That was certainly the most disappointing aspect of this- it really looks like his chin made contact with the top of the other skaters head- he could have broken his jaw and had concussion and loss of consciousness should indicate the need for neck bracing (even if he was only dazed and only passed out at the sight of blood)
But that medical team didn't even look equipped when they did get on the ice to examine him. They just stood over him. And helped him stand, he was so shaky.
      Sub par.

😥😫 Yes.. A lot of people who watched it live at that time thought exactly the same.. It's really shocking and no.. it doesn't happen frequently :( That's why it's still so painful to watch. But 6 years have passed and nothing had changed.. The only thing we feel grateful for is that no other similar incidence happen again (Not at major events that we know at least). But if nothing had changed, this kind of accident is bound to happen again one day.. After all figure skating is a very niche sport with a small group of spectators and so International Skating Union (ISU) is always slow to adapt to change. We just wish that more and more people will be interested in this sport, raise awareness, stand by the skaters' sides, put pressure on them and force them to put more focus on the safety and fairness for the skaters..

So well said! The sportsmanship he displayed. When he was in such pain, his mind was still in Han Yan feeling sorry he had hit him. Han Yan too. No drama made. Just genuinely feeling sorry to each others. We just love them. What they didn't know is that their act in this competition would have changed many people's lives. From the post threads I follow, many many Chinese fans see Yuzu as their daily inspiration after this incident. Never give up. Never blame others. Always try our best no matter how tough things get. That's why despite the tense relationship between Japanese and Chinese, Yuzu is so wildly popular and well liked in China..

He really has the best heart, the kindest sunshine, a friend you always wanted. I remember Tracy Wilson said a story when Yuzuru was practicing in cricket club Toronto and some young skater wants to own the whole rink for his run through of program but Yuzuru and other students were practicing too, and Yuzu was on his pathway; then that young skater end up yelling to Yuzu but he just genuinely said his apology and will make way for the young skater. • @LakinMoser
      @LakinMoser 3 роки тому +9

Bulk doesn't equal strength. The kind of force it takes to whip around a quad requires an absurd amount of explosive power. The flexibility requirements of skating and the cardio involved in training just means figure skaters have denser and less bulky muscles than most types of athletes. Another great example of this is trampoline gymnasts. They look like twigs, but unless you're an elite athlete good luck getting even half of the height off a trampoline that they do. And that's if you've been taught the proper tech to get a good bounce.

"Is this how my skating career ends?" I can't believe how he healed himself spiritually after such a shocking thought for an athlete and artist like him. All he cared about at that moment was just skating and appearing in front of the audience.
After saying "I want to do it", it is incredible that he didn't give up and kept going even though he fell more than once while performing.
I felt so bad when she started crying after it was announced that she was the winner, it was so emotional.
Of course, this event is a great misfortune, I wish it had not happened, but I always think that a good or bad event behind there is destiny. I think the way he behaved set a great example to the people.

It took us a lot of courage to revisit this incident involving our champion, Yuzuru Hanyu. Chinese Figure Skating Fans named this program - "Blood Stained The Phantom of the Opera" 【血色魅影 】. It's also the incident that converted almost all figure skating fans at that time into Yuzuru Hanyu Fans. He wasn't at all as well known as today. But, his love for figure skating, his sheer will to continue competing after such scary crash, still touch us deeply today. As there were many different reports but not many available in English/Spanish/Russian and he has a growing fanbase internationally, we often bumped into people commenting "What really happened? Why did he cry? Why didn't he withdraw?" etc etc kinda question. After reviewing all, we decided to make a special documentary about it, to bring you the full view of the entire incident. (Turn on cc to see the subtitles, available in English / Chinese / Japanese / Russian / Spanish. For other languages, you can try using google auto translate in the cc functions. If the translation is too off, feel free to let us know and we will try to include the new language as much as we can) So How did the accident happen? What were the discussion points? What was Hanyu thinking at that time? We wish everyone watching will be inspired by Hanyu, the true Champion. And remember - there will always be something unexpected happening in life (COVID-19 for example). But, no matter how difficult life gets, don't ever give up.

