that was hilarious. From one too tall for this world person to another, thanks for the content!
Stephen King admitting he didn’t care to go see it either is pure gold, even if he was trying to pander. The movie could be successful if the people it was pandering to cared to go see it. The Barbie movie pandered to women, and it was about something women cared about therefore it raked in the cash. Creating a movie that clearly doesn’t have an audience base is throwing the cart before the horse, and we’re floating because we tried to warn them this would happen.
@@gregowen2022an atheist who won’t suffer for one of the things he supposedly believes in, I guess. I know atheists who have strong beliefs they stand by, even though they don’t or can’t believe in God. Or does King not really believe in this movie after all?
His comment pointed out the utter hypocrisy. Pretty much thinks Marvel films are garbage, but OH, if you say that an all girl Marvel film, then Stephen arrives on his white horse. 😂😂
Great video, Greg, hope we can do a collab some day I HATE that feminists think that a male-centric franchise will come and support their anti-men garbage yet claim "you're not the target audience" and then when it flops, blame the majority fans they didn't want to entertain in the first place
My first favourite book was The Worst Witch. A protagonist who is INCREDIBLY bad at magic, attending a school of magic. Her tenacity and compassion made me fall in love with her (literally, 6-7yo me ABSOLUTELY had a crush on a fictional character that translated to a classmate that looked similar) A good character, with flaws. In a young childrens book. (half of the pages are illustrations, so targeted to VERY early readers) In my early teens I read Dragonflight by Anne McCaffrey. The protagonist is a young woman living in her ancestral home as a servant after it was invaded and her family murdered (not a spoiler, it's literally in the opening of the book) An INCREDIBLY strong woman who uses people, commits murder and is TERRIFIED of everything (bc of her circumstances) A character with quite obvious mental health issues and rather deep flaws was still an INCREDIBLY impactful protagonist for me (Lessa) From Xena to Buffy to Ellen Ripley to Sarah Connor and on (Starbuck from the modern Battlestar Galactica. An example of how you CAN "bring diversity" and make it actually blood work. Cara Thrace was more than just ladybits, dammit!) "Strong female characters" are quite literally my favourite things ever... My favourite from XMen was Rogue (followed by Gambit, but still... and I still have a kink for a southern belle accent) I always preferred Skully to Mulder and I even prefer to play videogames as a female character (if I'm gonna stare at a butt... I'd rather it were a girl) Why do they fuck it up so bad, when their core audience have ALWAYS been some of the most progressive and nonconformist people. You have to TRY and make these themes suck to succeed at it as well as they have. Want a great example of black representation in a Marvel show that is both authentic AND filled with great characters? Watch Luke Cage. They've LITERALLY already done it. So how did they forget?
They're letting feminists make the "creative" decisions... or at least influence those decisions way too much. Look at LucasFilm's "story group"... the She-Hulk writers' room... Amazon's Rings of Power and Wheel of Time...
Great video as usual. Cannot believe I only just got it suggested. The reason "the message thing" is not in the movie is because Disney is getting a little smarter. This movie was short. I bet you the cut Nia DaCosta delivered HAD performative diversity and the studio cut it in the final edit.
I miss when the marvel shows pumped out great villains, Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage. Even agents of shield with the post winter soldier twist was awesome
Call me old fashioned, but I like women that are feminine, not masculine. After all, 300,000 years of human evolution isn't wrong, nor is it toxic. Black Widow, Wonder Woman (2017), The Scarlet Witch, etc... All great characters, all well written, and all Feminine. When Wonder Woman says, "But who will sing for us, Charlie?" A truly powerful feminine moment in film.
I would argue that the lack of character arcs is the "performative diversity" that you seek. Hollywood (and Disney especially) has made the rule that nobody under the DEI protective umbrella can be portrayed with any negative attributes. If a character can't have any downs, then there are no ups to achieve. I don't have to watch this movie to know that the marvel girls are perfect, and the villain is simply misunderstood and they'll all be besties at the end. They literally can't write it any other way (Although the lack of skill present in modern day Hollywood writers is definitely worth discussion. Modern Hollywood writers and directors are simply awful on so many levels that even if not hampered by politics, films are mid at best).
You are correct, they are handling the characters with kid gloves and that’s why they are bland. I saw wish last night and the worst part of the movie is the heroine. They don’t want to make her a girl boss, but also scared to show weakness, so she’s just…. There.
@@gregowen2022 "Feminism is the radical view that women are people." ....unless you're Disney, where admitting that is considered 'problematic'. We've gone so far around the bend that stereotypes and tokenism is now 'good' to these people.
To reference Chris Gore, Marvel was a boy brand, and Disney has turned it into a Girl brand. However now the boys aren't showing up and neither are the girls. Just because Marvel was a boy brand didn't mean girls didn't like it or tolerate it when their boyfriend/husband wanted to see a Marvel movie....which hello, Disney was getting a 2 for 1 when the boyfriend/husband wanted to see a Marvel movie with their significant other. It was a built in +1. By the way, your editing is topnotch, S Tier even!
