- Tim goes nuts...well even more nuts as he introduces you to Tagua nuts. Seeds from the Ivory Palm these nuts look like ivory when turned and over time they darken to an antique ivory color. Challenging but fun these nuts can be turned into many interesting shapes. The nuts Tim used were found on Ebay but you can find them at other woodturning suppliers.
You can find instructional DVDs, Tim’s Tools and the Elbo Hollowing Tool on the Woodturning with Tim website: www.woodturningwithtim.com

Thank you so much. You also made this fun!
Talk about having steady hands! The black CA made this turn. AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL! SAFE TURNING, John
"Kintsugi (金継ぎ, "golden joinery"), also known as kinsukuroi (金繕い, "golden repair"), is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by mending the areas of breakage with lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum, a method similar to the maki-e technique. As a philosophy, it treats breakage and repair as part of the history of an object, rather than something to disguise." -Wikipedia.
Looks great!
Thank you for sharing that Tim, that is absolutely awesome. 🤘
Absolutely beautiful with the black star bond. Thanks Tim and Brian.
Incredible. Love it!
Very cool, very nice demo. Thanks for sharing, I look forward to all your videos.
Very cool pieces.
Really beautiful!!! Congrats!!!
That is truly beautiful piece.
That turning was simply nuts! 😁 Very nice!
Fantastic skill & demonstration - thanks Tim.
Absolutely stunning Tim 🥇🥇🥇
sooooo beautiful!!
Thanks Tim! Love your videos. Inspiring stuff!
Wow...love it!
Just bought a bunch of these from my local timber store they only charge £5.00 ($3.75) for 10 for medium average size ones and they are really interesting to turn. This video just gave me some great ideas so thank you!
I have to agree, DON"T try gluing them to a waste block or a jam chuck as these things are solid and really hard as well as being really unbalanced so they do have a tendency to come away. Follow the advice at the start of the video and start between two centres and create a small tenon to mount into a proper chuck to avoid them bouncing around your workshop or off your head!
Absolutely wonderful 💖
Awww Nutz! Very nice Tim. 👍👍🇺🇸
Tim thanks for the great video, very neat turning.
The black glue in it looks so gorgeous im glad its theree!!
that tagua nut with the dark glue stuff reminds me of lichtenberg fractal burning. Looks great!
Interesting material! The black glued cracks give it a marble effect look!
I can't wait to try this out
Beautiful form s Tim thanks for sharing
I'm gobsmacked!! That's all I can say. What a talent.
What an inspiration you are to me, thank you
That's amazing Tim.. Love that marble look. Will have to try and find some down here, down under... Love watching your videos. Keep em comin....cheers
Beautiful Tiny base . Good job my friend,💒👏🏻🤣
Omg. I was just looking at those in the store Wednesday!
Very cool.
great work.. thank you...
As my old General once said "NUTS". Brilliant turning.
Amazing.
thanks tim!
I like that diamond wheel you used for sharpening
I would love to see a tagua nut and the Carter sphere jig, I bet that would made a neat piece.
That is so cool 😎
That was one of your best Tim! Looked like a Japanese antique. I want to try that black glue on cracks to turn a flaw into a design.
Hi Tim,
This turning is amazing!Your videos are always so interesting and informative!
I wish Thompson Tools and Robust Lathes gave out free samples! LOL
Thanks for the video!
Tom
That's is amazing
Great work! The nuts are edible when they first hit the ground and harden over time.
You are one goofy guy, and you're awesome!
thanks Tim awesome stuff. I was wondering I notice they fade to a yellow. Is there anything you can coat them in to keep them shinning white?
Those would make amazing salt and pepper shakers
Good advice to never crush your nut...
That's freakin' awesome. Never heard of them and will probably not be able to get them here in Aus, unfortunately.
On the part at end if they are thin enough, you can light them up from the inside … so if you're really lucky you can turn one into a mini-lampshade as well as vase or bowl?
near the end when you were worried about voids, is the sanding relatively safe from the "explosion" problem?
Nise job. 🙃
Got to have some of those, you say Ebay? Is that the only place that you know of. Those are great!!
I bought a dozen of these things thinking I could hand carve them. Hell no! Lol these nuts are hard as a rock, a Dremel is necessary.
It's also called vegetable ivory.
The meat of the Tagua nut reminds me of Brazil nuts. Is it that soft as well? It feels like it's a little harder.
The tagua nut is harder than a woodpeckers lips. Its hard to carve with a knife , almost like ivory
@@brandysigmon9066 I see! Thank you! :)
2:01 forest grump reference
Wow, the black glue makes it look like marble.
For some reason I really want to use "Thompson Lathe Tools". Anyone else feel that way?
definitely , they look nice and top quality
I bet the red part of it was like the heart of the nut
I want someone to make me ivory tea cups that are as beautiful as these! I can try to find ways to send the metroxylon sagu fruit for you. Its Bigger with big hollow center. N round. Not sure if its good for this kind of carving. But its nice see if it’s possible so i can ask for a few cups? Eheheh!

Can we make them soft by boiling ?
Why do that ?? Theyre soft right when they fall from the tree and harden over time while being on the forest floor so maybe just find ones that have recently fallen if u live in an area where trees w tagua nuts are
Though i was the only one that thought these were 😎
I JUST SAW SOME JEWELRY MADE WITH THESE AND IT HAD A LOT OF BLACK RUNNING THROUGH THE ENTIRE PIECE KIND OF LIKE SPALTING
I really thought these were normal sized from the thumb nail.
realy beautyful, but this nut lets me wonder if someone did try to turn a coconut. i mean, even if its not realy round, you propably get e realy nice "skeletonized" bowl.

Try to count how many times Tim says "nut" through the duration of the video
2 to 6$ a piece ?! I pay 10$ a kilo...
