Edible Acres is a full service permaculture nursery located in the Finger Lakes area of NY state. We grow all layers of perennial food forest systems and provide super hardy, edible, useful, medicinal, easy to propagate, perennial plants for sale locally or for shipping around the country…

Happy growing!
make sure that the fan sucks air instead of pushing it through the pipe. Sucking air, on the far end, vs pushing it, will allow the air, which is a fluid, to self-organize (in a long vortex form) when moving through the pipe and in such way will use less energy, as naturally prevents (the law of least resistance) creation of any air (fluid) turbulence, which is, otherwise, always being created when a fluid is pushed vs begin pulled
Thanks for the lesson!
That is a great thought. I think I may try to explore *adding* a fan on the other end to facilitate this idea since the setup is already in place where it is and last year it worked pretty darn well for us. Adding a draw on the other side would address the concerns you mention, maybe it doesn't need to be as assertive since it would be more effective and a smaller panel and fan can be used... I'll look into it and thanks :)
@@edibleacresmaybe having the high tunnel positively pressured via putting that fan on pull would be worth trying? important to note: I am not a fluid dynamicist! (... my wife is tho, but she's busy or I'd ask her more about this)
I could be dead wrong, but I thought it was the turbulence which aided the heat transfer and ultimately the phase change. But I can see it using more power b
@@notastepizzaface You are generally correct. Turbulence is the way the fluid transfer energy from one part of the fluid to another. With sucking vs pushing the fluid still have turbulence but that dynamics is mostly towards the walls of the conduit ( please read about the boundary layers, which from this point of view, we are concerned, is expanded a lot). When the fluid organizes in a vortex the middle of the fluid is the coolest and the peripheries are the warmest. Look at the dynamics of a vortex tube and you will get more hints on the vortex thermodynamics.
Aggghhhhhhh!!!!!!! First Zelda appearance in a vid, yes? She’s so perfect! Great work, Sasha! ❤
Thanks my friend, yeah, she's been a very wonderful person to have in our life for sure :)
You guys are such beautiful Beings! Juan included! Thank you you for sharing!!
Thanks from all of us :)
Congratulations on the new addition,a real cutie.
Thank you so much 😀
Thank you for all the great work you are doing! Always a fountain of ideas and great vibes.
Thanks so much for the kind words!
Zelda is perfect!
You are too kind
Little Zelda is beautiful and has grown so much. She looks like she is thriving! I love seeing little peeks of her from time to time. Always happy to learn more greenhouse strategies from you all.
That DC fan should last quite a while. Use to use them on racecar brake ducting decades ago; they're pretty tough. If the blade pops off, glue it back on with some epoxy after drilling a relief hole on the nose cone.
Great to know, thanks!
Thanks for sharing!
Sasha is a super woman! I know how it is carrying a baby around!💕
I love this channel. Y'all are inspiring
Thanks so much
Always informative and inspiring 🙏❣️
Happy to share
I’ve been thinking about doing this in one of my tunnels for some time, this is great that you just got it done! I have really wanted to dig down on the sides of the tunnel and bury insulation so the whole ground becomes heat mass and doesn’t conduct heat away in winter. Apparently that can essentially turn you Mediterranean with no other heat. But I hade rigid foam…I wonder about hempcrete or some other form of insulation that could be buried. Also, heck yeah on chickweed! Highest mineral density green out there!
This is a very very simple way to get it started and something to consider. I can share notes with ya. Maybe rigid foam could be skipped and you just have a bit of a temp gradient from hot middle to cooler edges and work with that? Maybe a heat break could happen with dug out edges backfilled with coarse woodchips?!
This is exciting, thanks!
:)
I can't wait to see this play out. I'm very interested.
Nice concept hope it works well for you. Cheers
Fingers crossed
I like the greenhouse setup! I hope to build a sunken greenhouse in the next year or so...
I really hope that comes together for you!
Very interesting video. I find thermodynamics fascinating.
It's fun. I don't pretend I understand it but I can at least try to play with it a bit.
@@edibleacres I love your approach to finding things that work and sharing it on your channel. I like to experiment in my garden, but on a smaller scale. Keep it coming with the great content and thanks for the reply.

This is exactly what im doing with my greenhouse right now!!!
That's awesome! This is a great time of year to be exploring these concepts, and getting things up and running
Zelda is growing like a weed! This time next year she'll be helping pull weeds and plant seeds.
Fingers crossed that she really enjoys the life that we're establishing here and gets deeply involved
neat well done
thanks
You guys might want to take turns with that harness. I'll try to think of a covering you can also put on prior which will shield from anything dirty but also be comfortable in the weather; mesh usually works well
Thanks
@@edibleacres anytime brother
Wonderful video as always. Loved seeing all the folks in your circle. Is the perennial kale the same as tree collards? I wish I was more versed in the wild edibles. I know I could be using them but I'm just not confident enough yet to do so.
I don't think it is the same plant, but I'm also not quite sure...
We learn as we go. You can absolutely learn chickweed this spring and start indulging!
I would really love to hear how your version of the climate battery is working. I was considering doing it myself with a similar hoops house but I always thought it wouldn’t work effectively because greenhouses I’ve read that use this system have
1) insulation underground around the perimeter and below the soil to stop the heat being pulled into the ground.
2) are built with a fully insulated north side
3) don’t have a poly cover which I hear is not able to hold in Infrared Radiation.
Does it at least work for lowering noon temps if not also for warming at night? I’m at 8,000’ in Colorado and currently get 120F days temps down to 30’s at night.
How has it worked!!!?
🥰💚🙏✨
BABY!!!!!!
She is :)
@@edibleacres Thank you for sharing a short clip of her!!

As a fan of Charles Dowding, that green house is a disgusting mess, harboring pests, and not very productive. I hope others don’t think this is normal for a greenhouse. OK everybody tell me what a hole I am.
Different strokes, dude. Why bother commenting with only negativity?
@@sairuhtonin because he’s teaching garbage. Do you teach your kid garbage just because you don’t want to do negativity with him
You obviously don’t watch this channel very much bc they are extremely productive. You don’t have to be a control freak or have expensive set ups to have abundant, nutritious harvests…if you prefer to spend time and money making something look curated as opposed to spending that energy on developing intentional complex regenerative systems, to each their own. Diversity and soil health are key in IPM, which they showcase beautifully here. Charles Dowding is all about encouraging others and constantly states that you do not need to have a greenhouse like his to be successful.
@@AlexaPederson I Charles Dowding needs to have greenhouses. He has two of them so he can grow warmer crops that will not grow in Britain because it’s so cool there. I followed him because he’s growing to three crops on the same partial soil without weeds minimal pests, very productive to each his own. I choose a Charles Dowding because I was a market gardener up until last year, and it’s a very productive way to grow crops. What I saw in that greenhouse was a disaster and no I won’t watch him anymore……….while I was typing this my daughter came by and she’s what are you typing and I showed her the video I did not say a word her first comment was what a mess. Her second comment was who is this? Her third comment was snorting out her nose and laughing. I rest my case by the way she’s 23.
