Restricted areas around theme park rides are dangerous, rides are machines just like construction equipment. The restricted areas are only entered by park employees when the rides are not running.
He actually rode the coaster about 15-20 minutes before hand, he ride with his hat and lost it during the ride. So they hopped the fence to get it after. I was told this by someone who worked there when this happened. Great video!
@@lindsey.13 Exactly! No, the park isn't or should be at fault; however, just added more restricted measures. And people probably say, this is America, they should know English, but little does some don't know, English isn't the official language of this country. We don't have one.
lindsay :: if the barricades isn’t enough of a sign nevermind common sense not to enter well..... you could give the same excuse everytime someone crosses the streets and dies: they didn’t know that they would die if they get hit - because no signs.
Not have a section of the ride at a decapitation level, because humans do dumb shit. It's not their fault in either case, but I'd be willing to say it is if it happens again. how's it go? once is an accident twice is coincidence three times is a pattern
The warning signs would be more effective if they read: “Two Persons Who Ignored This Sign Have Been Decapitated - Proceed If You Are Okay With This Risk”.
Exactly. You don't sugar coat or confuse people with the wording on these kinds of signs, especially if there's a very REAL risk of death. If I read your sign, you bet I'd be turning around and staying 100 feet away from that area. Some people don't have the forethought to see the nose on their face smh
On the one hand that might work better...but on the other hand, absolute morons exist because we've been protecting them from their own idiocy for ages. If you're this level of stupid, it might be better for humanity if you don't live long enough to breed.

My friend lost his wallet on a coaster like this one at Marine World, Africa USA years ago. We asked the attendant ....and after ten or fifteen minutes or so, a maintenance man showed up with his wallet. There is a way of doing things responsibly, and then there's climbing a fence and freelancing/trespassing.
My dad took us to Six Flags in the 80s. He was a fireman and had to carry this CB radio device he called a "pager" with him everywhere, it was about the size of a landline style cordless phone. It fell off on the one ride there that had a loop. He told staff and got it back within minutes. Pretty simple. This kid was just dumb. I know it's "terrible" to say since he died but it's the truth.
My brother-in-law lost his keys like that, they fell into the fenced area. The park we were at (Silver Dollar City) would only allow employees to go into the restricted areas when the rides were completely shut down for the day and off (aka, you had to wait for closing time to get your items back) but they would do it and you wouldn't get in trouble or anything since it was just an accident.
I feel so bad for the people who literally out of nowhere have accidentally and by no fault of their own decapitated someone. Can you even imagine going to a freaking theme park and end up decapitating someone with your foot!?!?!
I can imagine it. It'd make the day at the amusement park at least twice as amusing. I'd make a custom bumper sticker that said "I kicked a person's entire head off".
@@Mattreyu199 Considering the first time it was a 14 year old girl, I don't think she found it nearly as amusing. The second time the ride was not open, they were doing test runs.

But the friend that survived was unable to tell the authorities why he and Isaiah entered the restricted area? IMHO the park is not at fault, reasonable safety measures were taken.
He probably didn't say because he wanted to avoid accountability if at all possible. Since the ride wasn't to blame, and the other boy was dead, the surviving friend was the most likely to face any charges

@@Pillar_of_Salt you can argue it is dumb, but the reality is that people are way more likely to get hit by a car than a roller coaster. and roller coasters already have fences, whereas roads do not. So if you start putting up barbed wire fences up around roads, its basically keeping you out of somewhere you know you shouldn't be. Both places you already know you shouldn't be, and roller coasters already have fences and danger signs, so why add another pointless safety measure? that was my point. it is excessively pointless.

