  • So we took delivery of our new BMW R1300GS in November but due to the nature of our business the bike has been in bits for research and development reasons. Finally the day has come where I can take it out on it's first ride. Pete English from @english_motorcycle_adventures / english_motorcycle_adv... kindly offered to take the lead in a day riding around the North York Moors. Thanks Pete. Great day.

    I'm booked on the BMW 2 day off road course in June. Can't wait.
    But before that I have a 1 day mick extance enduro day booked in May. Not been properly off road yet on my 1250 gsa but so looking forward to it.
    Looked awsome your day with Pete english. Well done for staying upright. 😅

    All on roads from what it looks, although some unimproved. Maybe there was areas not filmed. The bike is way more capable than this, but you probably know that. Don’t mean to insult anyone, just want your viewers to know the bike eat those roads for breakfast

    I got R1300GS Trophy version with the sport suspension. It feels as good as my Touratech Evo suspension on my 2022 R1250GSA. There is a 4 mile dirt road that I ride all the time. I am faster on the 1300. It has a lot better feel in the front than the 1250. The front and rear of the bike seem to be more in sink. Plus it is easier to throw around than the GS Adventure. I do miss the fuel range of the GSA.

    Looks to be a proper offroad break-in, Steve... well done, and thanks for bringing us along. (Now if you can just find a mic for the camera... 😆 I know you will.) The countryside looks wonderful, and you handled the mud quite well. Unless you edited out your inadvertent getoff's.
    Yeah, you will truly enjoy your BMW Rider class, they have top notch training, and you can never know too much or be too good a rider, whether on the trails or on the tarmac. Build your strength, as there will be some picking up of the bikes! Have fun!

      Okay well that answers that question. Good luck and hope he recovers, and that he continue riding.
      I would suggest some training, I know in my case I can always learn more and will never give myself out as an expert, but training helped me to learn how to pick a bike up and step away from the bike where possible. I am not criticising anyone for their riding ability, I am just saying it helped me. And even after several courses I stil fell the other day and smacked my engine against a railway sleeper.

    So a lot of people say they wouldn't take their R1300 GS off road. I am looking for a big Adventure bike for about 70% offroad and long distance touring, should I just stick with the tried and true R1250 GSA?

    • @ABIKETHING
      @ABIKETHING  3 місяці тому +1

      If it was 70% off-road I’d want the 1250GS or the 1300GS. If it was 30% off road then I’d be inclined to choose the gsa but that’s me with very long legs. Gsa is fine off road but for whatever reason the 1250GS would be my preferred bike if it was 70% off road

  • @jimthompson717

    As a long term GS owner, 4 so far, the 1300 seems to have departed from what I most like about the GS; big, in your face presence, slightly intimidating. Its seems to have got smaller. I wanted bigger. I'm 6'5" and they optimized for shorter riders?

    • @ABIKETHING
      @ABIKETHING  3 місяці тому

      I agree but I think we should wait for the GSA as I think this will suit yours and my requirements. This smaller 1300 chassis inspires more confidence for the trails for sure.

    Hello - really good job.
    When I was watching your report, I heard knocking noises while driving off road - are these sounds caused by the drive shaft? My GS1300 has exactly the same thing. In the previous GS1250, such sounds occurred very rarely.
    Currently, these sounds irritate me very much when driving off road - do you think there is a solution?
    Kind regards

      It’s not off. That’s the enduro Rallye screen that comes with the bike. However if I had a larger screen I’d have taken it off anyway. Big windscreens are only good for commuting or motorway riding. Dangerous for riding trails as they can cause injury (clothes lining)
