South Sister is Oregon's 3rd highest peak at 10358 feet in the Central Cascades. The climber's route starts from Devil's Lake Trail Head, right outside the town of Bend. The route is 11 miles round trip with over 5000 feet of climbing. I summited this peak in late June of 2022, following an unusually cold and wet spring which left a staggering snowpack late into the summer. This made for a great opportunity to break the climb up into two days, camping near Moraine Lake--and for a fast and fun ski from the summit all the way back down to the car. Great video. Looks like a great day in the outdoors with some nice turns and good weather!
It was really a joy, looking forward to hitting it again this spring!
Great to see you’re still doing cool stuff. Hope your transition to Oregon has been smooth.
Delightful!
How deep is the snow there right now?
Couldn’t tell you the stats, but it was basically full spring snowpack above 6500 feet. Check out NOAA, USFS, or Snotel data for coverage maps.
A what time of year is this?
This was early July after a particularly cold and wet Spring
