we got stopped by an older lady at a metro station while were looking at our map for directions. she was super nice and didn't want anything just a few minutes of chat in english. I think she was happy to practice a little :)
Oh man I loved this collab.both of y’all are so informative and hilarious together hope we get more videos with you two in the future 😊
Ahaha we have to wait for Billy to visit Korea again~ But I love making these types of videos too~ I like taking about different experiences here in Korea 🇰🇷
This was excellent! Yes, DEF make more videos with Billy if possible. LOVED IT.
Loved this conversation! And yeah, everything you said was spot on, especially the "getting 8 sodas just because I wanted one" vibes.
I was sitting with an American friend at a library once just waiting for my Korean language partner to arrive, and then we were going to go off and have our language exchange at a different table. When my Korean LP arrived, he was so flustered that I was sitting with someone because he had only brought two sodas, so he PROFUSELY apologized for only bringing two sodas and gave them to me and my friend, even though he had presumably bought them in the first place because HE was thirsty. This was back in the US, so my American friend was quite confused as to why this random stranger was apologizing for basically nothing and giving her his drink haha.
I think the subway and bus silence ettiquete can vary depending on the city. When I was in Seoul and Daejeon for sure you need to be quite, but for example in Busan people speak loudly all the time in the subway and bus and that got me so surprised since I was used to the silence haha Also, love this collab with such an amazing youtuber like Billy!
Yeah exactly so many Koreans actually have really loud phone conversations on the subway everyday where I live 😂😂😂😂
Can confirm. I was just in Busan and it is.anything but quiet 😂
True that. Busan people are LOUD
Loved this kind of video, you guys merged so well discussing Korea!
I'm glad you liked it!! The original footage was 40 minutes long because we just kept talking and talking and talking ahahahah
@@NataliaGarzadamn how did you cut this down to only 17?!
The food thing, like dinner etiquette, weirded me out ... This is very normal around me. You just wait until everyone has their plate, only very young children get to eat when their plate gets there. It's only a bit awkward when a plate obviously has been forgotten 😂
Same etiquette in Europe
@@christellevaillant6465 I'm from Belgium ;) but wasn't sure if every country in Europe does the same thing 😅 you never know 😂
funny thing in Costa Rica we have a collective mindset (latino familia type of thing) and we do serve water to everyone and we wait for everyone to have their food as well. I didn't notice this until recently
Thank you for blessing us with the PERFECT collab!! 😍
Haha I’m glad you liked it~!! 🥹🥹
It's so cool to see both of you in the same video. I enjoyed learning and laughing about these tips. Thanks!
got to say I loved this! I actually thought I knew a little Korean before moving here as I did study a bit but once I arrived in Daegu I feel like I know nothing haha. Also the trusting Korean bit, super important!
I actually saw the video on Billy's channel first and was like "NATALIA!!!" 😍😍😍😍😍😍 Totally love how you guys finally got to collab with each other, because both your vibes and intellect just click! :D
The bit about waiting to eat with everyone, sharing, and also just general consideration of public spaces is very similar to how it's like in Japan, too. Thank you for the intro to those cultural tidbits!! ^_^
Can't wait for your next video!!!
LOL you saw me be like “😐😐😐😐” about spicy donkatsu 🤣🤣 It was… an experience I don’t want to ever have again ahahaha
Thank you for checking out both our videos ahah 💕
This was soooo interesting! And also useful for my next trip to Korea ❤ when I was there the first time I was so fascinated by how some parts of Korean culture were so different and wild to me, but others were incredibly close to my culture (I'm Italian), especially table manners. The last part resonate soooo much with my expat life, no matter how much you've studied, the moment you step into a new country and you're surrounded by real people, native speakers, talking to you about everyday stuff, the panic is real 😂
I loved this video ❤ thank you for these advices,
Normally I think it’s totally cool to publish videos when you get around to it but I’m a fan of Billy’s channel 😂. Would have liked to see this asap.
I’m thinking of putting off visiting Korea again until I’m conversational at least for one on one conversations. Unrealistic?
