just serviced my late father's 64 galaxie. It has been in our family since he bought it used in 73 for 250.00 cash. I drive it around every summer and it is fully restored. This video brought tears to my eyes. I'm sure my dad would have enjoyed it as much as I did! Thanks
jewllake My dad worked for Ford back then. These commercials remind me of him. You’re fortunate to have that car and the great memories too. Wish you the best.
I have rebuilt my 64 Galaxie 500 from bumper to bumper and I couldn't be more proud of her. She has a 390 engine with a cruise-o-matic trans. Most people call her a boat but so much fun to drive!
For the longest time my dad would only buy either 6 cyl or the smallest V8's available , mostly stripped Ranch Wagons (we were always a Ford family). All of our neighbors were climbing the status ladder with fancier cars. Then in '66 he bought a 4 door Galaxie 500 w/ Factory AC with the 390, but only the 2 barrel carburetor, and it was also strangled with the first year of the smog pump, remember those , but it was a first step. What ineffective POS's those pumps were. Finally in '68 he blew the family away by surprising my mom for her birthday with a loaded new T-bird (two door, Wimbeldon white and NO landau...yay...don't like those on the coupes) with the screamin' 429, and then doubled down 6 months later with a used '67 suicide doors landau with the 428 (in Brittany Blue..okay the landau worked on that one) and an exceptionally rich interior. LOVED those cars and as the teenage boy in the house, kept them showroom perfect. My parents drove those cars to the bitter end. I look back fondly on those days.
@@grandcrappy I’m like you , my dad bought whatever consumer guide said was the most economical. We had 2 different 4 door dodge darts both with 225 slant 6’s for the family car and a Toyota Corona for his commuter car. Dad thought I was an idiot when I bought a 70 mustang 4 speed Cleveland.
American cars are the best! I used to own one of these here in England, a 64 galaxie 500 4 door hardtop with a 352 and cruise o matic in Wimbledon white. My mate owns it now, I sold it to him 2 years ago. Still get to drive it now and again. Miss it badly.
Most car guys today have no clue about the FMX tranny. I had a few fords with this tranny. They went through hell. Never did fail. 3spd, cast iron case with aluminum tail, and bell housing.
That commercial is such a GEM‼️ The narrator is so classic for that period; everything sounded cutting-edge and exciting. And the cars - beautiful beasts ❤️
Whenever I see these ads, I want to desperately go back in time and live it! Such a different yet much more "livable" era. Like a friend tells me: You were made for the 60s! Not sure if it was a compliment, but I love the era!
I lived through those years as a child. Let's see...Vietnam War...civil rights conflicts...on the edge of WW III for years...is that what you want to return to?
Ya im with you. I understand they are better now but man just to hard to work on.... I’ve been a technician for 35 years and now you need a engineering degree to understand them
Me too, cars have so much nonsense now days such as a rearview camera & other computer stuff that shouldn't be in cars. I've been driving since the mid 80's & have gotten along without a rearview camera. Simple is better including the engine which were better than the computer engines of now days.
Great car. I had the '63 Galaxie 500 with the 352 V-8 and factory A/C, essentially the same car (exact same dash), which I bought from the original owner in 1977. Learned how to work on cars and do tune-ups on that sucker. The car was already "retro cool" to me then, and though my friends all called it the "Tuna Boat" because of its incredible size, they sure all loved to pile into it and go cruising!
Great video. Ford was the car of the year for 1964 according to MotorTrend! I always thought the Galaxie 500 was such a beautiful automobile! Thank you for the upload!
Oh man I love that red convertible!!!! This post is like a time machine taking us back to a simpler time. That ice chest they put in the trunk, we had that exact one back in the day.
The first car I bought with my own money was a 1964 Galaxie tudor hardtop. It was special ordered in the Thunderbird coral. No A/C though. GAWD it was hot in the summer with black vinyl upholstery!!
A businessman who loved drag racing had one of those back in the sixties and seventies with a 427 side oiler and 4 speed manual transmission with a low geared rear end used to win a lot of trophies with his back in the day!! I think that he just passed away recently!!!!!!!!
It surely was! The Ford Division was 1964 Motor Trend Car Of The Year. Then came the Mustang, and it was a smash hit! The Mustang was Pace Car at the '64 Indy 500.

I had a 64 XL convertible in the late 80s to the early 2000s. That car was the ultimate cross country cruiser. Across Wyoming I would runout of speedometer(120).
My other brother Frank bought a 64 Galaxie 2 door 289 V8 auto trans sky blue very clean for 500 back in the early 70’s. My other brother Willie bought 65 Galaxie LTD model 4 door for about 1000 about the same time, also very clean and nice...👍🏼😎
That is amazing that Ford recommended a 6000 mile oil change way back then! I was always told 3000 back when I had older cars and even today with advanced synthetic oils they recommend about 5000 mile intervals!
Motor Trend car of the year. The maintenance schedule was marketing hype: if you went 6K on oil the lifters get sticky and the valve seals will foul with the oil available then.
