I played this game this year for the first time, and it's become a favourite of mine too. The TG-16 interpretation of Ys IV is a much nicer game than the SNES version, that's for sure. :D And the PS2 version goes... somewhere in between, haha. I've actually spent pretty much the entirety of the year 2023 playing mostly nothing but Ys games - started Ys Book I & II in February this year, and continued on to play almost every game in the series in order. Last week I started Ys IX Monstrum Nox, and thus I am almost nearing the end of my Ys journey. (Until Ys X comes out in English haha) It's been a great ride!
I prefer Ys IV mask of the sun on SNES... but I guess Memories of Celceta is the official canon now. They used to say that the SNES game was the true canon. But I think the soundtrack sounds vastly superior in Dawn of Ys. I never played through this version due to all the canon talk.
@@jmssun That's how I understood it, and I am a fan of Ys IV mask of the sun on SNES, and was super annoyed at all the changes in memories of Celceta. Ys IV at this point is a big mess. We got like 4 very different versions out here when we include the Ps2 remake which I have never played either.
The TG-16 version of Ys Book I & II is the only version of the Ys I story where Sara wasn't killed, but instead went into hiding. Ys IV Dawn of Ys seems to be a continuation of specifically the TG-16 version of Ys I&II.
Just like she said, she didn't die but just went to the mainland to get away from Dark Fact. How did she get through the storm wall? Uh... no more questions! Anyway like you say in the official continuity she's just dead.
When Ys 6 came out, this game's plotline blended well with that game's lore. I know Falcom kept saying MotS is the canon version but this version has more details that still work with the lore as it grew. And ironically, for Celceta Falcom would basically default to this game's idea that the winged race were benevolent (as opposed to MotS's where they're evil).
I beat this game two years ago and it's been living rent free in my head since...glad someone posted a complete playthrough of this.

That intro is godlike. Got everything right including depicting the shield magic. tearjerker
Heck yeah, you're back at retro RPGs :D
I know memories of celceta is what's cannon, as said by falcom themselves, but this is an interesting take.
Rames' voice acting starting at 1:08:00 is so ridiculous.😂All those S sounds whistle so haaaard.
im stuck at the flame boss, i might have to grind a few levels
The only Canon ys4

@ I said that exactly because it will never be Canon, just me barking at the train 😂

I might be missing something here giving the dubious continuity of this game and all... But how the hell is Sara still alive??

I consider the Hudson Soft version of Ys I&II, Wanderer and Dawn to be its own tetralogy (or trilogy if you want to consider I&II to be as one).
The boss at 3:42:50 is ridiculous.

Man those Boss fights suck ass!
(No they are quiet good I just suck balls at this game)