And then a couple years back, a teacher would jump the fence into a restricted area at Cedar Point to retrieve a phone and would get beheaded too. Stay out of restricted areas, especially if heavy machinery is involved. It isn't worth it.
Ikr why must people take matters into their own hands and inform no one professional when messing with coasters. I once lost a hat whilst on a roller coaster. You know what I did? I told the bloody employees ffs. They stopped anyone from getting on the ride and turning it on, whilst they quickly walked around the grounds of the ride, retrieved my hat, and safely made it back before turning it on. Easy as shit.
The person who accidentally kicked him probably felt so confused and awful about what happened. The rider probably had no idea what was going on until the ride was over.
Actually, riding in the front car, they probably knew exactly what was going to happen in terms of hitting the kid. That’s probably even worse because you can’t stop it, you can only watch it unfold in front of your eyes. Either way though, I really feel for the rider. That was another incident. This video is wrong. Ferguson was struck by the ride vehicle. There was another accident where a maintenance worker was killed by being struck in the head by a riders leg. I lived nearby the Six Flags over Georgia when the decapitation occurred (and using my season pass; enjoyed the theme park several times before and after the incident). I just wanted to clear up a few things: 1. All police and MSM news reports list the “lost hat” as his reason for trespassing. His friend and several other guests all openly heard him discuss plans to retrieve the hat before his death. The rumors of “wanting to touch feet” etcetera, are exactly that- rumors. Those only came about long after the tragedy, and are strongly denied by the family. 2. Six Flags DID up their safety after the accident. They put up double/triple the amount of “Danger: Do Not Enter” type signs around restricted areas. They also added barbed-wire to the top of many fences. What else should they have done? The kid consciously decided to ignore warning signs, and had to sneakily climb a super tall fence to get to where he died. The incident was entirely on him (it’s sad, but the truth). I understand that theme parks are usually the ones to blame due to sub-par safety standards, but that wasn’t the case here. If you want to talk about an accident where that WAS the case- look into the Superman ride accident where a cable snapped and severed both legs off of a little girl. That was a case of negligence.
I live in Chicago, and CTA had to do a whole ad campaign reminding people not to go onto the tracks to retrieve their dropped phones. The third rail can electrocute you to death in an instant. I understand people wanting their lost possessions back, especially if it's something sentimental or expensive, but it's not worth your life. 😥😥 I think it's better when places have a policy of "an employee will safely retrieve this for you if it drops into a dangerous area".
Thank you!!!! I just basically fact checked them about a Superman Ride of Steel incident too. Alot of what they described happened in Agawam MA and I was physically there to see it happen (so wasn't my best friend who passed away a few years ago from cancer) we saw the after math after we were next in line for a ride when they told us they had to shut it down. Ugh. I hate people who don't fact check and just repeat what they heard.
Technically he got to touch feet 🤷♂️... No, horrible joke but eh.. I completely agree the end of this video tries to make it sound like the park was indifferent and doesn't care about safety.
All of this is correct. I worked at Six Flags when this happened. The Batman ride already had tall fences and plenty of signs saying DANGER, KEEP OUT! This wasn't the fault of the ride, staff, or park security. Those barriers and signs were there for the safety of the guests. If someone chooses to ignore danger signs and go over barriers then of course bad things will happen.
It’s like the people who go beyond the gates at zoos and get attacked by the wild animals. It’s hard to feel sorry for ppl who voluntarily break the rules. But at the same time young guys feel invincible and don’t ever think they’ll be hurt.

I was literally on one of these yesterday. There are obvious and large signs not just on Batman, but on every ride, that says “do not pass this point, extreme danger and death risk” etc and the fences are very tall.
Just like some of the graphic pictograms you find on industrial machinery warning signs for example gears ripping off fingers, maybe they need a graphic pictogram of the foot kicking off the head and blood spurting out of a stump neck
Yes but no. There should be multiple layers of safety mechanisms for something as inherently dangerous as a rollercoaster. After all, a rollercoaster is about taking something very dangerous and managing the risks. Accidents happen through a chain of things going wrong. Assume that one thing will go wrong (i.e. somebody ignores the signs and fences, or a staff member is distracted, or one part of the ride fails, etc) and design a backup. (i.e. an incursion detection system, a deadman switch, failsafe braking system, etc)
@@michaela2634 Highways are a special case because it's not an integrated system (the cars are individually controlled and manufactured by third parties) and there is too much highway to implement a comprehensive safety system across it all. However, major highways in built-up areas are starting to get extra safety systems. CCTV allows the control room to see pedestrian incursion and controllers can remotely display warnings on overhead signs for drivers to beware, or even reduce the speed limit and close lanes from the control room. They can also dispatch a vehicle to pick up the pedestrian. A car also has a safety system: a driver who can see obstacles and slow down or avoid a pedestrian. Rollercoasters don't have those luxuries. So other systems should be in place to detect incursion into especially dangerous parts.

@@mersilvaureus1525 So it's true that they would need to put in enough force to decapitate a human, but that force isn't being applied back to the foot, that force is being spread into the neck of the victim and into tearing their head off. If the foot hit something that didn't give then that object would exert an equal and opposite force back on the foot, but in this case the head gave way and instead of getting the full force back into the foot the force was put into moving the head off the person's body. At least I think that's how it work's, I only have a high school understanding of physics lmao.

