Thanks for teaching this! All of a sudden I started wondering if the next generation will want to stitch. I hope so! We just cannot lose this amazing craft! 🥰🐢
@@JeriBelliniMy daughter did NOT want to learn. So I didn’t teach her. I’m hoping that someday, after she’s finished her PhD, she will take up stitching as a hobby. But I didn’t want to make a negative memory by forcing her. Here’s hoping!!!
Great tutorial! Today's Quote: "Kindness can be anything: Kindness can be anything-from watering a tree to feeding a stray animal."- Wendy Mass.Huge hugs. Namaste 🐞🐞🐞
I first did applique after I'd started piecing Dresden Plates and found out how I'd have to attach them to a block, lol. I haven't done it since, but there are some very pretty patterns out there and I am so very tempted. Thank you for the tutorial!
When I was teaching my grandchildren how to applique circles onto fabric I cut a circle out of a heavy weight piece of non iron vilene and a slightly bigger piece of applique material . I then gathered the material around the edge and placed the vilene circle inside carefully teasing the gathers until the circle lay flat and then appliqued it on to the background fabric. It made it easier for them. I love teaching them crafts.
This is great! I did find it very helpful. I’ve been curious about needle turn appliqué for a while, now I think I can try it out. Very nicely done and I thank you.
This was beautifully explained. Tried my hand on hand applique once and was very quickly very frustrated. But I believe enough time has passed to give it another go. I mean, I'm really good at handstitching down my binding. So straight applique already works 😅
Great video, thankyou Jeri. The zoomed in image was spot (or should I say dot 😁) on!! Please use again, for any future embroidery stiches you share!! Janine
I’ve started this wonderful relaxing little project thanks Jeri but I’ve also started to cut my seam allowance just like I would on a curve when making bags or clothes etc it’s a game changer imho. I can’t attach a photo here sadly but maybe you could add it into one of your Dot a Day videos
This is great, thanks! I have done applique, but not circles. I'm about to embark on a temperature quilt using 365 circles. I read one quilter who did free hand circles of different sizes or also "squircles." I need to decide if I want to intentionally look wonky or attempt beautiful circles like you're doing.
Hello Jeri, I want to tell you how very much I'm enjoying your dot videos on UA-cam.I've been in a slump for awhile, not doing any crafts. I stumbled on to you one day & became interested in your dot a day. I feel revived & energized to give them a try. I only have a smart phone,so I am unable to enlarge videos so much.I am unable to see when you apply the 3"square onto the 3 1/2 " square.Do you sew it on before you put the dot on,or do you sew the 3"sq on after the dot & the embroidery work is completed? Thank you so much,& let's dot our lives with joy every day•°•°•°
I'm not exactly sure what you mean... But I'll try to answer. The 3 inch square is the cardboard template. I use that to fold the edges of the 3 1/2 inch piece of cloth. So the edges are finished and basted in place, making a finished 3 inch square. Then I applique the dot onto that. Hope that makes sense. 💜 Then I embroider.
@@JeriBellini Oh, I misunderstood in the beginning. You only cut one piece of cloth 3 1/2 ",& turn under 1/4" each side. There isn't a second piece of cloth attached to that square! Am I understanding it right now? I'm sorry for misunderstanding. I'm so happy I have found your channel.Thank you🥀
Jeri - great video and thanks for the needle info! Quick question on the Mettler thread because I know they sell a large variety of styles and weights - which one are you using? I tried to read the spool but wasn’t able to.
No, I have found this to be the easiest way to do applique. You really have to do one stitch at a time, if you try to force the cloth under all at once it won't go well. 💜
Yes, I put 2 links they are just different sizes but both are very good for applique. And I reached out to the company to see if they would restock. 💜 I'm on it! LOL
I order through Etsy. Fil a Gant from France, 100% cotton. I believe it’s a 50 weight as opposed to a 30 weight that you find in fabric shops. Recently, I also found a new thread to me (I live in USA), called Boundless Pima thread. It’s also a 50 weight and it was quite inexpensive for me. It’s 100% cotton. 1200 yds on the spool and quite inexpensive.
Thanks for teaching this! All of a sudden I started wondering if the next generation will want to stitch. I hope so! We just cannot lose this amazing craft! 🥰🐢
I hope so too! And if we teach our children, which I have taught mine, we should be ok. 💜

Thank you. I have just finished my first dot. This video was very helpful.
I'm so glad! 💜💜💜
Love the ‘puffyness’ of the circle with applique, thanks Jeri!🍀💖
You could even stuff it if you wanted it really big! 💜
Really enjoyed this video! I’m going to try working with circles.
Wonderful! I hope you love them! 💜
Beautifully done! When I learned needle turn appliqué we used silk thread.
Silk is very nice! It glides right through the cloth! 💛 Thank you!
This is a great, to-the-point tutorial! Thanks so much, Jeri.
You are so welcome! 💜💜💜
Great tutorial. Beautiful cicle. Definitely going to get that circle template and needles. Thank you!

