Wouldn't it be nice if Solzhenitsyn's books were required reading in high schools and colleges, then young people would know WHY communism is bad, instead of being enamored of it. He is the greatest man Russia ever produced. He lived through the hell of communism, like millions of others, but managed to document it for the world to see. For that we will be truly grateful. Rest in peace, sir.

An amazing and wise soul, an amazing man. He picked up his cross bore it and followed in the spirit of Christ's message; leaving humanity a great example of Christian conduct and the hope to survive this world. As the globalists show more of their cruelty more people will realize what a wonderful man Solzhenitsyn was and his spirit leaves on his his writing as an example to us us.

just read "the gulag archipelago", a prophetic warning to those wise enough to heed it! and who better to write of it than one who lived it! may God bless and keep this extraordinary man.

I love the idea of putting Solzhenitsyn in place of Lenin. He is one of the true greats, and a personal hero since I read his first book nearly 40 years ago.

@sac78008 I feel that Mr. Solzhenitsyn asked a harsh question on corruption and the dark side of humanity rather than simply picking up a side of Socialism and Capitalism. That's why I respect him.

A genuine hero! "The Cancer Ward" should be required reading for anyone who thinks socialized medicine is the solution to healthcare costs in the USA.

I notice that upon downloading 200 years together that about several chapters have been left out due to various and asundry reasons. But I'm reading it on my iBooks app. I did read the oak and calf back in 1980. I have read a little of gulag archipelago. Don't know if it was volume 1,2,etc.

It seems like he didn't have a problem with socialism itself, but rather the faithlessness of the people, just as he criticized America for its faithlessness. In Cancer Ward he advocated a kind of "moral socialism". Perhaps that would be just as good as a "moral capitalism".

I can understand why you said it; Solzhenisyn is one of the bravest souls in the 20th century. However, his book is too harsh for high school students; even for college students.
Anyway, I respected him. отдых в мире

Russia has to punish Georgia for its deliberate targeting of civilians and hang Saakashvili as a war criminal. AIS would APPROVE. Don't forget that he and Mr Putin were friends. They saw eye to eye on Russia.

I hope that there are people in Russia who will heed his warnings as to what Russia should be. Vladimir is obviously NOT a big fan. Russia OUT OF GEORGIA!!!