Ahh, it's Billy! I enjoyed this collab so much! 💕
So glad you liked it!! 🤍🤍
Thank you for the video :) I felt really comfortable watching you guys talk and I’m grateful for the honest advice!
I’m glad you enjoyed the video~!! 🥹🤍
Awesome video, Natalia!
Oh, and we met in the bathroom line at a club in hongdae on february and I just was looking for your channel today for some studying motivation :) don’t know if you remember (probably not) but sorry for screaming “NATALIA!” at your face hahahah
keep up the good work! 💥
AHAHAHAHAHAHAQHHQ I REMEMBER!! It was you and a friend, right?? 🤣🤣 That was the night my friends and I ended up at a club after meeting for “casual drinks” 🤡🤡 famous last words 🤡
Off topic I’ve never been this early but y’all are my favorite creators!!!
Love this, I love you and Billy
Glad you liked it~!!

fascinating. very helpful. thank you
Glad it was helpful! 🤍
Loved the collab 💗
Glad you liked it~~
Sweet collab!
So…apparently with table manners my intermediate family does the same thing when dining/eating.
So…that’s cool and also confusing cause I’m always like,”oh we do that all the time…” 😮. thanks for the tips!
This is important stuff to know if you want to travel safely and respectfully, thank you!
I have to say, silent public transportation sounds like HEAVEN. I always put on headphones and stick my face in a book because it seems like everybody wants to chit-chat on American buses and trains! 🤫
nice, reading a book in the bus would be nice. I usually have to stand for 30mins in the bus cause it's so full in the morning🤢 And kids don't put down their school bags from their backs. Life in Austria😂
OMG! my two favs in one video 🥹💜

I loved seeing you together!!
Long time coming hahaha
Awesome collab, very interesting. I've seen his channel and have been trying to relearn the language by watching his videos. I used to be fluent when I was a kid but didn't keep up with it living in the States.
are you ethnically Korean? Do Korean migrants in the US know Korean? I'm really curios. Greetings from Austria!
@@NoctLightCloud My ethnicity is Korean and I was adopted along with my biological sister. Our American parents didn’t want to see us be separated so we were adopted together.
@@AD7Films That's adorable that you guys got to stay together!🥹💕 I am thinking how sad it is that US migrants forget their native languages, though (in your case, it's 100% understandable!). Here in Europe, many people who are migrants still speak their mother tongue, even 2~3 generations later. Many people can speak multiple languages. I hope some trend like that returns to the US one day. And I'm glad that Korean is picking up in popularity. (I had learned Japanese and Korean since 2009, way before it was cool to learn it😆) It would be cool to see the same trend arising for languages German, Danish, Dutch, Russian etc😊🤗
"they wont approach you"
without a kid, i was only approached when we looked lost or confused lol
with a kid, i was constantly approached. one guy even stopped his car and got out to talk to us
On the subways, 아저씨 tried to make her sit in the old people seats or the pregnancy seat and hold her hand and stuff.
so if you have a foreign kid, get in the back of the very last car. that was the best place for us haha
i felt so bad for her and worry about if shell want to go back. she did better in 강릉 since we took a taxi everywhere (but thats also where the guy got out of his car to talk to us.)
i assumed theyd stare and older people might want to talk to her. but i wasnt prepared for all of that...
the kids reacted exactly as i expected. they were SO excited to see her but too shy to speak to her lol it was sooo cute.
Wow! This was so informative! I really wanna go to Korea someday.
Also about learning Korean or any language, It's not related exactly, I get what you mean! I actually got a job as a Korean-Eng translator in my country, and I always feel I am lacking. And yea I have improved from before but there's always something I don't know. Suddenly they'll use a word I've never heard of and am like 잌 Panic Mode! So like yea heheh :P
Haha my every day 🥴🥴
PS You are two of my favourite people ever, so great that you collaborated :)
I was in Korea last week and saw you in the train station! Wanted to say hi but you seemed in a rush haha 😅
for the meal and water thing i think it's basic table manner, im french and i do this since little, my family does too
I hope I go to South Korea soon this year, I just started taking some korean classes but im not stressing out if I need to learn a lot, I got my papago translator XD Ill rely on that
0:05 Aaaah Go Billy!! Love his content 🥰
5:32 I feel like Korea is really safe! But like everywhere you need to be aware that ppl can be not nice too ☺️
9:59 This is also called Respect, in western countries ppl can be so louuuuud in the train or bus 🤣
13:11 Omg that’s so funny! I didn’t know abt the fact that Korean ppl to doesn’t like to eat first or alone when then multiple ppl 😂
Wow I loved this collab and it was really useful I learned new things, thanks to you too guys ☺️
I am from Germany and the loudest in busses or on trains are Arabs
와 gobilly과 영상을 함께 만들었어요???

