well its true, they probably own a lot of his original masters from the early albums. so they are making big money off those still and when they released him from contract to go with a bigger record company, they would have had a slice of the pie in that contract. like a % of profits for a certain amount of albums.
@@godz1379 for clarity, yes, Cash Money owns the Masters for the early albums. Not sure about the publishing, but the masters yes. And Drake was never released, he fulfilled his contract with Cash Money, and created his own label (OVO) which is under the Republic imprint for Drake only, same as Cash Money, label is under the Republic imprint. OVO for other artists i believe is under Sony. That set up in itself if thanks to Birdman/Slim/Cash Money and their deal with Drake. However, it is rumored that Birdman and Slim are fairly heavily invested in Republic as a whole, so yes they are eating off of Republic as a whole, and anything underneath that umbrella. Whether its Drake, or The Weeknd, or Anitta or Ariana Grande. Republic houses alot of artists, alot of which many fans wouldnt even realize. And surely wouldnt realize that Birdman and Slim are getting residual checks off of.
Republic is under Universal as a whole.
