Andrew Yang has gotta be the realest guy in politics these days. Holy cow. He really doesn’t mind sharing how corrupt the political world is. I hope he runs in ‘28, I would vote for him easily
To Rainn & Andrew, thank y’all so much for this conversation! Rainn, thank you for bringing up ‘dystopia’ and ‘utopia’ so much- and thank you for your questions (which I ask very frequently too). Thank y’all for being y’all! ♾️😎🖖🏻🙏🏻♾️
Dear Rainn, I really appreciated and learned from your interview with Andrew Yang on Soul Boom. As a mathematician, he explained we have an economy of plenty. What I would ask you and Mr. Yang is, since AI, robotics and automatons do work ( take jobs) without paying taxes, who should pay the taxes for the robotics,? and who should benefit from the "replicator" economy.?
I love Rainn and I love this show. I am a weed smoker that plays video games, and I do contribute to society (veteran, up to date on my taxes, etc), and I feel that if you spent a little time with us you'd better understand why it's so hurtful to hear bad example after bad example of our chosen lifestyle. It's hard to describe a wastrel without being quasi-specific, but that one hurt a little.
Consent based systems are better than consensus based systems, which is why ranked choice is superior. Two voters night strongly disagree with each other’s first choice, but they might have the same second choice.
This was so refreshing, I needed it. I chose not to vote in the election because I am so tired of the left/right paradigm that seems to lock people into all or nothing tribal thinking. We are definitely at a critical place in this country and we need new ideas and vision to move forward in healthy ways that benefit the vast majority. So many of us are sick of the corruption and the 2 party system that props it up.
Bobby Kennedy and Andrew Yang are the only two political figures I'm trusting. I think now, with Bobby leading Trump's self funded Transition Team, with no corporate lobbyists involved, is Yang's perfect opportunity to get himself an existing or new cabinet position where he would actually have the power to make change (unlike him getting a low level, cog-turning agency role in the Biden/Harris admins).
The government seems just as vulnerable to corruption as corporate powers... Also, when the government can demonstrate that they are capable of managing money without racking up outrageous debt, then, maybe we could revisit giving them a larger allowance.
How can we incentivize our leaders to actually implement these kinds of changes? Our world is what we make it, can we do anything to start change without them?
Thanks for the analysis! A bit off-topic, but I wanted to ask: I have a SafePal wallet with USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). Could you explain how to move them to Binance?
"If you want to pull the major party that's closest to what you're thinking, you must-YOU MUST-show them that you're capable of NOT voting for them. If you don't show them you're capable of not voting for them, they don't have to listen to you. I promise you that. I worked within the Democratic Party. I didn't listen or have to listen to anything on the left while I was working within the Democratic Party, because the left had nowhere to go." Lawrence O'Donnell on the 2006 documentary, 'An Unreasonable Man'.
Used to see things this way. Till I saw what our generosity during Covid did to the economy. People like myself who've been working our tails off for decades pretty much got set to zero thanks to inflation
Veman5409, you're not wrong about inflation and what you've experienced, like at all, but it's also important to acknowledge the greater contribution to this issue, which is the fiat banking system, and the bailouts for big corporations and big banks back in 2008, mid 2010's and again 2020s. We have a systems issue, not a generosity issue. We also have various systems that have two different sets of rules for the public (you and I) and a different set of rules for the self proclaimed "elite" and "too big to fail corporations." As Rainn was directly alluding to, we have a SYSTEM issue in America... financial SYSTEM, governance SYSTEM, and all the other systems that are exploiting the noble and good hearted people in America and for that matter all the noble hearted people worldwide. Systems can also bring the worst out of people, or bring the best out of people.
If you get a chance, you might appreciate the book "New Money for a New World." In it, the authors explore how financial systems originating in Europe and later dominated by America were structured in ways that often foster competition and division within communities. The authors then delve into the history of communities before these financial systems emerged, illustrating how neighbors once supported and cared for one another. However, with the introduction of these systems, incentives shifted, encouraging individuals to prioritize self-interest and compete with neighboring farms. All the best =)
Kamala isn’t running on a platform?!? On my god, how many times can she say her policies and millions of dollars does she need to put in to advertise for people to FUCKING LISTEN.
I think the idea is that she's not running on a NEW platform. It's all the same rhetoric that the democratic party has been hiding behind for the past decade.
Big fan of you both! Your work always inspires me to think about a better future. I recently created a short AI-generated story and video about a future of abundance, showcasing some of the most exciting use cases for emerging technology. I made the entire thing-from concept to completion-on my phone using tools like MidJourney and Kling AI. It’s the only video on my channel right now, and I’d be honored if you took a look. (Proud to have supported Andrew’s campaign too!) Thanks for inspiring creativity and innovation!