Thank you Geri ,this was very helpful.

Thank you Jeri- a very helpful tutorial. Loved the subtle colours of this piece too by the way 🧡xxx
You are so welcome, thanks for watching! 💜
Very helpful Jeri. Thank you 😊.
You are so welcome! 💜
Thanks Jeri. The end result is so satisfying.
I agree! I love appliqué! 💜💜💜
Thank you Jeri. I hadn’t thought of using a thin milliners needle. I think I will find it helpful. 💖💖💖
The thin needles are the way to go with applique, just glides right through the cloth! 💜 Try a short one to see if you like that better.
Thanks! Great ideas! Love that background linen piece❤
Thanks so much! 💛 💛 💛
Thanks Jeri, this is helpful! ❤
So glad! Easier to get to rather than looking through my videos to find it. 💜

I have only ever done prepared applique; but after seeing your method, I want to try it out. Thanks for a great video--hugs, Julierose🥰
Hey Julierose, I love your name, BTW. You can do it! 💜💜💜
I love this. Thanks for sharing.

I have always to do needle turn appliqué. This will something I will definitely include
Please do! I hope you find it helpful! 💜

Nice ! Thanks! It was helpful. Always grateful!
Grateful back at you! 💜
Thank you, Jeri! You made that look so easy. Blessings.

Just what I was looking for!

Thank you. My first circle was terrible but I will try again with these tips!
Practice practice! 💜

Hi JERI. This is a great video, for new bee's. Suggestion...put ur pin in from behind. Thread won't catch on the needle😘. Enjoy ur day!
YES! Smart suggestion! 💜💜💜 Thanks for watching!
leuk dankjewel

Alex Anderson talked about your circles on her video Monday! She is making them also
I know, I'm tickled to death! 💜

Ahhh…I have stitched my finger too! 😂
🤣 I do it all the time!!!! 💜
Me too! This is the first time that I ever knew that I'm not the only one.
I do not need another project, but you are making it really hard! lol. Guess I’m going to have to get a circle maker….
HA!!! Give it a try! 💜💜💜
Enjoyed your tutorial. Thank you! Question: Did you make a knot at the end of your stitching? It didn’t seem that you did.
No, I just run the thread under the seam, and a few backstitches. 💜
Think I will start this. Circle and hexagons seem to be the favourite shapes in textile art. ( via K3n ) Thank you.
I do love a good circle myself! LOL Have fun! Thanks for taking the time to comment! 💛

@@shirleysmith8079 Yes Shirley, you got it! One square of cloth with the dot sewn on that then embroidered.
@@JeriBellini Thank you Jeri,Now I can begin making dots. I'm sure enjoying watching you & the interesting things you do.❤️

Jeri - great video and thanks for the needle info! Quick question on the Mettler thread because I know they sell a large variety of styles and weights - which one are you using? I tried to read the spool but wasn’t able to.
You can use most any of them, I have some of the 100% cotton and also silk and cotton. 💛
@@JeriBellini thanks!!
Hi, Jeri, I started my dots, I have a question: Do you pull out the basting around each square after completing?
I pull it out after I stitch the squares together and only if it’s regular basting. I don’t pull out the invisible baste. 💜
I'm getting quite a collection of 'Dots'😊 would they be suitable to make intoo a quilt?
Yes, absolutley! A wall hanging would be nice too! 💜
Do you ever put little clips in the fabric to make the turning under easier?
No, I have found this to be the easiest way to do applique. You really have to do one stitch at a time, if you try to force the cloth under all at once it won't go well. 💜
Do you freehand the sewing line ??
No, I use the template, I showed it in the beginning of the video and there's a link in the description to get one.
Fyi, unfortunately, the needles you suggested here are no longer available. Do you have a suggestion for another needle brand? Thxs so much❤
Yes, I put 2 links they are just different sizes but both are very good for applique. And I reached out to the company to see if they would restock. 💜 I'm on it! LOL
