What's this layer of ozone? That's never been there before." I should not be laughing at this, but I am.
NASA recently declared that the ozone layer is growing back. It's one of few cases where environmentalism has actually done some good.
@@westlockTrue. Think of where we'd be if we didn't do something about it.
The fact that he says that is troubling. Along with the jungles on Earth and other stuff.
Love it that when they travel through time there is all types of clocks around, that's got to be how it works
Fry removed the sticker that said "Do not microwave" so it would be safe to microwave it, he isn't stupid, duh
well here is a fun fact: professor is not just Fry's nephew but also a grandson
He’s also his brothers grandpa his his dads dad
@@Daveblunts1fan His MOM's dad. His dad's dad was Yancy.
Add about half a dozen greats there. The Professor was born over eight hundred years after Fry fell into the tube
You aren't overthinking it. The creators of this show had a few long term storylines that would unfold over the course of the whole series outlined from the very beginning. You are getting to the point where some of these long stories have touched more than one episode you have seen so you are starting to see the connections.
This is one of my favorite episodes. Any episode involving a lot of Zoidberg and the Professor are great, as well as the the premise of this episode. It even won an Emmy!
And yes this is why in the Anthology episode he had to go to the future. It’s also why he wasn’t effected by the brains in The Day The Earth Stood Stupid, and continues in one of my favorite episodes The Why Of Fry. As well as the movie Into The Wild Green Yonder, which was the second ending of the show. Can’t wait for you to get to those!
same here
Couldn't wait for the video to actually come out I see
@@Phaeton635 why would I wait a week after I watched the video to leave my thoughts on it?
@@theBOSpaladin101 Just a low end joke about how its possible to view videos and make comments earlier than the date of release. I assume due to patreon and stuff.
@@Phaeton635 yeah I support Eric on Patreon. I think when you change an unlisted video to public, the upload date changes. This video was posted probably about 5 weeks ago, just unlisted.
This technically means Fry’s parents are also blood related from the start, specifically grandson and grandmother too. No wonder Fry’s mind is messed up. 2 generations of inbreeding.
Not the parents. The mother would still be unrelated.
@@infini_ryu9461 Fry has his mother’s blood in him, so if his dad is also his son, then his dad would also have DNA related to his future wife he got from Fry. Ergo his wife is also his biological grandmother.
@@ghostspider2056 Oh yeah, shit. Lol.
@@ghostspider2056 ohhhhh nooo. I never realized that. 😖
if you look at the Futurama wiki, Fry's brother Yancy is listed as his brother and grandson, his father is listed as father and son, it's pretty funny
Good News Everyone! It's time to learn the Grandfather Paradox
Also called the bootstrap paradox
There is actually a song called "I'm My Own Grandpa" .
The picture of Fry is one step closer to being complete
This episode is very important for fry. You already know sort of why but yes this does come in to play more throughout the series.
This is the second part of what l call “the fry trilogy”, which started with “the day the earth stood stupid” and ends with “the why of fry”. The latter episode is honestly one of my favourite episodes of Futurama! (Also, I recommend watching “the sting” right after why of fry, it’s like a nice companion episode!)
The Frilogy if you will
Fry's grandfather is a parody of Gomer Pyle.
Shazam, shazam, shazam!
It's like the Terminator where the Original John Conner's father was unknown but the events of Terminator, Conner sent Kyle back in time which then resulted with Kyle becoming his father.
There's actually a novelty song called I am my own grandpa by ray Stevens
Trivia note: This is considered 1 of the best episodes of Futurama from its initial run, so much so that it won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Animated Program for Programming Less Than 1 Hour in 2002.
Mildred and "Inus" is most definitely Frys mother parents. His dad said that his father was also named Yantse (or however it spelled).
And hair color don't forget that buddy
Fry’s dad said his grandfather and those before his grandfather were named Yancy. Also fry yelled at Enos’s crotch “everything’s gonna be alright dad”
You will know later, I will not spoil you, but this episode is a fundamental pillar in the entire Futurama series
Fry did the nasty in the pasty
Verily
This is one of my absolute favorite episodes!
The Futurama writers are BRILLIANT. Very rarely will you be overthinking things bc they likely wanted you to think about this stuff. No spoilers, but it'll all make sense soon.
A causal loop also known as a bootstrap paradox, information loop, ontological paradox, grandfather paradox and a predestination paradox is a theoretical proposition, wherein by means of either retrocausality or time travel, an event is among the causes of another event, which is in turn among the causes of the first-mentioned event.
finaly a documentary of what realy happend.
This episode has my favourite line in the entire series, from Fry. "I've never seen a supernova blow up, but if it's anything like my old Chevy Nova it'll light up the sky."
I'll have a croque monsieur, the paella, two mutton pills and a stein of mead.
"Two Chili Dogs, coming up!"
The story just keeps getting better! Wish I could sit down with you for a day & binge futurama lol
I think fry being his own grandfather is why he’s not effected by the floating brains.
Yes nibbler said that
"Don't cut that, I need it to speak!"
*starts cutting faster*
@Eric Reacts yes that's why Fry doesn't have the delta wave in his brain 🧠
It's a temporal time loop 🔄 exists so that he can travel to the future to save the universe an to travel back in time to make sure that he existence to do what he will do what he has always done, always did, and always will do.
I sometimes wonder if this ep references the series Crime Story. The mob bosses on the run in Vegas make a less than fortunate choice by making the same decision Fry did in deciding what constitutes a 'safe house'. Big Badda boom
love this episode, thank you so much for reacting to it!
It also proves that Fry's thick headedness was not a result of being his own grandpa. Enis was already pretty idiotic.
And gets vaporized thinking God saw what he was doing with the calendar!