I mean, a highway is a public infrastructure, and the drivers would be considered responsible for the collision. Also people do put up memorials on highways when someone dies there, to remind everyone what happened. A rollercoaster is the property of a business, and if their customers keep dying for the exact same reason, it'd behoove the company to make SOME sort of change. There will always be some people acting stupid. Many things are designed to protect stupid people from themselves. What even counts as stupid? There are many levels of intelligence - what you think is reasonable another might think stupid.
Thats a lack of compassion talking. There was no memorial or any real acknowledgement. He isn't saying changes needed to be made but it is still as sad fact thst multiple people died.
Ace Baker no it’s not. The narrator says toward the end that despite the deaths, no changes to the ride were made. Why would the ride need to be changed? And a memorial? At an amusement park? What would that look like, exactly? And there was acknowledgment. They talked about what a tragic accident it was. What more do you think needs to be done here? Did I say it wasn’t sad? It’s terrible and awful for all involved. But the ride doesn’t need to be changed, a memorial plaque or something won’t make any difference, and I don’t know what more you want in the way of acknowledgement. You’re making stuff up and talking out of your ass to sound empathetic when you’re really a tool with no commonsense.
It's so very disturbing that line was considered proper by the narrator. Or bemoaning that there "is no memorial" to the events. Foolishness & poor judgment spans the human condition. But for the Grace of God go I.
There is no memorial because Six Flags wasn't at fault. If you illegally hop two, tall fences that say "Prohibited Entry" on them then you are the one who is responsible. I still can't believe that the persons leg wasn't shattered too!
I would put memorials at 6 foot intervals all along both fences. “In memory of the boy whose head was taken off by somebody’s foot when he ignored all the signs and scaled this fence”.
I was working at La ronde (Montreal's six flags) and it's chilling to know that we lost one of our co-workers in THE EXACT same manner in 2012 to another clone of the Batman ride.
I live in GA. Everytime I’m in line for Batman, there is a hat right over the fence at the location where the coaster drops right above the line of people, right as you exit a makeshift sewer. It’s almost like a macabre joke/tribute. Anyone in the vicinity has heard the story of this tragedy since grade school.