'She's slightly less wooden than the first movie.' Disney tried like Gepetto to turn Captain Marvel into a real girl but only managed to do it part way.
A lot of good points we didn't hear because my wife and I died when you said "MCUterus." We are dead. Our funeral is in a week. Also, how can you expect them to think that character traits are deeper than aesthetics when progressives themselves don't believe that? They literally think everyone who has the same skin colour or genitals is part of a hive mind and have identical life experiences?
Greg, I continue to applaud your thunderdunk gloating style. There is no question you doing victory donuts in the infield of the demolition derby that Disney has become. Gloat on you beautiful creature
I really wish there were less normies over all there’s still a substantial amount of people that just tolerate woke stuff and support toxic corps too much but honestly Disney has gotten so in your face about it that enough people stopped caring
Membeh when Nick Fury fought off an entire Hydra kill squad in Winter Soldier??? Why they made that same character flee from a single kree with his hands up in the air is just baffling
Sadly the failure of The Marvels and the premiere of South Park Panderverse only delayed Marvel/Disney agenda pushing movies. The "rumors" of the Silver Surfer being gender swapped and Sue Storm being the leader of the FF4....obviously they have learned nothing and continue to throw money away.
As soon as I heard "YOUUUUUUUUUU!" I was transported back to middle school 😂 please let me stay back in the time of iron man and youtube with barely any ads 😭
Per your request at 10:54, there was a scene where Valkyrie and Captain Marvel had a romantic relationship that was cut (some say response to the South Park Panderverse episode).
So, a couple of things: 1. I really like that standing desk! I used to have one at work that wasn't as fancy, and I really dug it. I work from home now, but am not sure I have a good spot for it, but that is a badass desk if I were to get one. 2. I think a point you sort of touched on, but could stand amplification, is the practice I've heard Little Platoon refer to as "reverse gatekeeping." It's where a group/element claims to be a fan of an IP, and demands inclusion/representation. They get in because hey inclusion ftw amirite? Then they push out, or otherwise alienate existing fans by advancing a new narrative/turn that turns off foundational fans in favor of updates for "modern audiences." The IP falls flat commercially, the new group plays it off as "manbabies cry why do they care so much anyway" and move along to something else. But now the IP is trashed, and they're onto something else to either ruin, or be outraged by, thus starting the cycle again.
Very true, and we’re seeing it in real time. I’m not a comics guy, but I’m informed the exact same thing happened and the industry sales are in shambles. It would be a good idea to touch on that more, and look Silver Surfer is a woman now! There’s another video right there, lol
They're pandering to the wrong crowd with that one...rather than making Silver Surfer a woman, it's rather obvious that Galactus and the Surfer should be a cohabiting gay couple. And who better to play it than Cam from Modern Family as Galactus and Mitch as his herald. In the end, Reed Richards defeats them by figuring out that while Galactus may eat worlds, he secretly dreams of being an Auguste clown...
To quote David Burge: 1. Identify a respected institution. 2. kill it. 3. gut it. 4. wear its carcass as a skin suit, while demanding respect. (real "Shift dressing Puzzle as Aslan" vibes) I like your (Little Platoon's) "reverse gatekeeping" phrase. I think I saw it well-discussed on this video, years ago, regarding LotR. ua-cam.com/video/T-wYDD_A9I4/v-deo.html (I know there's some controversy around this guy, but I wasn't invested enough to understand. He taught me a lot about LotR, and got me interested in the culture critic side of UA-cam.)
@@deannaprince7954That was video was excellent! BTW to Greg, I assure you we're only linking other videos for purposes of discussion --- sincere apologies if this is a faux pas! Oh, boy, I can't wait to watch the 5 shows and the 6 movies, read the obscure comic run from 2006, and read the bio of a discontinued toy from a company that no longer exists to watch the Howard The Duck remake!
Another great one, Greg! However, I must say that this black girl loves Natalie Imbruglia and her ex-husband’s band Silverchair. I am also thinking about installing shiplap in my tiny home 🤣
Use this opportunity to turn yourself around, it's not too late. I herniated my disc 7 years ago and was in the worst shape in my life, literally limping around from sciatic pain and was obese. Like you, I'm also nearly 40, but now I'm constantly active and I'm in far better shape then I ever was. Current version of me can beat 20 year old version of me.
The "of colour", women and women-identified and combinations thereof really came out in full force in support of this movie, no wonder it's doing so well critically and financially.
Brie Larson is a great actor, who just killed it in Lessons in Chemistry! Nia DaCosta was in WAY over her head from the start! She had one B-movie to her credit, Candyman and a modest indie movie called Little Woods. A project of this magnitude should have been entrusted to someone with a proven track record for projects like this, not somone without the actual credentials to warrant such a huge responsibility. DaCosta simply didn't know what she was doing and that's the fault of the people who hired her and now Brie Larson, the MCU and Disney are paying for that mistake.
