    Beautiful cabinets and kitchen. Only dislike is the stove on top of the quartz countertops. I wouldn't mind it on a granite, but a quartz will more than likely begin to discolor and bubble by the end of the year due to the heat. Granite will not do that. Amazing kitchen and layout. Love the secret doors

    Some European brands have large marketing budgets and have showrooms located in pricey design districts. Modern design is now popular so the industry is going to cash in on the demand. You the consumer will pay for that. One of our Italian manufacturers offers a glossy finish in a level 1 price range so it can be achieved without spending 50k. There is additional cost for the integrated gola handle system, custom size cabinets to accommodate our US appliances, and for shipping. I'm sharing this for those who would like to do this on a budget.

    Matt. Who is the manufacturer of the tall pantry pull out units? Are they Dispensa by Kessebohmer?

    Hidden pantry was pretty surprising! The cabinet style and hardware look like a premium line from ikea. We love our ikea kitchen for a lot of the same cool stuff shown here - presumably for a fraction of the cost too.

    • @garethkalber7236
      @garethkalber7236 8 років тому

      +John Cote Yeah you can't compare ikea to this stuff. It's not even close. Ikea make a great product for the money and their target market but to compare it to this european setup not even close.

      @JohnCotePage 8 років тому

      +Gareth Kalber I'm sure you get what you pay for in terms of quality, (with perhaps diminishing returns), but from a functionality/style stand-point, if anyone is looking for a vey cost effective way of getting a Euro kitchen, Ikea is something to seriously consider! Ours was about $150/linear ft. We have had ours for two years and would definitely do it again with perhaps some custom adjustments to the cabinet boxes.

    Which brand is comparable to the now defunct Alno cabinetry?

    • @W4ldgeist
      @W4ldgeist 4 роки тому

      Most known German/Swiss/Austrian companies build to the same standard Alno did. That's also one of the reasons they went under. High prices for a product, that people could basically get everywhere. If you buy present day IKEA kitchen cabinets, they are on par with Alno bodies too, even compatible in the measurements.

    This is why I quit my Fine Homebuilding subscription, they began to focus on million dollar homes that no one could ever afford. Matt, seriously, this house is beautiful, but how prevalent are houses like this? It's one this to show a new technique for a process, but that kitchen is easily $20k+.

    • @dynajenenterprises
      @dynajenenterprises 8 років тому +1

      +Seth Tezyk I'm not saying you can't take away techniques, but I am recommending to know your audience. How many builders build million dollar homes (and watch UA-cam videos about them)? There is only so many Ferrari's you look at before going home to work on your Camaro. And ultimately, the work manual on the camaro is what impacts you the most, not seeing what new engine Ferrari put in thier car.

      +Travis Jensen Kind of like saying someone who is a car enthusiast and goes to autoshows and likes to browse specialty auto forums should not try to understand the details of a Tesla supercar when he needs to go home to change oil in his Prius. To a large degree Matt is offering a 4 minute look at optimum solutions, not necessarily for builders but for potential clients. The fact he can compress the overview into 4 minutes rather than 20 is impressive also.

      Travis, I hear you. Yes I do typically build expensive houses but I often talk about techniques and materials that could be used in a budget build too. Stay tuned in 2016 as I have some really good Building Science topics on the books. Merry Christmas and Happy New Years! Best, Matt

      +Matt Risinger Thanks for trying Matt. I can appreciate new and modern techniques, and cutting edge ideas and building science, it just gets frustrating when you are researching new ways to improve what is the house most Americans can afford to own/have built, and a focus on houses that only 10% of home buyers can afford. I do enjoy watching your vids and I do take away many things. But, when a sugatsune hinge costs more than a solid core door, things can quickly get out of most builders price range. Just wanted to bring up the topic. Thanks for the videos and have a good Christmas.

    • @buildshow
      @buildshow  8 років тому

      +Taras Ilnitskiy You can expect a European Kitchen brand to run $600-1000+ per Linear Foot. Miele appliances are not much more than Kitchen Aid or another domestic brand.

  • @SoleilRoiLe

    Only one dishwasher in a high end kitchen?

    • @Candisa
      @Candisa 6 років тому +1

      SoleilRoiLe What's the problem? I am the kind of cook that uses quite a lot of bowls, utensils, pots, pans... every single day, yet I've actually downgraded from a 60cm/24" (EU standard) dishwasher with a cutlery drawer to a 45cm/18" one with a cutlery basket, which rarely runs more than once a day. However I did upgrade from a basic brand to Siemens, so I don't need to leave 1 slot gaps between plates, I can actually use the little shelf to stack coffee cups on top of eachother, semi-overlap tupperware... and still have everything clean in fast-eco mode.
      When I do prepare a 3+ course dinner for 6+ people, I just run it twice or wash my formal glasses and silverware by hand.
      Why in earth would somebody spend money on a redundant machine that eats up valuable space?
      Go ahead, walk into your kitchen and rearrange everything to have a free closet. IF that works in a way that doesn't make things less practical, go to your pantry and other storage spaces in your house and write down everything that actually belongs in a kitchen, can you fit all of these things in your kitchen without using that one closet?
      Most people who didn't just move from a home with a smaller kitchen will already fail step 1, most of the few left over won't complete step 2.
      A kitchen with 2 dishwashers, 2 full-size ovens, a steamoven, a cappuccino machine, a plate warming grill... belongs in 2 kinds of homes: huge real mansions and cheap-bling mcmansions.
      A truly high-end kitchen isn't about that, it's about efficiency and quality: lots of counterspace and smart storage, strong materials, finishes that stand up to decades of moisture/stains/scratches/heat while being easy to clean and forming part of the overall architectural design.

    beautiful kitchen, but unfortunately Alno bankrupt now and we can't see any actions to bring them back to the market. Anyway, 5 other brands got the orders from Alno to support Alno's customers. So that's how German kitchen industry works.

    Constructive feedback. Please try not to take these personally or negatively. Your opening and closing smiles are a bit too forced, they come across as corny or disingenuous. Your jeans are way too tight, they are basically skinny jeans. I'm not saying that you need baggy-cut jeans - a straight fit or tailored fit will work fine.