Umm... no it doesn't. If all 17 year olds were this dumb, there would be less adults and stories like these would be a lot more common. I also like how you're ignoring that a 58 year old man was also killed in the same way.
You’d expect the impact broke their leg that amazes me . Imagine being those people “Don’t mess with me or I’ll kick your head clean off your shoulders , I’ve done it before and I could do it again “ No honestly I’d still be in therapy if I was the leg owner 😱
I have heard from more credible sources that there was nobody on the ride at the time, and it was an empty car. this ultimately makes a lot more sense once you think about it. Enough energy to decapitate a person is definitely enough to injure a leg.
He actually got this one wrong, it broke her leg in eight places and took over a year and eight months to fully recover mentally she will never recover. 15-year-old girl kicked a man’s head off
At Magic Mountain, the ride operator at Deja-vu told me to take off my glasses, "...or else you'll lose 'em" so i took them off, hooked them to my T-shirt under my hoodie cinched up the string. The view was a bit blurry, but man that was an awesome ride and i kept my glasses
Nah, they'd be sad at first but then realize it is kind of funny because they can say "I literally kicked someone's head off". Few people will ever get to say that while being truthful.
I was there that day, nothing was out of the ordinary. They closed the ride but didn't tell anyone why. Ive always been afraid of heights and coasters, i wasn't happy to be there with the family, but everyone else wanted to go.
I don’t like saying this, but he climbed over TWO warning fences to be back there, it was very intentional. The boy would be alive if he heeded the two warnings NOT to enter. That’s what happens when you lose your head! 🙃
That’s horrible. If someone had previously died in that same situation, the park should’ve done a better job at securing that area. No one should be able to get in there at ALL until it’s safe. Sure there are signs, but kids brains aren’t developed fully and will do impulsive things. That is a common fact. In a setting meant to be filled with kids, it should be incredibly safe. The park however, should’ve done a better job at securing that area.
"The other boy who had accompanied him into the restricted area was uninjured"... but probably mentally scarred for life! Maybe those warning signs should instead say “Keep out. Trespassers will have their head kicked off”
@Jeanine Wathern Because you're normal not a bleeding heart idiot. Don't ever feel bad for people like this. They put themselves in danger and paid for it. Fair is fair.
@B Mac Grow up. All kids do stupid things because they aren’t developed enough to fully understand the consequences of their actions. If that’s difficult for you to grasp I have no doubt that your own frontal lobe was stunted at some point
Pretty sure the second kid was a 13 year old cousin of his. As dumb as that whole situation was I can't help but feel deep pain for that kid having that image in his mind for the rest of his life. Imagine the seconds after the accident...one second his cousin is there and the next...god knows he saw just standing there looking for what probably felt like forever. I just cannot even.
He’s probably too busy collecting disability and blaming everything on the PTSD he has from seeing his idiot friend’s head fly off to recall why they were dumb enough to do what they did in the first place.
I think there is only so much you can do to protect people from their own bad choices. Warning signs everywhere, multiple fences to inhibit trespass and people still manages to find a way. That’s not the parks fault. I feel for that boys mama, but the dude had to really make an effort to get himself killed.
Sharing a story, a real event. In the '60's I was a kid. Lived in a town with a huge "viaduct", a bridge that went over about 10 clustered railroad tracks. Two young teenagers skipped school, went to the tracks, and decided to stand between two sets of tracks, thinking trains would go thundering by on each side. They told friends, which is why we know their plan. Unfortunately they hadn't taken into account that train cars are wider than their rails, and the wind would be terrifically fast and hard. Both were crushed. R.I.P. I didn't know either boy. Somehow I feel they should not be forgotten.
Thanks for telling this story. I need to talk to my 12-year-old about this. I think he’s a rather smart and careful boy, but maybe he needs a reminder… Better safe than sorry. 🌹
I just noticed you have 1.1 million subs even though I've been watching your content for about 3 years. I'm sorry I don't pay attention to that stuff, but if it's not to late: *Congratulations* !
I really don’t wanna come off disrespectful to the dead here, but they’re entirely at fault.... the jumped two fences to go into a restricted area willfully, and the rides were not at fault as per the inspections. They made a bad choice and it ended tragically. But it was 100% preventable. I hope maybe some daring people who’ve heard their story at least take the lesson they paid for to heart and don’t do anything similar....
alphi486 no it’s not it’s the damn guy who got killed fault he’s the one who climbed the damn 6 ft fence that had signs that said not to trespass and warnings and danger written on them it’s the guys fault not the ride because the ride was doing what a roller coaster dolls moving along the damn track at a high speed
When I was at Cedar Point as a teenager I lost a bandana while on a rollar coaster. When we got off the ride I saw it by one of the coaster's supports on the ground. You know what I did? I went to one of the employees and pointed out my lost bandana, they assessed it wasn't an area they were in danger of getting hit in, and they went and got it for me. Still have that bandana actually. IF he was trying to get a lost hat that's what you should do. And if not, well you should never go in a restricted area like this, they're restricted for a reason. Tragic accident, but easily preventable.
That's right I agree 1000 percent do not ignore those signs and risk your life to receive personal items just a horrible not following the rules mistake he made that cause him his life
The queues for these rides are long, they give everyone ample time to figure out what to do with hats, glasses, etc. I remember riding coasters at Disney and seeing all the expensive merch thrown on the ground of the ride 🤦🏻♀️ some people you just can’t help.
I used to work at a theme park and I've had to emergency stop a roller coaster on the way up the ramp because I saw a child in the restricted area. Once the roller coaster leaves the top of the ramp, gravity takes over, it doesn't stop until it hits the brakes at the end. A colleague later told me he witnessed a man lift his child over the fence into the ride area so he could have a wee, rather than walk to the nearest toilet. There was a section of track that was barely two feet off the ground, where the child could easily have met unthinkable injury. Luckily I saw the child and stopped the ride before it was too late, of course even if I hadn't it's unlikely the child would have been in the precise spot at exactly the right time where it was very dangerous. But it goes to show it's not just children who make stupid, dangerous decisions. To think a grown man can put his own child in such an obviously dangerous area to save five minutes is astounding. Don't climb fence in theme parks, stay in areas where you're supposed to be. That really shouldn't need to be emphasised. If you've lost a hat, tough luck. If you really want it back, ask the operators at the end of the day just as the ride closes, and you might get lucky, if you're polite and apologise for not securing it in the first place.
...So I'm assuming after stopping the ride and retrieving the child, the man who threw his kid over the fence was then hunted for sport by you and your coworkers, right?
@@ongbonga9025 Are you kidding? You couldn't kick the dude out of the park at least? You're gonna let a parent get away with almost murdering their child while teaching them it's okay to literally piss all over public property?
I guess it depends on the shoes. If your ankle is secured and the hit is on the side of the foot or your shoes have some kind of toes protection, I don't think you would suffer anything more than a bruise.
We picture "decapitation" as a full on cut off of a head, but oftentimes, simply tearing the spine, arteries and muscles inside the neck counts as "decapitation". I highly doubt this case was a clean cut. Sorry, I just realised I'm telling you some real gruesome stuff, but I guess that comes with the channel. :(
Speed plus velocity plus all the power behind the ride means that whatever connects with a stationery object has much more force than normal. The boy got hit as the ride was coming down a steep drop so the brakes at the top of the ramp has released and now the car is under the power of gravity until it hits the next brake section so no way to stop it. That's a hell of a lot of power behind the foot. I doubt that his head came off like it was cut by a blade, it was likely much more messy since the pressure of the foot against the skull may have forced the brain up and out or removed part of the face like the jaw. Decapitation isnt usually as clean when its done by a blunt object or in an accident like this. Really nasty accident but entirely down to the boy being dumb. If he's listened in science class he might have realised why this was a terrible idea.
@I am The senate I think he could be mixing stories though... I remember hearing about the incident and it wouldn’t make sense that the kid would jump the fence if he knew the cars were running... he jumped the fence after the park either closed or opened and then was hit by an empty car while they were doing test runs
So, I live right nearby this park. It was a big news day. To correct one thing stated in the video, the person whose leg was involved in the decapitation did not come out unscathed. Their leg was shattered. They went to the hospital where my sister still works. Btw, been on this specific Batman ride many, many times. It's good fun.
God, can you imagine having a severely broken leg and being whipped around in a roller coaster for probably several more minutes until returning to the station?? Ouch! It's not like they could just instantly stop the ride after it happened. Stuff of nightmares.
Most rider only last a few seconds, not minutes. I had a similar thought about the rest of the ride, but they would likely not notice either much of the pain or the ride itself due to adrenaline and sensory overload. You'd be surprised how little you feel until your conscious brain catches up with the neural receptors
I would imagine adrenaline would be coursing through his body just from being on the ride so would not have noticed the extent of the damage straight away until the ride stopped and the adrenaline decreased then the pain would start.
bruh I once just came out of a wooden coaster with a friend when we saw that the fire fighters were approaching apparently someone thought it was a good idea to drop a cigarette there with the outside temperature being like 30 degrees so the wooden coaster we just came off just kinda catched on fire 😬

