    Caruso was absolutely terrific in every way. Beautiful quality through every register and through every tenor phase from lyric to Spinto Dramatic

    Every one of his recordings was produced acoustically, no electricity was involved - the vibrations were cut into wax by a stylus attached to a metal diaphragm. The technique worked better with male rather than female voices. Also, in the early 1900’s women were trained to sing with limited vibrato - many sounded hooty.
