Spring, 1988. Despite several rejections from the American Consulate, and a year after Li first child was born, she was finally granted a student visa to travel to the United States.
A year later, Li sent back a letter to Zhou, asking for an immediate divorce. Zhou has smuggled into New York City, desperate to find Li but to no avail.
With the help of Jane, a 15-year-old Chinese American he befriended, Zhou began seeking out the people who once knew Li. The journey brought them into a subterranean world once inhabited by Li and countless new immigrants; yet her whereabout remined a mystery......

Was this shot in Sync sound or No sound usually (traditional Cantonese overdubbed by different voice over)?

I'm pretty sure this was shot on sync sound. Maggie's english and cantonese sounded live and not overdubbed.
