  • FKMD Sherpa FX610. Released in 2020, the FX-610 from Fox Knives-FKMD is a 5" field knife that can take a beating, in K110, that's basically D2 tool steel. To help with resisting corrosion (D2 being a "semi stainless steel) they have applied Idroglider PTFE to the surface. Comes with matching black full leather scabbard, sporting both traditional and horizontal carry options.
    Knife HRC stated at 59-61
Familiar grip like in the FX 133, FX 136 etc as this grip just works, wet or dry. But here we see a 5mm slab of D2 and not 6mm as in their N690 outdoor knife range. This knife features a dual ground blade in the shape of a drop point. Closer to the hilt we see a sort of "scandi" type geometry and towards the tip the blade geometry is more of a full flat, to high sabre grind, both geometries to a beveled edge. A big spine swedge keeps the weight down.
D2, no problems for outdoor work, the knife is comfortable to use around camp, prepping food and fire, sturdy enough to chop small branches in the event of no saw. I cut seasoned birch so I have no doubts about it cutting green wood even easier. The gimping is good and like other models can be used to effectively strike a fire steel if needed.
As far as keeping an edge, I am using ceramic tubes and it was easy to hone the edge to razor sharpness. (not that it didn't come deadly sharp from FOX).
