Any politician that puts their career ahead of the lives of American people should lose their job immediately. And that's exactly what stands in the way of doing some thing about this. Any American that puts the "right" for lunatics to possess assault weapons ahead of the lives of our children should lose their citizenship immediately.
If the police had acted in Uvalde,... If the school had followed up on troubled student at Sandy Hook, if his mother hadn't bought him weapons and took him to the shooting range, if if if. There's something else that needs to be done in these cases before these knee-jerk reactions. If the Texas shooter had not disrespected his drug addicted mother, and she put him out, if he had a relationship with his father, if school had reached out as to why he dropped out, if his friends had spoken up about his bizarre behavioral changes, if, if, if... nobody cared enough ... if if if. We care seemingly more about the unborn. Good luck once you're born.
You said it, Shirley. Visiting my mom in a nursing home, about every other day for 4+ years, it was evident that most elderly or medically disabled people have no one who truly cares about them. They are left to wither away alone. Those of us who visited consistently would engage strangers, talk and try to be kind. It was very sad.. And as a retired educator who came in contact with 10,000 students over my career, we all had interactions with "strange" and "alarming" children... but most of the time parental denial, legal blockades and/or administrators saying "let's give the child more time to develop and mature" simply kicked the can down the road. Again, distressing.
For over 200 years inalienable Life, Liberty, and Pursuit of Happiness (Declaration of Independence) rights have stood along side 2nd Amendment Constitutional rights without being in direct conflict over the massacre of innocent school children and increasing gun violence. How do we get back to balancing rights in a way that will end the heinous carnage?
Guns are not the problem. In 1952, when I was 10 years old, I had my own .22 rifle. Guns were all over the place. No one paid them any mind. And there were no mass shooting anywhere in the country. What changed? Not the availability of guns. What changed was the amount of stress in the culture. Restricting guns won't fix anything. You can kill people with cars, hatchets and knives. What we need is a serious cultural overhaul.
The reason 'nothing ever gets done' is because our flawed 'Democracy' allows minority opinion governing. 50% of the U.S. population is represented by only 18 senators, but 52 senators from the smallest states represent only 18% of the U.S. population. No matter what the majority wants, the minority can effectively block it with their wildly skewed senate representation. The same goes for a minority of the national electorate being able to choose the president and 800,000 citizens of DC not having any congressional representation. Our Democracy is deeply flawed and structurally undemocratic.
Photos of mass shooting scenes need to be shared with the public via legit media outlets. People are not going to be empathetic unless they truly understand the human carnage. Stop protecting lawmakers and shooters!!
Americans always talk about "the Constitution" as if it had been written by an all-knowing God. It had been written in a certain time (years ago) under the cultural, political circumstances of this time. So review it, keep what's relevant and good to our time and change/discard what's not.
@@shirleyashanti3031 of course the family members should be consulted. Yes I would give permission because it's important for people to be informed so they can get behind stopping this madness

Yeah Eric Holder was instrumental of Operation Fast and Furious, during said operation the ATF gave guns to mexican drug cartels those cartel members used those guns given to them to murder border patrol agents. I'll never vote Democrat again as long as I live.
Eric Holder’s description of the Sandy Hook’s children’s bodies jives with what my father’s best friend (a battlefield surgeon in Vietnam) described in his operating theatre.
This fixation on so-called rights and freedoms, without personal responsibility for the consequences of these bizarre and unnecessary appendages to what is merely just another constitution, and an outdated one at that, makes me glad that I have neither the need nor desire to visit the country. It's time to send all such citizenry to go live in Alaska, where they might actually need to carry a proper gun, rather than to play the big man in civil society. There are some seven or so abandoned towns that would be perfect for them.
@John Grigg, good luck with that. I fear that we will always have them around somewhere, but we do have a good chance of reducing the numbers out there. BUT, only if China and Russia agree to, China is right now massively increasing the numbers of nuclear weapons they have, and delivery systems. How many countries are now looking to acquire nuclear weapons after seeing what has happened to Ukraine?
@John Grigg, and that is part of the problem. Not everyone can, or will, "grow up" into a peaceful non-violent person. It will never happen in our lifetimes, it goes against so much of human nature that has been ingrained with us for the past 12,000 years. It will take a very long time to change our nature, unless someone will use great force to do so, and when someone wants to force you to do what they want to, what do you reach for?
Isn't it nice to have the man who OK'd giving guns to the cartels, (Operation Fast and Furious, which did nothing it was supposed to, armed the cartels more, and got innocent people killed), and was found in contempt of congress for destroying records related to that operation. talk about a problem that he helped make worse. We do need to have a conversation about firearms rights, violence, school shootings, ect, but one side is unable to have a rational conversation on any of those topics. Their solution is always, "Ban guns now!" which is an impossible fantasy, or to turn law abiding gun owners into felons overnight with terrible regulations and laws.
"one side is unable to have a rational conversation" Maybe that's because you haven't actually talked to any of your opponents, and have instead constructed arguments with them in your mind, i.e. a straw man of your own making.
The premise of " ban all guns" already tells me that common sense does not enter your argument. It is actually the type of armaments and the lack of any significant background checks or training that the MAJORITY of Americans are asking for.
@@mercedesmukati1451, wrong, the "majority" don't want that. You get that idea from the media, who cite a poll saying 90% of Americans want that, with a pool of a few thousand, from New York.