The "blame men" thing doesn't just bug me as a man, but also as an artist. Simply put; you'll never grow as a person if you play the blame game every time you fail. That's something journalists need to figure out, but they won't. They literally get paid to shift blame and make sexist clickbait-y articles. Thankfully, that also gives you content to monetize. That's the only silver lining I can see here.
Yeah that whole "marvel spotlight", you don't need to watch this for later movies... Died by the time Agatha came along. And yeah, Hollyweird seems to be going through a very ODD recreation of the late 60 early 70's movies... It's just they don't recognize it.
Great video, as always! I love your takes on current media. Your comments give me hope because they're so, (dare I say it), normal. Reasoned and well thought-out. PS: It's my understanding that 62% of the initial audience for this latest MCU cash grab was men. So, the agenda-driven critics who claim men are the problem need to examine the FACT that without men, this film would've bombed harder. It's like the WNBA - it's WOMEN that aren't coming to see these films. SUPERHERO movies have always been more accepted by men as a genre.
Exactly. They said they didn’t want or need male audiences. Ok, well here you go. Oh wait, even the female audiences don’t want this kind of movie. You love to see it
Yeah that has been a question on my mind for quite a while. Disney/Marvel is a company that is making a product that people mock and don't want. And then the CUSTOMERS are shamed? How about the company for making something no one wants? Here's a tip, Disney: We're not going to want something just because YOU want us to want it.
Right? It's pretty crazy hubris to blame the customer for not wanting to buy something. Really lets you know they think they own us and we owe them patronage
I don’t think it’s so much that they didn’t write for The Message, as evidenced by stuff like “use Black Girl Magic” to fly. It seems like instead most of it got stripped out on the editing floor, but after doing so there wasn’t any writing left to drive any character arcs.
I'm a grown women and everybody I know including me went to see Barbie. None of us got what we wanted but they did throw us a couple things in the movie. I saw it with my mom. I mean I wish they had made the whole thing for normal women instead of a couple scraps in it. I'm sorry I'm going on a long tangent just to say women and little girls want girly things. Theyre pandering to that one girl in high school who thinks she's better then everybody else because she acts like a dude. Nobody wants to be that girl, they started with just the akward girl as representation and thats fine we all feels not confident but they thought the logical conclusion to that was act like a man. Feminist really just hate women. Edit:Now to be fair I'm a Christian so a lot of stuff I cant get behind anyways but I know that some of this really is that simple.
A note on the "why do you care?" question is that it's more than caring about something you liked being high quality. Why do you expect high quality? Because you've seen high quality from Disney before. Numerous times. They were once the apex of western animation, from _The Little Mermaid_ to approximately _Lilo and Stitch,_ maybe even beyond that. The question of "why do you care so much about Disney movies being bad?" could just as easily be read as "why do you care that your alcoholic friend fell off the wagon?" Because we don't want our friend to die, and if they relapse into destructive habits, that can cause their health to deteriorate catastrophically, as has been exceptionally well-documented. "Why do you care?" is an attempt to recontextualize concern and compassion into a destructive vice. Right back at ya', Disney. To quote the end of the song The Outsider, "if you choose to pull the trigger, should your drama prove sincere, do it somewhere far away from here." I _don't_ care. Not anymore. I was never a Disney guy beyond liking a few movies. I don't do brand loyalty. I have a very mercenary approach to media: you give me what I want, and I give you what you want, with each transaction operating on a case by case basis. Just ask the Gundam franchise, wherein I pride myself on not mincing my words if I find some, most, or all of a series to be painfully idiotic. I've seen more franchises burn to the ground than I care to count. I've come to expect it, even from new and seemingly promising things that I like today. And when they all come tumbling down, it's less and less tragic each time. I let those expectations similarly guide my expectations when interacting with people, as it's only a matter of time before they all reveal what they're _really_ like...
I think they're just changing the paint so their wanted level goes down. To me the MCU died after the last good movie, Spiderman No Way Home. Even if they got their act together now, they still have all those crappy movies to deal with it. Honestly it was a great run while it lasted, even James Bond doesn't compare.
Disney knew that this movie was going to flop hard, which is why it was postponed to November. November is the beginning of the 2024 Disney fiscal year. Another massive flop in 2023 was going to make investors even more apprehensive.
You're so funny, Greg! As a woman, any new movie that features a strong woman (TM) is an automatic turn off..The character that I really really like and wanna emulate is Rengoku from Demon Slayer. Why a man? Because I dont care about the gender but the circumstances. Rengoku San encapsulates all I want to be in life - fiery, loyal, full of passion, displaying strength in the face of adversity, protective etc. I watched Mugen Train 3 times in the theaters because I wanted to support the movie and its creators. Will never do that for an M-she-U movie ever!
I think another more insidious part of the message is that it's not just that inserting it in a movie or story sucks, but also that if you truly believe it, it effects your ability to tell a basic story as well.
