For me personally, overpreparation or even just slightly more than minimal interview preparation increases my anxiety during an upcoming interview 10-fold. I don't always get a job with little interviewing preparation, nor will I always avoid all interviewing anxiety, but I am consistently less anxious and more confident on job interviews when I don't do more than bare minimum preparation. It's also way easier for me to problem solve and think on the fly in an authentic manner answering job interview questions that I may not have been prepared for ahead of time.
This also has the benefit of helping with negative emotions after getting rejected from an interview. I'll be less likely to feel as bitter about a rejection if less time was wasted in the job's process.

These are ALL very valid points. Another thing to ask to make it more obvious is: Do you see me as a good fit to this position? Those who love you or very interested in hiring you would NOT hesitate to tell you that you would be a good fit. Those that give wishy-washy answers are not going to hire you. Given you need to be quite confident to ask this question, but that's what makes you stand out from all the other candidates. To show you are a Go-Getter. The more interviews you have accumulated, the more you learn to read SALES signals from hiring managers. Usually I already know if I get the job or not on the spot, maybe cause I like to close the deal :)

Nice video! I had an interview today and thought it went well.
It was an hour; we interviewed for 1 hr 1 minute 😂.
She asked plenty of times if I had questions after lengthy explanations and at the end.
One thing I listen for is “we” and language in the present tense. She followed me on this. She used lots of WHENs instead of IFs, then she just changed it to “if”.
Lots of smiling and polite communication. She let me know why she liked certain answers. One answer I don’t think I wowed her on. I could tell.
She did more talking than me. It seemed more informative than an interview. She was explaining what “we” do, the culture, who we’ll talk to and support. I think this is a dead giveaway but I’ll wait on you.
FYI, I’ve applied for positions with this company 7 times! Once I spruced up my resume I moved through the process and passed the assessment, the digital interview, and moved to today’s live interview.

I got the "We have other candidates" once, and I actually think that this was the most respectful decline I ever had. That was for a small part time job in a small hardware store as a university student. The boss and I got along pretty well, and he eventually was like “you know, I’m looking for someone to support the team a bit when we’re low on staff, and you never did that kind of work before, so I would rather hire one of the other candidates that doesn’t need training since training you would kind of defeat the purpose of why we’re trying to hire someone. So, I like you man, but I think we won’t hire you”. I think that’s the proper way of declining someone. Respectful, honest, and based on an understandable, rational business decision. Not like the usual e-mail that just tells you “no” with some business phrases; telling you essentially nothing about why you’re not getting this job.

@@BenTalksTalent I also really wished that supervisors and managers would just be honest with me. No BS-just tell me how it is even if it’s bad. I feel like I waste so much time and effort trying to translate what they’re actually telling me between the lines. It was a particular issue with a supervisor at my last job. He would lie to me about the most stupid things about the job, even when I 100% knew he was lying to me.
I’m out of that situation now, thankfully but I’ll always wonder why he did it. Most of the time I could figure the reason for his lies. Usually it was to gain my cooperation with things that I didn’t want to do and the employment laws prevented him from forcing me to do it, such as overtime. For example it’s really close to the end of my shift and the final aircraft we’re supposed to clean before the end of the the shift was delayed and now it’s too late-my shift would end part way through cleaning it. Since there’s no point going to it because by the time all the equipment (aircraft stairs, water and lavatory trucks ect) is in place and the passengers have disembarked I would have to leave to go back to the crew room to sign out of the electronic sign in/out machine then go home. So because I’m not the only one whose shift is about to end and the supervisor doesn’t want to be short staffed, he lied to us in claiming that we had to stay and do overtime whether we wanted it or not. Basically trying to force us to stay on to help finish off that final plane. Fortunately I knew my legal rights which dictate that employers can only ask employees to do overtime and cannot force them to do it. He didn’t like it but backed down after my polite reminder.
On another occasion I’d been treated really appallingly by management and the supervisors who didn’t do anything to help me when the chronic short staffing meant I was the only person on duty all night despite having had 24 hours to find me help or come do it themselves. So I made discreet negotiations with another company that did the same aircraft services and arranged to transfer there. A week later the supervisor claimed that he was also going to go to the rival company and offered to put in a good word with their hiring manager because we’re friends and he has the connections.it didn’t take me long to figure out that he was simply trying to find out if I’m going.
      So slimy, he was.

