- How can you turn your dog's mess into a useful garden product?
As a nation of dog-lovers, one of the things we need to be aware of is that the unavoidable by-product of popular dog-ownership is a large quantity of dog waste. In the UK, at present, about 1,000 tonnes of dog waste is produced per day so the question is, what can we do about it?
In the wild, animal waste is dealt with in a natural way by worms so it seems logical to suggest that worms may be a good way to deal with dog waste too. A number of companies in the UK make dog wormeries for that very purpose.
In this video, Jill Diamond explains how the wormery works to produce a natural product that we can use as a garden fertiliser and plant feeder.
If you want a wormery for your garden, just search for 'dog poo wormery' to find a company local to you!

Great idea! One question-since we deworm our dogs, wouldn’t this affect the worms? Thank you 💚
ONLY Ivermectin should be used for worming animals and humans. It breaks down in faeces naturally

We medicate our dog for heart worm as a preventative. I wonder if this would be bad for these compost worms?
most of what i've seen says no, they are a different kind of worm.
Fascinating
Do you know if this product is being sold in the United States?
There are several videos online in making them out of drums and trash bins. 32 gallon bin $15, drill holes (cost of drill), pet waste decomposter $15, soil $7 or coir $10+. Worms naturally worm their way into bin through holes at bottom of bin. You can also acquire starter worms...

Is this system available in Germany?
Great video. I like the whole idea. I'm about to have a small dog and I have a small balcony in a block of flats. Have you any suggestions for smaller spaces? I can gift the compost to friends who have gardens

Everything you need to know except where to buy it. Sigh.

'without worm castings nothing will grow' :) LOL such little understanding of the diversity of soil nutrition
Biodegradable bags are a sales gimmick, break down slowly and are totally unnecessary. Bagged poop creates heat and thus more gas/carbon emitted. Use a scoop or newspaper if anything. It adds carbon to help composting and u won'thave to feel up your dogs waste. Also, worms are not required for plants to exist. This process doesn't kill off dangerous pathogens like regular composting which gets hot enough to destroy them. It may not be smart to spread the unknown pathogens throughout your back yard. A diy doggie septic system is better and much simpler.
