0:52. The Class 86 + Mk2 stock, also had a Mk1 buffet car. On official duty, I used to have to cabride the Class 86, 90 and DBSO. But I never rode in a DVT.
Excellent contents and spot selection as always. I didn't know I missed those 86s til I saw this.
Many thanks, it's easy to take locomotives for granted until they get withdrawn.
Proper intercity services should be loco hauled. The FLIRT units aren't bad by modern unit standards (that is to say not brilliant) but they look and feel like cheap plastic toys compared to the mk3 and mk2 sets that went before. I'm glad at least the 90s live on with freight working and theres a handful of 86s that are preserved at least. I still think a properly refurbished mk3 set would have been the best option for the Norwich-London services though.
I worked the Caledonian Sleepers with 86x,87s,90s&47s. The 90s should've been kept on the Sleepers.
I could be wrong but I don't think the 90s are compatible with the new mark 5 coaches on the sleeper?
Wish there were more interchange facilities for Norwich trains at Stratford now that The Elizabeth Line is in operation.
Very interesting thank you.
@@LinesideSouthEast I was raised riding trains on the GEML. Born in 2001 I only just remember the 86s and class 312 slam doors before retirement. Class 321s always hold a soft spot in my heart though!
What? No video of a 745 being towed by a class 37?! (lol)
Great video; pity the old 86's have been "stored" by Freightliner now - even though they're not the same physical locos Anglia used. The 90's however are pulling their weight for Freightliner although it's odd they're (mostly) still in Greater Anglia livery. No tangerine orange for them I guess.
And - a bit of a sore subject for me - the class 755 regional Flirts; aka the shorter bi-modal 745's. Odd that they're bi-modal on regional lines never likely ever to be electrified - probably because the 4-car 755's are used for backup GEML use whilst the rest of us are left with 3 car 755's with basically the same number of seats as the old class 156's they replaced! It would, of course, be helpful if the 745/755 seats were as comfortable as the previous units...
Many thanks. The 745s always seem to behave themselves when ever I get to film them.
Freightliner still have some Class 90s in the old triple grey livery from the 1990s so I doubt they be in any rush to repaint the ex Anglia ones!
The 755s work Norwich to Stansted Airport via Cambridge service, which has a not insignificant part of it's route electrified. I believe theres was also talks of bringing back a direct Lowestoft-Liverpool Street service too.
@@86501freightliner I remember hearing about the direct Lowestoft to London trains coming back but it has gone very quite on that front so looks unlikely?
@@LinesideSouthEast For now, yeah I'd say it does. However, who knows what they might do in the distant future...
@@86501freightliner yes there is. Recently there was a 755 into Liverpool Street which was on test. There are definitely plans for this to happen from what I’ve seen. Will most likely be 2 755’s coupled together though. Maybe a three car unit and a 4 car unit put together
Thanks for a great video! Quick question - prior to electrification, what traction & rolling stock operated express passenger services? I'm guessing Class 47s and the same Mk 2D/E/Fs, but my ailing memory can't help!
@@LinesideSouthEast Was definitely the same coaching stock. However with the extra power available virtually all formations were strengthened by 1-2 vehicles. This ensured every Norwich turn was load 11.
47s and mk1 then mk2a b c then mk2 air cons or coffins as we called them. But before that class 40 31 and 37. Even in the dark days of wall to wall 47 a class 37 diagram always seemed to exist
I must admit that “Premieres” really annoy me and I wish that UTube channels would cease this growing practice .
My tribute to the Greater Anglia Class 90s