Its hard NOT to pile on. Marvel/Star Wars/Disney is on such a comically wrong track at the moment that its difficult not to point and laugh at them bleeding out due to self inflicted wounds. The mighty have fallen before and they will again, Disney is just another case study.
A) 10/10 pun - works both verbally AND written - thank you! This is getting sent to my dad for his Bad Joke Dad Joke collection!!! (Dad preaches AND teaches AND does hospice care, so I am proudly helping him pester vast numbers of people.) 2) Greg, if you want to care about Mongolia, pray over how the jump from no phones straight to smart phones is destroying their family & social fabric. My Christian Veterinary Mission friends were actually told to buy brand new clothes for every yearly trip; by their rural, subsistence-farming, yurt-living villager friends. Their dear Mongolian friends & students are embarrassed that each year's FB pics look the same, instead of flashy & rich.
I feel like most people have kinda fully moved on from Marvel now. Hating/debating Marvel movies isn't interesting anymore, it's becoming boring and tedious to do. I feel like barely anybody who stopped watching Marvel after the infinity saga has the energy left to really care much, besides watching a few videos on the current state of the mcu.
I just binged a couple of videos of yours so I'm hoping I'm actually commenting on the correct one where you mentioned planning to make a video about strong female characters in movies/shows :D Suggestions for the strong female characters video: - Ripley from the Alien franchise - Sarah Conner from the Terminator franchise - Arcane has about 50% female characters and the 2 most important ones are female. Furthermore the show is very diverse even to the point of sounding woke on paper but everyone (including me) loves it because that's not the focus of the show. Seriously if you haven't seen it go watch it because it's amazing! - Mad Max: fury road had Furiosa - Game of Thrones was full of great, strong/smart/powerful female characters (and even when the show went downhill in the later seasons nobody blamed gender, race or sexuality) - Avatar the last Airbender has very powerful and interesting female characters - X-men also has some great female characters Picking some non-western media (which is popular in the west): - Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood has plenty of interesting and strong female characters - Jujutsu Kaisen - Chainsaw Man - Attack on Titan - Ghost in the Shell Honorable mentions: Hunger Games, Black Widow, Lara Croft, Batman franchise (Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, Catwoman, Batgirl), Xena, Buffy, Kill Bill, Mulan (original, haven't watched the remake), Leela from Futurama, the Expanse, ... And since I'm a fan of action movies/shows I will note that most of the characters/movies/shows/franchises that I mention not only contain interesting female characters, but actually strong women. Some are physically very strong (sometimes even the strongest character in the story), sometimes mentally (e.g. Ripley and Sarah Conner), sometimes through cunning (Olenna Tyrell from GoT) and sometimes in a more indirect way due to their position/the power they command (Cersei/Daenerys from GoT), but most of the examples in my list have participated in physical conflict (and more often than not beat physically stronger opponents) and I don't think any of them is really hated by the fans (at the very least not for being a woman... they might be disliked for being despicable characters, e.g. Cersei Lanister from GoT). In fact pretty much all the examples I can think of are loved by the fans! And there's probably a ton more examples I'm forgetting. Saying people (especially men) won't watch something because they are sexist is not just wrong it's also just lazy. Also I bet the majority of the audience/fandom for each of those is male since it's either action/nerdy or both PS: I just realized when writing this list that most of the list belongs to my absolute favorite media. I'm actually rooting for interesting female characters (but not at the cost of dumbing down men). Of my all time favorites there are only very few that are not in that list (Cowboy Bebop, Robocop, Back to the Future, original Star Wars (which has Leia who is great but not much else) and a bunch of 80s action stuff like Predator, Die Hard etc)
I will say it once... I will say it a thousand times. Woke storytelling is NOT a story that contains X amount of woke messages. Woke storytelling is storytelling done thru a woke lens, whether or not the creator decided to focus on messages or not. It will affect any number of creative choices if not all of them. From the inclusion of a stupid reversal of roles like a prince being forced to marry, to the elimination of romantic subplots, to the arbitrary spotlighting of background LGBT characters, to the action being silly instead of believable, to the dialogue being ripped from social media and full of self-referential lampshading, to the supplanting of main characters by side characters, to costume designs that promote body positivity, to song choices that are eyerolling, to shallow character depth, to tonal whiplash, to bad comedy. These are ALL features of a movie made with a woke lens. That's why their is a 90%+ correlation between wokeness and crapness. The Marvels is Woke storytelling at its finest. It's only defeated by something like She-Hulk or Velma which are woke on an additional meta level of being incoherent trollish therapy sessions for their woke women of color creators. Also. There's a VERY good chance that unedited version of this movie probably had a lot of overt preaching. Nia Dacosta got on Marvel's radar for making a horror movie based on Critical Race Theory after all.

