The same phenomena was filmed in May of 2009 with two of these "UFOs". There's been some analyses done on the videos which suggests it is one of those mini RC gliders. These are popular in Taiwan and I have seen then at night before the fireworks at certain festivals. One footage shows that the object isn't white but is multicoloured consistent with the lights of these gliders. It just looks like a white blob from far away.
This video brings back the time when I had my New Year's Celebration in Taipei. The experience is very good. My wife and I were there with other people sitting in front of Taipei 101 as it starts the count down and finally the fireworks display starts. People are greeting Shi Nien Kwaile or Happy New Year. Couples are kissing, some are dancing in the streets and others are giving lucky coins (1NT$)...
I so want to see this someday! I went up to the observation deck of this building in Oct 2011. It is an amazing building. Second tallest building in the world (tallest until 2010). It looks so out of place as it is triple the size of any surrounding buildings. You could see it for miles even with the mountainous region. I loved my visit to Taiwan and can't wait to go back.
2 minutes and around 3:27 are amazing. Seeing this in person is definitely on my list of things to do before I die. Sorry London 2012, these fireworks are much much better.
seen allot of the other clips regarding this sighting and it does look like this thing is under some kind of control...its making slight directional changes while moving...looks legit to me..... the fireworks are stunning...i hope they see them with the same beauty as us all.....
I stood under 101 watching this and everybody was so quiet! No one shouted happy new year after the show ended.. Everybody just took their cameras out and filmed the thing without really getting in high spirits.. Sad to say it got the mood down...

@taiwanreporter I find that tiny dot of light fascinating. I checked other uploads on youtube and in each video I found that dot moving from different angles. So what was it? could it be a helicopter covering the event? For now it is a UFO(unidentified flying object) for me.
@andresgvasquez I took it out after lots of people complained and it seemed to drown out the sounds of the fireworks completely. It was a track that youtube automatically offers when you upload a video, I think the name was mentioned in one of the first comments. Let me have a look.

@andresgvasquez Can't find it, sorry. Just upload any video of about 6:20, then listen to the songs UA-cam automatically offers for background (click on "edit video"). It was the 5th or so song from top.

@taiwanreporter You should write that intro in simplified Chinese characters so that ppl in the PRC can read it. I know UA-cam is blocked in Mainland China but many ppl find ways to get round that problem.
