I am genuinely considering UFO 50 for my Game of the Decade. What an unbelievable and understated accomplishment that Mossmouth could produce fifty brand new, fully-fledged games that are not only consistently surprising and fun and elegant but also consistent within the confines of the fiction of UFOsoft and the LX consoles. Every single game has impressed me and made me want to come back to it after I finished trying them all out. And the experience is only enhanced by not knowing what's in store when I dust off a new game, but confident that it's gonna be a banger no matter the genre. UFO 50 is something truly special and made me remember why I fell in love with video games in the first place.

the fact that the golf game explodes you if you charge your swing too much is really funny to me; imagine an actual golfer backswinging so aggressively that they bonk themself on the head like they're trying to annihilate bugs bunny

Vinny playing Rail Heist and going all in with the Southern drawl and even appropriate insults was pretty fun. And 1:19:50 is kinda the return of Vinny's visceral "YOU!!!" from that one time he got accidentally pushed in Crab Game by Limes.
watching him playing this was kinda painful though. i dont consider him to be dumb, usually he is fairly decent at puzzle-like games, but some of his plays this time were straight up single digit IQ plays. like he had so many opportunities to ran away with how generous the timer was, yet he decided to fug around and in consequence got shot

Vinny's second passive is dying and losing excessively, causing chatters to buy the game in question just to prove they can do better. And good on them, because this game is great and deserves the extra purchases

Ive got to be honest, I've bought a lot of games because I know I could do it better.
Good NES games:
Clash at Demon Head, Kid Nikki, Ikari Warriors 1,2 and 3, wrecking crew, kung fu, Trojan, Karnov, Rygar, commando, Bad Dudes, Skate Or Die, marble madness, RC Pro AM. Those were all bangers back in the day, I could recall more, but nobody is gonna read this and my dog has to pee.

You should 100% do a stream that's just all different first person dungeon crawlers now that you've opened that can of worms.
vinny gets razzed on for blundering through games sometimes (i know i'm guilty of it) but it's honestly really cool seeing which games here click for him that i was just too intimidated by in my first pass. makes me excited to get back to them once grimstone and mini and max are finished up.

problem with nes is the ones i like all have better ports. i could play nes dr mario, its a nice enough version. but wiiware version has quick drop. stuff like that.

I've been non stop playing this game and only got 4 cherries so far. (Cherry is basically 100% completion of one of the games, the cartridge turns red).
I've dumped in 40 hours since launch and it's crazy how much content there is. I beat 14 games and have 8 cherries, and those are from the SHORTER games in the collection. Send help.

I love how authentic these games are to how actual game development on the NES was - like having a sequel in a completely different genre because there wasn't corporate-mandated brand identity (or a clear idea what a game franchise even was), or reusing assets between unrelated games.
There was real research and obsessive nerd passion put into each and every one of these games, and it's all so clearly visible!!!

Vainger is really cool and totally based on a little known game released late in the NES' life called Metal Storm.
If you EVER do a NES gems segment or something after your recent mention of all these great titles, that's almost a MUST on the list with a high rec.

I've spent over 30 hours on this game already and about 12 of those was just Rock on! Island. I'm at work all day just thinking ufo50 and I haven't felt this way over a game for a long long time
Mortol 2 looks like a pain in the ass. The first one is more my speed with a bunch of quick puzzles. 2 looks like a lot to keep track of and a big time loss on a failed run whereas failing a level in the first one is no big deal.

I really like the caveman tower defence game, the horror one is really neat too. I know the whole gimmick is that there's 50 games, but some of them are so good compared to the others they deserve way more content.

I wouldn't compare the games in this collection to NES. It's more like Master System stuff. The sound and music gives it that flavour.
Actually I'd say the sound and music is more PC-Engine/TurboGrafx-esque! It's got that punchy wavetable sound that the Hu-Card/TurboChip and Namco's arcade games from the early-to-mid 80s had