The reward of discovering a mindblowing book with an unknown plot is priceless. Why o why do we need to have some insufferable UA-camr telling us what to read or what to watch? I truly think this era of social media has an expirationdate. After a decade, I think I've reached the end.

Marvel used to be made for boys, in which girls would watch. Now that it’s made for girls, NOBODY watches it!
I feel compelled to point out that a twelve year old cannot also be a teenager, by definition.

Damn...ya right as rain
Disney is afraid to give women character arcs because it implies there was something wrong with them from the start
How can you improve on perfection? Handing out Mary Sue clones like Oprah.
A character arc requires the person to admit a fault and change. That goes against The Message that you are perfect the way you are.
Thank God there is no Message in any MCU movie or show
I appreciate your movie breakdowns more and more man. As much as I enjoy Nerdrotic and the drinker, you approach the topic from a more balanced standpoint. You point out the bad regardless of where it may fall

I think the problem is that they are using the same people in the production process who's only ideas were "the message", but then Disney tried to course correct at the last moment to remove all of "the message" content from the movie, leaving us with a product that highlights what's left when you remove "the message" from their writing,... which is nothing.
that actually makes sense
Yes, very good point and would not surprise me at all.

That was the best part. Don’t gloat about this movie’s failure! I mean, I didn’t see it either, but….. 🤣