그리고 Gobilly가 올린 영상을 봤는데 배가 아프지 않아요?
Lotion 같은 약을 먹어서 아프지 않았어요!!
ive been learning for 3 years by myself and this year i am currently taking a class every sat at a korea chuch and it is rly helpfull would this be good if i contuie especiall if i want to go to korea?
2:30 that lady earthing behind you guys made happy.😊
omggg the crossoverrrr haha
November...Natalia I cant with you
ahahahhahaha bruuuuh matching UA-cam schedules is hard 😂😂😂😂😂
The public transportation behavior, the waiting for everyone to have their food and giving out water for everyone is pretty similar in Switzerland
In Deutschland auch. Aber die vergleichen das halt mit Amerika wo niemand Manieren hat 😅
As a Korean the not eating first culture stemmed from a cultural practice where elderly or more respected people eat first.
Billy will forever crack me up with his Midwest farmer boy attire ahahaha
Well in aussie we also, at least in my family and group of friends we would always serve drinks to everyone first and same with cutlery etc it's just common courtesy I guess
That’s good to know~!!
As a Korean who lives abroad, i remember first time when I saw someone at the table serving for everyone I thought it was really nice of the person but at the same time kind of inefficient lol hahah great video! 재밌어요!
When I first went to Korea, I didn't live in the dorms so I couldn't make a lot of foreigner friends. Most of my friends in Korea were native Koreans, but also they were usually fluent in English so it kind of backfired because I'd be too anxious or impatient to use korean lol. BUT I did speak tons of Korean when I was abroad and my level JUMPED a lot. Honestly though I was mostly by myself, which I didn't mind usually but it also made me too shy to do group activities...
are you still residing in Korea? I'll be coming to teach here next month! I hope I will learn some Korean. =)
the thing about getting things or buying things for others is nice and i respect it but honestly i’d be sort of annoyed if someone continuously tried to give me water or a soda just because they want one 😭😭 i mean i’ve had this happen a lot before normally with older people in my family but i’ve always kind of hated being offered things i don’t want haha i really respect the idea behind it though
Hi I'm Korean if you have any questions about living in korea
please feel free to ask
I live in France and the thing with the water is the same :)
I just wonder how tourist s think they can behave differently in Korea than they do in their own countries. There are good and bad people everywhere. There are good and bad experiences everywhere. Even in the USA or South Africa you will find foreigners religious cults, individualistic people, safe areas, beautiful areas varied cultural experience etc. Korea is not an exception
my two worlds colliding 😮
The weird thing about the US is that when me or my sister like hand over plates and utensils to everyone in our group who are getting food with us before taking our own, they are all always so shocked and like what are they doing but then they are really grateful. Also we've never been to Asia before, it's just that our parents are so we just naturally do things that aren't normal here but are in Asia...
Omg I did not see this collab coming!
Is that a good thing 🤔🤔🤔 or a bad thing?? Lolol I kid I kid
Ohh why is the thumbnail not with Billy!! I didn't know when i clicked and i love his channel
We forgot to take a thumbnail picture back when we were filming and all the stills made us look weird 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 I would have preferred to have him in the thumbnail too!! I promise!!!
@@NataliaGarza haha aww well it made it more of a surprise 😘
He, funny enough, the time went to korea for a month, on the 3rd day, someone stole my luggage 😅, I only had my passport and wallet with me cause that's a golden rule whenever u travel. The worst part, is that I'm from Mexico, where is more common that ur stuff gets stolen and I have never been robbed there XD.
