I had something very similar happen, my wire between the points and condenser was touching the case of the condenser. I now use heat shrink on any wire that can come close to grounding out. Awesome video
I believe you helped me out with this video. Ignition problems will drive a sane man crazy! I would like to add that even if they are not touching but close on the secondary, a spark can jump and reduce the output so the spark voltage is lower, but not enough to jump across.
Thank you for this video I just bought my first a t c last night gotta home after work today to figure out what I needed to do I have no fire. Now I have a better idea of what i'm getting into tomorrow really appreciate it.
The lead that comes off the points and goes to the ignition coil, is how I always set my point gap as a kid, I connected an ohm meter, or test light with a battery in circuit from the ground of the motor to that lead and turned the flywheel slowly till the timing marks lined up. The meter showed a reading of continuity to ground or the light would stay on until the moment the points were opened, I would set the points so they opened right when the timing marks lined up. The proper tools and troubleshooting skills with electrical circuits makes these kind of problems very easy to diagnose.
Thanks for that Video. Any idea what the ac voltage output should be on a 1986 xr100. ??? I am reading with a test light and get a nice bright flicker. When I test the ac voltage from the charging coil it is reading between 5.5vac and 7.3vac with a drill turning the engine. Thanks

Most people forget to put oil on the points cam felt and or points cam lube.nice fix.very clean engine.

Good luck!
Have fun the best part of owning a motor cycle for .e is working on them

This is great camera work and really helpful! Thanks for a quality video!
Thank you. Very helpful video. Much appreciated 👍
Nice job sir! Great video.

Excellent video
How did you keep the flywheel nut from coming off when you spun it with the drill ? Lefty loosie ?
Thanks for the tips!
THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH, THIS IS EXAVTLY WHAT WAS HAPPENING TO MINE!!!!!
hi I see that you use your impact to run your engine but what type of socket do you use? bye good video !
Great video man. Where did you get the engine stand?
great video helped me alot
Great explanation
Very helpful many thanks 😊
Do you need a battery to have spark
Thanks that is what my problem is I did the same way you did but not getting spark out of either wire
I don't have a puller like you do though
u should pull the wires up some at the wiring harness so they dont rub on the flywheel