I HATE that feminists think that a male-centric franchise will come and support their anti-men garbage yet claim "you're not the target audience" and then when it flops, blame the majority fans they didn't want to entertain in the first place
The eternal cycle of
>Take beloved franchise
>Change it from what fans wanted
>Fans no longer want it
>Fans are the problem!!!
Logic!!!
Right? They tell you not to watch the movie and then go, "Y NO WATCH MOOVIE?!
The funniest thing to me is that it's breaking new lows, *_without adjusting for inflation_*
My first favourite book was The Worst Witch. A protagonist who is INCREDIBLY bad at magic, attending a school of magic.
Her tenacity and compassion made me fall in love with her (literally, 6-7yo me ABSOLUTELY had a crush on a fictional character that translated to a classmate that looked similar)
A good character, with flaws. In a young childrens book. (half of the pages are illustrations, so targeted to VERY early readers)
In my early teens I read Dragonflight by Anne McCaffrey.
The protagonist is a young woman living in her ancestral home as a servant after it was invaded and her family murdered (not a spoiler, it's literally in the opening of the book) An INCREDIBLY strong woman who uses people, commits murder and is TERRIFIED of everything (bc of her circumstances)
A character with quite obvious mental health issues and rather deep flaws was still an INCREDIBLY impactful protagonist for me (Lessa)
From Xena to Buffy to Ellen Ripley to Sarah Connor and on (Starbuck from the modern Battlestar Galactica. An example of how you CAN "bring diversity" and make it actually blood work. Cara Thrace was more than just ladybits, dammit!)
"Strong female characters" are quite literally my favourite things ever... My favourite from XMen was Rogue (followed by Gambit, but still... and I still have a kink for a southern belle accent) I always preferred Skully to Mulder and I even prefer to play videogames as a female character (if I'm gonna stare at a butt... I'd rather it were a girl)
Why do they fuck it up so bad, when their core audience have ALWAYS been some of the most progressive and nonconformist people.
Luke Cage was amazing and it had such depth! It made me sympathize with the villain for a while. Damn, that show had good writing.
By the way, your editing is topnotch, S Tier even!
this is the problem with one company owning everything all the products look and feel the same. Disney has no competition to keep them in check.
'She's slightly less wooden than the first movie.'
Disney tried like Gepetto to turn Captain Marvel into a real girl but only managed to do it part way.

To quote David Burge:
1. Identify a respected institution.
2. kill it.
3. gut it.
4. wear its carcass as a skin suit, while demanding respect.

I had a feeling that Disney cut the Capt Marvel relationship with Valkyrie because of the Pandervese episode by South Park. But they'll never tell.

To quote the end of the song The Outsider, "if you choose to pull the trigger, should your drama prove sincere, do it somewhere far away from here."
I _don't_ care.
Another great video, and I'm not hiding my glee at The Marvel's failing, I want my beloved MCU back. And nice GTA pay and spray reference at the end 😄

Look out Nerdrotic, "MC Uterus" might just top M-She-U as the be all summary of Disney Marvel.
17:21 There gonna keep doing as they have been doing that last decade which is to keep burning all their franchise to atoms for another decade.

I just binged a couple of videos of yours so I'm hoping I'm actually commenting on the correct one where you mentioned planning to make a video about strong female characters in movies/shows :D
Suggestions for the strong female characters video:
- Ripley from the Alien franchise
- Sarah Conner from the Terminator franchise
- Arcane has about 50% female characters and the 2 most important ones are female. Furthermore the show is very diverse even to the point of sounding woke on paper but everyone (including me) loves it because that's not the focus of the show. Seriously if you haven't seen it go watch it because it's amazing!
- Mad Max: fury road had Furiosa
- Game of Thrones was full of great, strong/smart/powerful female characters (and even when the show went downhill in the later seasons nobody blamed gender, race or sexuality)
- Avatar the last Airbender has very powerful and interesting female characters
- X-men also has some great female characters
Picking some non-western media (which is popular in the west):
- Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood has plenty of interesting and strong female characters
- Jujutsu Kaisen
- Chainsaw Man
- Attack on Titan
- Ghost in the Shell
Honorable mentions: Hunger Games, Black Widow, Lara Croft, Batman franchise (Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, Catwoman, Batgirl), Xena, Buffy, Kill Bill, Mulan (original, haven't watched the remake), Leela from Futurama, the Expanse, ...
Also I bet the majority of the audience/fandom for each of those is male since it's either action/nerdy or both
PS: I just realized when writing this list that most of the list belongs to my absolute favorite media.

😂😂😂...It's so true. It's like these studios think that we don't understand it. 😂
“You can absorb light. I can… see it.” ❤😂 Hahahahaha.
Strange, I can’t save this video and it doesn’t show up in my history after I viewed it.
Surprised that the movie didn't CATch on, also, I heard only the last episode of loki season 2 mattered
If you watched Ms Marvel, the mom's behavior is on character with her.