First mistake is what I've been in right now since 2 month and I don't know how to get out of it. Also IT SO HARD to meet Koreans, even though I speak Korean. So I just stick with my friends from my home country but I know this is a huge mistake... And actually no one from my class at the university (I'm taking Korean intensive course) has Korean friends, even though some of them been living in Korea for like 2/3 years. It's incredibly hard to meet Koreans when you are a foreigner...
I had an easy time meeting Koreans. My language level was ok and I don't want to boast but it helps A LOT when you look and dress well. All boys were simping over me😅 Some were 7yrs younger than me😂 Once we were out with our English club group of 30 (out of which only 5 foreigners) and 3 guys bought me icecream at the same time😂 I gave the icecream to my foreigner friends, breaking the Korean guys' hearts😆 (I'm not really into dating, just studied there and have enjoyed the culture, music, and tv for years, even before Gangnam Style blew up)
don't have that mindset :( if you're in uni, join clubs like Natalia, and you can find friends on apps too!!
i always buy everyone in the table something because i feel bad for them but now i realized it pays off because its a korean custom😭
I cringe every time I’m in the same subway carriage as loud people, and many times it’s foreigners.
Me too 🫠🫠 I feel like I’m being judged along with them 😭😭
thank you so much!! sending love. GOD LOVES YOU. JESUS LOVES YOU. MAY GOD BLESS YOU ALL. . 💗💗💗
Hi, I’m just curious if someone can help me understand the video a bit better. I’m about half way through. I’m American learning Korean. I’m older, but I guess I get mistaken for many ages. So I’m listening to it all. You start talking about meeting foreigners strangers so easily and being in friend groups. Be careful of the language level. Question 1: How do you meet those people? Question 2 Are you saying these friend groups happen for everyone, or just for people who usually form friend groups due to their social skills?
I ask because the second situation where a Korean person asks you to church sounds like the same situation. Is there something amiss with Korean churches? Do they have fellowship and activities with the churchgoers like we do in the US, or is there something problematic with their churches like cults require all your time, instead of having a service once a week?
I agree with the trust part. However, I did meet a lot of 65+ Koreans, both men and women, while hiking who spoke English and were interested why I was in Korea. I'm not the typical 20 something English teacher ( a bit older ) They just wanted to be my host for that short time. I did meet a pair in Hongdae who asked where to buy something...that is who you avoid or ignore. Why is a Korean asking a foreigner where to buy something? XD
사이비 the cult guys and
잡상인 the weird venders
are everywhere and they bother koreans too just ignore them
it was members of a sect, probably. I kid you not. Google their tricks.😅
@@NoctLightCloud no. I hiked with the ahjussi or ahjuma and never saw them again. The cults come in pairs in tourist areas and ask you to join them for a traditional tea ceremony. The men I met spoke English because they were business men and traveled to the US often. They were curious why I was in Korea. Just friendly folks nothing more nothing less.
@@mizelle4096I think thet meant the Hongdae pair
here's another one. Don't be walking around the street drinking soju from a bottle like you are on some tropical island or something. lol
Facts~ lol While legal, you would get hella stared at for that haha
Isn’t the waiting for everyone to have their meal to start eating when you go to a restaurant like the norm everywhere ?? (non Korean here) This is like basic good manners and not exclusive on Koreans I may say
No you don’t have to do this in Japan.
It is in Ireland. And older people or the main guest will eat first. But you can say to people to start if the food takes ages. Even then you can ask if you want to try some of it.
You can also make friends with foreigners that don't speak your native language.
Am I the only one that wants to see Billy without the hat and flannel shirt at least once?
am i the only one who’s american and has ALWAYS been told to wait until everyone has their plate before you eat..?
I dont feel like they have a collective mindset when getting on an elevator! I've noticed a lot koreans dont wait for people to get off the elevator before trying to get on.😅
Oofff I know exactly what you’re talking about~ There are times where the collective mindset is very obvious and strong and others where you would think they are very individualistic 🫠🫠 I want to talk about those instances in a video but I need to come up with a good way to explain it for those who have never been here first haha
i learned more about american culture more than anything from this video lmaooo