Rainn, out of love I know you passionate about these topics and I love it but ive notice that you do about 60% of the talking and your guest do about 40% so ive notice that your guest tend to talk faster when they do have an opportunity to speak. if you can go down 50% that is where the magic happens this my humble opinion. but great podcast this one of my favorite podcast in the world!
there is a lot of info out there on how UBI properly implemented and paid for (VAT on tech) would not cause inflation outside of maybe some luxury items, search any UBI articles written by Scott Santens for ample evidence 🧢
59:31 this is as far as could make it through this episode. Rainn sitting in his detailed and decorated set, (I’m sure was done by someone paid to decorate it) while talking about poor people and what we the people should change about our own lives..it’s giving hunger games my dude. This isn’t enlightenment, it’s dystopian. It’s gross.
Great discussion but, what you two are pointing at is a human mental illness. It exists throughout history and in all cultures. Today, because of where we are with the different levels of intelligence and the ability to reach more people we need to call it out for what it is. We need to name everyone that is creating our societal problems and put them in their own space where they can beat each other up and yet leave the rest of us alone while we continue to thrive, love each other and enjoy life.
What do you mean we have a socialist government and we have all these wonderful programs? Not anymore it depends where you live. I live in a red community but in a blue state. Mary Miller Rep friend of Trump Republicans. These programs and disappearing as we speak.
I can't really take Yang seriously as any sort of alternative to the status quo. He hasn't tweeted about Israel/Palestine in over a year. For someone with such a large platform, that is disgraceful.
@@Thelilbone I mean he's in charge of the 'Forward Party' seems odd to not have a stance on such an important issue, my comment keeps getting deleted when I use the g word
The Forward party doesn’t have a platform other than being reasonable and making democracy function, doesn’t feel like a damned if you do, damned if you don’t situation is a good for anyone to be weighing in on right now when they are talking about local politics
“Yang hasn’t even tweeted” at first I thought you were making a joke to make a different point about how meaningless and lazy it can be to respond to world crises with tweets.
Thank you. Elevated conversations are a relief during this final week of blood thirsty campaigning.
Love yang, no bs and spitting facts. He has such clarity about the current political situation as well as practical solutions ❤❤
Big thank you to Andrew, especially shouting out invisible disabilities!
One of the democratic primary candidates getting interviewed by Dwight has gotta be the most 2024 thing ever

Thank you Rainn and Andrew! A big The Office and Soulboom fan from Finland 😊👍
Thank god they’re talking about ranked choice voting!!!! 🍃✨✨✨
Using what I learned on this show for a radio broadcast today, November 3, 2024. KCIW in Curry County Oregon.

Not voting because of the horrible 2 party system is not the gotcha you think it is.
man this episode pissed me off because it reminded me of how messed to hell our country is. I appreciate it. thanks Rainn & Yang!

I don't know that he is interested in hitching his wagon to either horse after his experience running for President in 2016.
The government seems just as vulnerable to corruption as corporate powers... Also, when the government can demonstrate that they are capable of managing money without racking up outrageous debt, then, maybe we could revisit giving them a larger allowance.
Sounds like Rain would like the Green Party platform
WE NEED PODCASTS IN SPANISH MR. WILSON 😢 IM A FAN OF MÉXICO

Another great episode from Soul Boom!
Interview Helene Landemore about her book Open Democracy; elections are not the answer. We need a real deliberative democracy.
Dude, COLORADO did NOT approve ranked choice voting. Unreal.

idk anything about UBI but wouldn't it cause massive inflation?
A lot of inflation, particularly in recent years, is just companies increasing prices of their goods and services to make more profit.

Andrew. Please stop telling people to call their mom. It’s patronizing and presumptuous. Everything else sounded great.
Rainn is obnoxiously woke, really disappointed me.
Define “woke”. What’s so obnoxious about believing we can do better?
I can't really take Yang seriously as any sort of alternative to the status quo. He hasn't tweeted about Israel/Palestine in over a year. For someone with such a large platform, that is disgraceful.
Perhaps it's because of how divisive a topic it is?
To me, picking a side isn't absolute love.

Both of them don't deserve a microphone.
Why not? Are you against freedom of speech?