The lesson here: when it comes to theme parks, restricted areas are restricted for a reason! Stay safe, everyone.

I lived nearby the Six Flags over Georgia when the decapitation occurred (and using my season pass; enjoyed the theme park several times before and after the incident). I just wanted to clear up a few things:

You can’t design a ride with every possible “what if somebody did this dumb thing” situation in mind.
Exactly like….at some point it’s your responsibility to just not intentionally get yourself killed
If you're scaling two well-marked six foot fences then you're taking your life into your own hands.
@@3rdalbum That's ridiculous. Should we do the same thing with every road in the world? Only takes a few steps onto a highway to get killed by a car.

That's so sad. I can believe it though. Teen boys are reckless beings. I live near a viaduct as well.

@@sarahewson3607 Yeah I thought my bandanna was secure bc it was very tight on my head and I'd ridden other rides with it on but whoops I was wrong
If you really want it back, ask the operators at the end of the day just as the ride closes, and you might get lucky, if you're polite and apologise for not securing it in the first place.
he lifted his child to take a piss in a dangerous ride area? dear lord
...So I'm assuming after stopping the ride and retrieving the child, the man who threw his kid over the fence was then hunted for sport by you and your coworkers, right?

I'm surprised that the person's foot was ok as it hit something hard at such high speeds. It's also perplexing that a foot could decapitate someone.
You would be surprised by how easy a head can be separated from the body. It happens more frequently than most people realize.
I have size 14 feet, my trainers weigh a lot but if I had boots on?? They would probably cut a torso in half tbh
I actually feel bad for the person whose leg it was that decapitated him. Imagine living with that when it wasn't your fault
So your telling me there is someone out there who has literally booted someone's head off without injuring themselves. That's pretty impressive
Pretty sure it was an empty cart, if I’m remembering right, they were sending test runs through the track and he was hit by an oncoming test car