Thanks for the doc. For the first time, you showed what happened in the collision from a few angles. I only came across the amazing Yuzuru Hanyu recently. From footage I saw previously, I'd never been able to understand what happened. What you showed was horrifying! Smashing your head on the ice or someone else's head - is NOT a small injury. American football, boxing and other sports etc. where the players' heads are subjected to trauma, still haven't woken up to the harm it causes the brain later. Yes, younger people can heal pretty fast, but older people realize later in life that their earlier damage may show up later as dementia. This is something sports organizations need to re-evaluate. My own head collided with a squat bar resulting in a concussion. (I know they determined Yuzu didn't have a concussion, but if he couldn't get up for a while, there was something going on. There is no such thing as a "mild" concussion!) I could not ever imagine having to skate and spin my head around as Yuzuru did! He has super-human determination because he's living in his Ikigai (life's purpose). My heart broke into pieces after he got the score and he collapsed into a flood of tears, realizing how much his body hurt and how he could finally release the competition stress. Thank goodness for his support team around him!

Reading your comment makes me emotional as well.. For the past 6 years, whenever I felt down, the image of Hanyu shouting to the sky saying "I want to Jump" would appear and somehow I found the courage to continue working on what I'm doing again.. So when I saw in the original Eurosport video where the whole incident was not captured and people questioned on him crying feeling he's weak, it broke my heart. Also when I saw some comments of people saying they admire his accomplishment and sometimes even felt jealous of his achievements, deep down I was really thinking "You don't know what he had been through.. If yes, it's not his achievements you will admire, it's his real fighting and never give up spirit.." And yes we still get emotional revisiting this accident again and again. We hope it would never ever happen again to anyone. And we really admire his spirit and his words of wisdom.. So we want to make this video to tell the full story of finding courage to continue fighting now matter how difficult life gets, and to appreciate that life is beautiful.. Thank you 💕

@@FigureSkatingFan this is my first time seeing what actually happened coz the vid that I saw didn't show the actual accident so I was worried about how serious it was and when I saw him perform with a bandage (?) on his head and some bruises on his face, I trembled. And everytime he fell, I would only brace myself and cry so much that my mom got worried about me. I only knew him not so long ago so I was shocked that this happened to him and I still remember sobbing to my mom while saying "I wanna go there and hug him" (now I'm embarrassed remembering it 😅). It was really painful but it somehow gave me inspiration to do the things that I want to do and never give up on it. Seeing him fall and desperately standing up to continue made me realize that he had done so much just to be there and achieve his dream. He became my good example to work hard. When I'm in doubt or wanna quit, I would think of him and then I'd go back to working harder. And that is why I love him as a fan. Thank you so much for making this vid.

He loves figure skating to the core of his heart, how can anyone not be touched by that?

I knew him just now... immediately fell for him (from watching his clips, then encountered this story through the comment sections)... but seriously... Watching this... I’m crying like crazy...
Why am I crying anyway?! I don’t know. It’s very difficult to explain. The fact that he got injured, it would be so painful for him. Once got a brain injury and I knew how painful (might not be the same case but similar; I imagined him having the same headache I encountered before. The pain was painful. Watching him stumbling, suffering to breathe, looking all pale and dumbfounded... made my chest stuffed I seriously had a hard time breathing for a while) must be but he still went on.
Oh God. The moment he laid on the floor. He thought to himself, “is this the end of my figure skating career?” For god sake. The horror. I can’t even imagine the feeling he had at that time... the sorrow that was filled in her heart... the anxiety went through his head.. right at the same time getting all the bleeding from the chin..
YET he managed to make it, he braced himself, the fact that he didn’t give up tho his life would be at stake at that time... isn’t that wonderful? God, what a wonderful man. He’s unreal. The only person I’ve ever seen being so encouraged, brave, and high-spirited. This story must have motivated and impacted so many people, including myself.
Yuzuru Hanyu, you’ve got my heart, my respect, and my empathy. From now on, I am going to cheer for you. May you get the best in your life, always be happy, and healthy.