Fry being his own grandfather is a play on the Back to Future plot.
Marty's mom is one of the hottest 80s chick I ever seen not only that she was 22 I think 😍
Haha, love that "good news" intro 😄
Kinda crazy how Fry is still wiser than Enos!
I've been waiting for your reaction to Fry sleeping with grandma. :) You can find the song "I'm my own Grandpa" on UA-cam
Fry is his own Grandfather, which means his dad is his son and his brother is his grandson.
And he is his grandson
I think it’s his mother that’s his granddaughter.
Oh gees here we go... the truth behinds Fry's special brain
Either Mildred lied or she genuinely confused Fry for Enus since they’re alike and she was already acting like an old lady.
In 1947 it would be more acceptable to get pregnant with a fiancé, than with someone else so she probably lied.
Or she did do it with Enus several times despite his closet sexuality and it seemed more likely that he was the father rather than a similar looking guy she only did it with once. She is rather promiscuous so it wouldn’t be that far fetched to assume she got frisky with Enus many times and he went with it to conform.
Futurama is the only sitcom that'll make you think afterward
True.
Finally, a cultured person reacting to this underrated show 🥺 I didn't remember about his fake grandfather 😳
Yes, that's the cause of the brain wave deficiency.
I never thought about it until you mentioned it at the end but...before I continue SPOILERS AHEAD: there are other episodes and even a full movie where Bender travels back in time continuously and has to wait thousands of years just in idleness and no booze which fuels him. maybe the writers forgot that was a thing during these times.
My absolute favorite episode, best Ziodberg moments of all time
for me the best moments of zoidberg was when he finally found true love and when he sang in harmony with himself!
YES!!! I’M NOT THE ONLY ONE TO THINK OF ROBO WHEN I WATCH THIS EPISODE!!! THANK YOU, ERIC!!!
I was excited for this one! Oft cited as one of the best episodes of the series
You talked over one of the best jokes.
I never bothered checking for myself, but apparently the writers of the episode did and their answer is 'yes' with some provisos which presumably relate to high-variability parts of the genome.
As for Bender, I don't necessarily think he would necessarily corrode much - assuming the hole kept most of the air and water out, of course. As for fuel his body might use up most of his power and he may also have an energy saving mode of some kind.
Lesson of the day just Don't mess with time
Especially time travel incest.
unless you are supposed to
@Eric Reacts the creator's of the show originally wanted to do episodes that focus on every Sci-fi trope out there but they really didn't want to do time travel for 2 reasons.
1.) It's been done so many times by other franchises that it felt like a cliche.
2.) Because whenever time travel is added to a story the writers have to keep more track of the franchise continuity moving forward.
This will not be the last time time travel will play apart in the show.
Leila really doesn't cook enough roasts.
As is typical of the absurdly over-educated writers room of this show, they decided to do something both snarky and scientific. In this case: Taking the 'Grandfather Paradox' literally.
This episode here actually gets a reference on another show called xiaolin showdown
The president is choking on my gallbladder, what an honor!
8:09 This'll probably be me in 20 years
I don’t know if this is true, but I think Eunice was supposed to be Fry’s grandfather on his Mom’s side. The hair color would line up because they both have orange hair. Plus his name isn’t Yancy.
Great reaction!
Ok, there's something that bugs me, dialogue from the episode "lucky of the fryish" seems to imply that Enis is on Fry's father's side. However! His orange pointy hairy matches up with Fry's mother.
Recesissve Trait came back a generation after and his mother was just a redhead by accident.
@@kampfkeks6619 it's not just redhead. She even has the pointy bit at the top curve like Fry and Enis have.
Fry was always his own grandfather.
Don't worry, they go back to the idea of fry being his own grandfather in later episodes. They dont recon it, it's canon lol.
OH! it's this episode!
Don't look it up obviously for spoilers, but yeah the Fry family tree is massively complex
FRY'S BEST SCREAM EVER!!!!
It makes sense hypothetically. 75% of Fry's genome would originate normally with his birth. While there's a bootstrap paradox with the 25% he passes down to himself, the rest of his genome is completely normal. Remember, Fry didn't have to be genetically created a second time to become his own grandfather, eh just folded the timeline back on itself. It all sounds really complicated when you try t explain it but its really simple if you stop and think.
I thought Roswell was in the state of New Mexico, not Alabama!
How I belive time travel works, at least How I think It should work is, if someone time travels, they are always there, so under these stipulations, technecally, adult fry came first, because he truely was always there.
Fun fact: spray on clothes are a genuine thing.
suddenly The radiator woman from the radiator planet does not seem so Freaky now .
That is exactly the reason for the lack of a Delta brain wave.
When it comes to the actual nature of time travel, I'd say that.. SOME Time travel narratives can't work, because .. you kind of need a "path in" to the causality loop. IF Fry was his own grandpa because of this and it was the only way for things to happen then.. when did the time-travelling happen that STARTED the causality loop?. What DOES work is if the person he THOUGHT was his grandpa really WAS his grandpa (first time around).. So he could come to exist in the first place.. and then.. because time-travel he went back, killed his own grandpa, BUT avoided the paradox of him existing also creating the non-existance of himself by impregnating his grandmother. (With the same Y-chromosome he inherited from his grandfather).. after that the causality loop has been entered and the logic works without any inconsistencies or contradictions.
9:16 that is partially correct yes. Since if fry never went to the future, then he can't go to rosewell to become his own grandfather and ensure his existence
Have you seen the new trailer for Dragon Prince
And now you know why Fry is so stupid. Because he's his own grandfather.
The SAME devilled egg.
Someone that is his own grandfather has any excuse for anything stupid that he does in My opinion.
Welcome to the nasty in the pasty.
