Haul ours home this weekend. Wean on the 11th and send out the big steers. Prices have looked pretty stellar this week. You should do well, they are looking nice. 👍
@@3dranchmanitobaheck, budgets balance themselves 🤣🤣🤣🤣. I was checking out new discbines a couple days ago. Think they’ve gone up 35% or more since I bought my last one five years ago. But I’m about done with this green piece of junk. It’s in great shape, but the driveline components are awful light. Been replacing parts they already replaced under warranty on it. I grease and service according to the book, which is a pain in the butt on this machine, but stuff is not built well at all.
@chadtosh6831 yes we can feel good about what we are getting but there is always something to replace. Equipment wears out, infrastructure needs to be maintained or rebuilt, the list goes on and on. At least we can look forward and possibly do those things but it's going up in price too . Never ending circle.
Damn nice cattle! That group of 61 steers were really, really nice nice! I love my red cows. I have red angus-red sim cross and Red Angus-Red Saler cross. All good mothers. The Saler cross seem to have more milk. Use Herford bulls on them and get really nice red baldy calves.
@3dranchmanitoba yeah... Those crosses on the cows with the Herford bulls really work well. The buyers really like those calves. Only bad thing is I can't keep replacement heifers because I lose my 1/3, 1/3, 1/3 ratio in their calves. Using the Herford bulls, I end up with more Herford in those calves than I want. I tried it with a dozen of them for three years, and the calves didn't gain as well, and they just didn't look like the rest. They got pulled out of the big group of calves at the sale every time. So, I have to buy my females. Good Red Angus- Red Simmental cross aren't too hard to find. But the Saler cross are kind'a hard to come by. And their calves seem to do just a little better than the Sim cross. So I always have other people and some buyers keeping their eyes open for me.
I weened on Saturday too, but the cows are still down on the pasture. They will stay there on a sacrifice area til I run out of hay there or it gets too cold for the water system. The calves went from the corral into the finishing shed. It must be nice to drive them down the road like that😊 there's no way I could try that. Heck I was lucky to get everyone I needed in the corral without much trouble. I hope you get good prices for your calves 👍
We sell ours through a presort as well. Seems to work well for us. I know when I buy calves, I will pay more for a bigger group of like animals to put on feed.
Had to feed hay today, it's too wet to leave the cows out, so after feeding bales, they got locked in the lot.. probably in for the year now. Was banking on pasture through November, but... Getting it done there 👍
@@GosselinFarmsEdGosselin hey Ed, I see you have big barns to house them. I would imagine your climate is similar to Vancouver and when it does rain alot, the cattle would just mud up the ground.

@@chadtosh6831 the whole sale went well. Not often the prices go up during the fall run. A guy can breath a sigh of relief and relax for a day. Lol

@3dranchmanitoba mud season is all winter, unless it freezes up good.
The calculated shrink is yardage or for manure drop and removal from stock yard
@@bcpfarmandtrucking6560 yes that right, it's basically that.

Yeah I’d love someone to justify why we get dinged shrinkage when they can vouch for our calves haven’t been padded up
@@piperdoug428 yes that's been an ongoing question forever, but it's what's we have to work with.
