Very fair fear. EU should be strategically plan to be independent and build abilities to defend itself in case of war. At the same time build its relations with Russia independent of US policies of antagonism. From what I see, it’s US policies that Russia detests. It makes sense for Russia and EU to be friendly and normalize relationship and probably resume mutually beneficial trade.
Germany/Europe is yet to learn the lesson that Russia is a juggernaut in terms of her military, technology prowess and natural resources, and that's why they were beaten by Russia in all history, or Europe saved by Russia, similarly. The only thing more threatening to the US's hegemony is an independent and united Europe. The Hans just dilute their hegemony of the world.
