    Hi John, The most helpful video I've seen, it helps a lot. Can you take the setup on step further? Could you tell me how to make the right settings in Windows Sound Control Panel Audio Setting and the corresponding property sheets? What mic are you enabling and what device are you selecting for "Playback Through the Device?" When you introduce the audio card for the mic and speakers and the mixer what device names are you choosing? What are the device names you are enabling in Zoom as well?
    Thank you.

      @JCLiveoutloud Рік тому

      Hi Peter, I may need a phone call or some screen shot email shares to walk through this with you. Have you found the settings you seek and have them optimized (typically on or off). Typically, one computer "host" has the sound on with all going through this. Any other device needs to be muted. Additional mics can be live in the room and with the mixer it's seen as one mic in (sound card) for the zoom and host.

      WORSX Could you elaborate on this point. I am currently using an audio USB interface connected to the Macbook but am having trouble connecting and using 2 mics at the same time. 1 mic on the presenter and 1 mic used for Q&A from audience.

    • @wworsxx
      @wworsxx 2 роки тому

    John, thank you very much for this video. It came at the perfect time. I have been running the Zoom meetings for my retirement club for the past couple of years, but we are now starting to meet in person, but all the distant retirees want to keep attending virtually. 2 days ago was my first attempt using a little bit of borrowed equipment plus my personal laptop, and learning on the fly. As can be guessed, things did not go well. I was trying to control 2 web cameras, 1 powered speaker, 1 projector, Zoom and a powerpoint presentation by myself from my one computer. I think I may have expected too much from the equipment and myself. This was my first of your videos, and I am looking forward to many more with similar information.
    Currently I just have 1 laptop (fairly powerful), 2 low end web cams, 1 8 year old projector and a borrowed powered speaker. I don't have any microphones, mixers or control panels of any kind at this moment. Do you have any videos in your library that go into fairly detailed list of equipment needed and how to use it ! I know this video touched on equipment, but looking for more advice.
    Thanks again !
    PS: I just found the buying guide, and that seems to be a good start on what I am looking for.

      The zoom audio out goes to 5/6 on the mixer to sync the sound with the room so zoomers can be heard. 5/6 receives the sound vs. send. The aux out or headphone out jack is used to send the audio to those on zoom to hear what's said in the room. Is this helpful? @t

    Thank you this informative video. What if I also use a lavalier mic for the presenter because the PA mic does not record well on Zoom. In my scenario, I have no control of the PA system wireless mic. The Host and speaker are on two different zoom accounts in the same room. The PA system also has hdmi ports that carry the audio from the presenter's computer but not his mic.
    Thanks for any assistance you might be able to provide.

    • @JCLiveoutloud
      @JCLiveoutloud 2 роки тому

      Peter, Have you gotten this improved or dialed in? One needs to have all the mics go through the same external mixer. Have the PA mic routed though your mixer as well. You are correct ... it will not sound good on zoom if it's separate from your Host System. The hotel we recorded the video in is the actual room for their Rotary meetings. We rerouted their wireless mic through the mixer and then back to the wall XLR plug. The HDMI ports on the wall for the audio can be a bit trickier with settings. We could visit if needed.

    I used this exact setup for a meeting last week. I could not get the sound INTO the computer from the AUX Send - exact same board, exact same adapters (tried all three), but could not get the mixing board into the computer from my AUX Send. I eventually used the other Mic Output (one went to the room and the other into my computer) and it worked like a champ, but I couldn't control the level for the Mic Input into the computer. Thoughts? Does this mixing board require a special switch to get it to send output using the AUX Send? I turned the phantom power on and off, adjust the volume, had the settings correct in the computer, but couldn't get that part to work. The rest worked very well, but I was the whipping boy for the first three speakers.

    Does the audio mixer inherently prevent feedback in some way or does it just make it easier to balance volume/sensitivity levels?

    • @markbulla1851
      @markbulla1851 3 роки тому

      Yes and no. The sound that is going back to the Zoom people comes out of the Aux output from the mixer. The sound to the room is on a main output. Since you can control them separately, you can turn up the remote (zoom) person talking to the room without it getting too loud going back to the computer, and you can keep the volume from the local speaker turned down to the room so it won't feed back, but at a good level to the computer to go back out on zoom.

    • @skopa1223
      @skopa1223 2 роки тому +1

      That was going to be question. I figured the people at home coming through the local speakers would still cause loop/echo.
      So it’s simply about keep local speakers low so the hand held mic doesn’t pic it up right?
      And I could forgo the mic/headphone/USB adapter if using a USB mixer right?

    • @JCLiveoutloud
      @JCLiveoutloud 2 роки тому

      @@skopa1223 Did you get this resolved? It should work as shown yet ... with some experimentation. And yes ... the sound level is sent to the zoomers and they can adjust their volume on their device. Once the settings are determined, typically stay the same each week. A few tests in the setup prior to the meeting and as people join in and you're dialed in.

    If the computer has a built in line in and headphones out, would there be any need for the usb audio adapter?

    • @RotaryDistrict-ue5if
      @RotaryDistrict-ue5if  3 роки тому

      I don’t believe so. I’ve not seen this feature and it sounds like it would work. The cables would be the same. Though the USB Sound Adapter may not be needed, the nice thing about having the sound adapter, is it gives the option and makes it simple to use a different laptop

      I agree especially with the reference to “if you need to use a different computer”. In my experience, when it comes to Windows PC, there can be variation and some fussiness to what audio input gets recognized. Using some form of USB adapter seems to be recognized more consistently. If the environment always uses the same gear, this would be less of a factor.

    and what if you are going to have an interpreter present physically in the room and he is spouse to provide interruption to and from a zoom participants? we just had a workshop last week and I had to invite the interpreter as a normal user into zoom and used a usb sound adpter and a wireless mic and the speaker connected to a mixer (where participants used a headset with 2 differentchannelsto hear both languages) . it wasn't a smooth process, any suggestions?

      If you can use a paid version of Zoom, it has separate language channel available. It's the only platform that I'm aware of that has this feature and it works well. The host assigns interpreters to each language pair (up to 6 I believe) and participants choose which language to hear - with or without the original at low level. The main thing it lacks for long meetings is the ability for interpreters to hear each other in order to know when to take turns.

      @@mohamedhamid1251 Surely agree with you there. Especially when the live venue gets bigger and have to use outboard sound equipment. I find that Zoom/others get less good at managing the echo when the sound is not handled by the computer the app is on. Though plenty of videos here that make it sound easy...

      @@mohamedhamid1251 Perhaps you are also referring to need for getting interpreters' voices out to the live group in addition to the online. I haven't tried that yet, but can see it will be a challenge. Seems it would need having a dedicated computer set to hear language of the live audience. And if that audience is also mixed language - another level. Was looking at interprefy for that..

      @@srbh41413 keeping in mind that zoom is meant to be used on a computer as you said. I'm expecting either an upgrade or maybe a third party software will eventually emerge to better accommodate mixed\hybrid meetings since covid-19 and it's ramifications are here to stay at least for another year
