Tēnā koe e hoa, apologies for the late response to your comment. That's so beautiful to hear!!! And this is why we do what we do, to be able to help our whānau whanui in one way or another. I appreciate you taking the time to share your journey.
Keep practicing e hoa! We can only get better each and every day! 🍃

I have read a lot of old documents (particularly James Cowan) as well as interviews with toa & tohunga from back in the day & what they describe is often very different to what we see today. They describe warriors that have incredible footwork with minimal dexterity. While the lower is dainty & complex the taiaha is wielded more like a claymore (or baseball bat) in which movements were mostly about constant parrying by twisting ones arms forward before swinging it using hip thrust & a raised heel to deliver maximum impact. I love that we now are seeing tane like this one doing the more old school movements.

Will learn this, might try and find a way to incorporate a taiaha or a patu because I personally don't like to disarm myself during Mau Rakau training. Also might try and find a way to make them flow more once I learn it properly.
I used a lot of the NZQA vids to help guide me in my taiaha journey back in the day as well, a shame their a no more modern versions however.
    Keep it up bro.

Mōrena e hoa, ngā mihi for taking the time to comment and watch this video.
Sounds awesome! That's what we love to hear, is our whānau adapting what they learn in these videos to themselves as the individual and tailoring to what suits you best. In the more advanced videos, we'll be incorporating koikoi, however, for now, it's back to the basics.
I just found these videos the other week! Such gems and a mean resource to learn from. Āe, that's what we hope to change with our channel. Providing some more modern versions for those who are interested in learning this art form, especially for our Rangatahi.
Mauri ora e hoa and ngā mihi for your awhi and tautoko! 👌🏾
