- Figma is completely changing how you can view, edit, and organise your drafts. Unlimited drafts are going away and will be limited to teams inside Figma only. I'm breaking down these Figma draft updates and what this change really means for its users.

What a great news for competition. Seems like Figma forgot (or doesn't care) about what made them the go-top solution for UI in the first place.
Who is their competition? Sketch?

@@giljuwu9728 XD was killed. Framer and Webflow are not design tools. Sketch is dead and burried. PenPot is the only competition, and luckily it's FOSS
They started messing up when they moved all code snippets to paid only plans.

True! It's sad that Dev mode is essentially paid now.
That's the type of things we expected would happen under Adobe. Instead, Adobe didn't bought them, gave them a whole billions of dollars and now this ? Either I never understood Figma's values as a company or it doesn't make sense.
I believe it was inevitable! It's the same thing with other software was well. I get why they made this change, but it surely a huge jump

The goal of every SAAS is to first get you in with lots of great features and affordable pricing. Next comes the slow but ever increase of costs as users are locked in or require too much effort or training to move to something else.
This goes for everything that is SAAS from Webflow to Vercel.
Always try to avoid being locked into any SAAS where possible.
True true! That is why most smart designers will tell you not to be dependent on a software.
How am I going to hide my portfolio file from my team?
They will luckily be Private to you unless you share them
I would pay a premium membership BUT NOT FOR ANY FILE THAT I use, it doenst make any sense

Don't need to be dependent on any tool what matters is you skill set which you can showcase on any tool of you choice

@@PunitChawla 100%. sad that we are constantly locked on team collaboration "features" and market adoption. if not, affinity photo/designer would already be the go to app for bitmap manipulation with non-subscription model. I sincerely hope Penpot 2.0 can change the game with the open-source initiative and universal file formats like svg.

Ho agrees that Figma needs a class action suit like Adobe ? this convoluted pricings systems need to get fine big time. Seats, teams, viewers, Full etc... and all that crap needs to go ! They make it harder to know what the client sees and if it see it at all, you have a free project or not, you need to guess, you pay for the product and as soon as someone needs to see/edit, suddenly are extra charges, you are kidding me ?! an Ui/UX app has intentionally 0 UX when the pricing sections it's involved, someone needs to go to jail for that ! all the marketing team needs to GO !
Instead of making new features and making new features paid, they are making already exiting features to a paid plan
So now drafts can only be created in teams right? So do I need to purchase plans to create more than 3 drafts? If I add a member to the team can he/she view the entire files in the team or only the ones that shared with them? What might be some other downsides of purchasing a team plan
Drafts are unlimited, but to share and collaborate and for access to other full features you will have a limit of 3. Some designers recently discovered that they were not able to add collaborators, Hopefully it's just a bug
If Penpot get their component system to support states/variants, they’ll be in a great place to take Figma's lunch.
What now can I use instead of Figma?
Thankfully not everything has changed, you can continue using your Drafts after shifting them

Is it just me or did Figma basiclly lose all the value that made ALL OF US switch to it a couple of years ago?
Luckily a lot of things stay the same. Hopefully they keep drafts working and not put them behind a paywall soon
@@PunitChawla yeah, I jumped the gun a bit on my previous comment. I thought that we're losing private drafts as team members might be able to see all team drafts, making us buy separate seats for personal files.
Why are people mad that a good product is closing a hack to make it not profitable?
And TBH, it's only gonna cost $12 p/m - if you can't afford this, you are in the wrong business.
You talk like there aren't people from other countries or outright beginners and students.

@@debanjanbose9707 not really. I just tried it and there are things pretty much important at least to me. I'll keep an eye on it, but the figma is went far ahead of others.

With increasing demand, money is to be made, understandable, but a simple pricing model would've been better. Can create / cant share / gotta move - sounds like they took some intern's idea seriously.
Hey! Isn't this an old update? I mean, you could have as many drafts as you want but to share it with other people you would need to shigt it to another category (I don't remember what its called) and in the free plan, you get only 3 seats for this category. Is this different?
Time just keep making new accounts when the draft is full and you don't want to delete them

Bro, I am facing problems in the stared files i.e files are missing
I am rapidly losing what faith I had left in Figma. This is some silly stuff. Who is the Figma team listening to? This is a solution without a problem. Feels like more $$$-milking shenanigans.

So let’s say, if I’m on free plan, can I still have unlimited drafts in a team? But I’ll be the only one to edit the files and I can’t share files with others?
According to their official website, yes! You can share up to 3 files in a starter plan, rest the drafts section is private to you only. Also, to be able to share your drafts you will have to be added as an editor on a paid team.

Student plans are free! Type in Figma for education and you will get it :)
