We had a 9 day power outage a couple of years ago. I used a cooler with icepacks that had to be replaced every 2 days and I used a 500 W power station to power a small freezer that I recharged daily. I now have a larger capacity power station and some solar panels so something like this could come in handy if ever needed.

Right on. I have a power stations for that purpose and finally bought a small gas generator for the cloudy/rainy days to recharge them. Thanks for commenting

Looks like it will serve you well this summer during your 2 week camping trip with your wife as long as you don’t need meat to stay frozen for several days. The company shouldn’t call it dual zone. For me you have to be able to control the temperature separately for it to be dual zone. One side shouldn’t have to rely on the other side for regulating its temperature. Since you didn’t pay for it it’s fine but if you had, you could’ve/should’ve returned it for a true dual zone. Thanks for sharing. Take care.

I agree on the dual zone definition. Will be sure to report back on how it works. Thanks for commenting

G'day Mark, ah yep, the ol' floating cheese, one of the most infuriating experiences one can have camping IMO. And furthermore, I'm 99.9 % sure I copped a nasty gastro as a result of cross contamination. So, ice = drinks only for me these days.
Btw I now use medical grade gel, (pillow type, blood transportation), jobs, in my "drinks" cooler, (out in the woods anyway), besides negating the mess'n around with ice, also came in very handy for a badly sprained ankle and it certainly means you need a smaller capacity fridge just for food.
And, yes indeed, powered fridges can be minefield in themselves.
    Personally, I went for a 3 way unit, i.e. AC, DC and LPG because;
Whilst there are many, many AC powered campgrounds here, (which I do love to use for a coupla extra bucks), .... you still can't plug into a gumtree anywhere ; )
and unless you've got a really robust set up in terms of 12 VDC power supplies, deep cycle batteries, solar and such, in my, (and my mates) experience, you can only guarantee a few days at best. Mind you, DC is good for on the way though, especially, as you so rightly mentioned, with an overnight pre-cool.
A LPG bottle, I'm tak'n for cooking anyway. My particular fridge has extremely low gas usage, think I've only done 10 days at a time max, but, doing the figures, should last up to a month in theory ...... if you're careful ; )
In any case LPG swap-over bottles are available here at every petrol station, hardware store, general store and even many camp ground "kiosks".
And yep the multimeter I carry on the road has a temperature probe, in my testing, within a degree C of true value, well, compared to other basic instruments, ...... close enough for me ; ) However, dedicated electronic thermometers are better again, since they'll do the internal probe temp and the outside temp simultaneously, so you get an instant indicator/comparison of how the fridge is performing in a given ambient climate.
Having said all that, its so variable alright, look forward to how you go with your own experience mate ....... that's the bottom line for everyone. Cheers Duke.
P.S. I dont have one for mine, I've always just draped a wet towel over the top in hot weather, (not that it lasts long without re-wetting), but I believe those covers some brands offer are worthy insulators.
Also, perhaps not a thing for you, since you keep yours in the vehicle, but for others, if you can be bothered to keep the unit off the ground, (they actually sell specific stands for the purpose), I got around an extra degree C benefit in the shade, but main thing to me is ........ less bending, .... its easier on the back ; )

Hi Duke, We used to keep our cooler on the picnic table. We would get up in the morning and food would be missing. One night, I heard a commotion and caught a raccoon in the act. lever little bugger was able to work the latch and open the cooler. Every little trick is worth knowing as well. Thanks for commenting

@@MarkYoungBushcraft Hahaha, yeah I can imagine mate, I've had a few encounters with marauding wombats and roos here. We should never underestimate their ingenuity. I wonder if they actually "recon" watch us, for a later raid ; )

Now that you have an electric cooler, will this make you the cool couple at the campground?…….sorry. If it takes around fifteen minutes for it to get to cooling temperature, that’s not bad. After all, your food isn’t going to spoil in fifteen minutes. That additional insulation sleeve is nice to have. I guess you can still use ice as a backup just in case.

I was thinking about putting a fan in it and use it as a air conditioner in the tent😆 Thanks for commenting

Did I miss it, or did you not give an opinion on how good a cooler it is without power. I can’t tell you how many trips that I’ve spent days under tarps in the rain with no way to charge batteries.

You didn't miss it. I believe it will work okay as a cooler but have not tested it that way. Will be doing so when we go camping with it. Thanks for commenting Jim

You did not miss it! This is a fridge (NOT a freezer, or freezer/fridge,) albeit a very low power consuming device! Wouldn’t hurt to use a few drinking bottles of frozen water to help cool it down! Nice cold drink when they thaw out! If you have a camp generator that may come in handy. Remember to minimize the opening/closing of the fridge to help keep out warmer air! Jackery may help prolong the cold as well!