It's been my experience that if they want you, they let you know right away (within a day or so). If they don't want you, you won't hear back from them. It's sort of the opposite experience when you go in to the doctor's office for an exam. If everything is good, the doctor will wait a week or two before telling you. If there is a problem, they let you know right away.

Hi! This is tough, because up until them not reaching back out, it sounded like things were going great! But, what I see in recruiting is that things change and they change often. I would say it’s likely that one of two things is happening. 1. Something has changed, maybe they are no longer going to fill the role, maybe they are changing the role or they have paused hiring for the moment. 2. They are just taking their sweet role. It’s a bit of a yellow flag to me if they reach out in a week or two after informing you to be honest. Good luck! Let me know if you have any questions!

Sometimes the issue is that the requisition is approved, but only grudgingly. That's a low chance of _anyone_ getting hired--a variation on the 'we haven't figured out this position yet' red flag.

Had an interviewer invite me to a second interview with them and the team. That same interviewer left my interview to grab lunch.....Their team didn't even read my resume, but proceeded to judge me when I highlighted my experiences. Got a phone call from HR saying I was one of the finalists before hearing that the position went to someone else. Then I got recommended for another position for that exact same team that rejected me. The person that interviewed me said he'll talk with that same team....Didn't get the job. Thought maybe something was wrong with me. I would say my resume is pretty strong, but perhaps I'm not the best interviewee. But I found your channel a few minutes ago. I had an interview on Friday for ER nurse. It was scheduled for 30 minutes, and it went for about an hour. They didn’t ask me many “typical” interview questions. It was more of them explaining the role and what to expect.
One person had her camera off but did turn it on half way through. I felt as the interview went smooth. Also halfway through, they explained what my schedule would look like. As I have no ER experience, I would need additional classes. All fine until they said we’ve only ever hired nurses with ER experience, but these classes are new thing they’re doing…. Not sure if that’s a good thing for me or not…
I asked how long and what they liked about their job. All 4 of them gave genuine reasons why. At the very end, they mentioned that they still have 2 more interviews to complete but I would hear back in a week. Your video does seem spot on from my past interview experiences! At the end of this interview, the big boss didn't ask me if I have any questions at all, and neither did the other two - this is too awkward. It's been already 8 days since the last interview, but I haven't heard from any of them yet. What about when the person you've been communicating with during the interview mentions they've been approved to hire after previously mentioning even though they're on a hiring freeze they'd help a candidate out? Had an interview and I don't do well in interviews in general, the person to person interaction however coming from a remote background in event planning...I'm confident in myself. In person interviews though...I get overwhelmed and because of how excited I was I did get overwhelmed. Someone else came into the interview other then who I spoke with for several weeks...who it felt like instant judgement without knowing my personality.
Went to another interview within the same industry and personally...that person I believe they could see I was being genuine with them with things like helping out with my family, etc. Even brought up pay/moving forward. At that place given the day prior, I wasn't as overwhelmed if I may.
Had been really hopeful the first company I interviewed better. It's not every day and quite literally the first time I've ever been able to see things in person like a road case, etc being fabricated. Plus my teeth had me extremely nervous. I can guarantee you who I had been talking to if they chose to move forward if I got to work one of the jobs they mentioned they'd see an emotionally happy person. My interview lasted about 35-40 minutes but there really wasn't too much discussion just them showing what they do. Makes me wonder had I taken in with me some of what I enjoy doing, showcasing it would I still have gotten that vibe from the person who came in later on.
Another company about a month ago...same sort of industry maybe slightly different but similar...I had gotten that vibe that you mention them not having it together.
May I ask...because where I'd like to work did try selling me as you mention. Prior to mentioning they were approved to hire I had mentioned briefly I had another interview. Which I went to because I wanted to see which would be better...the company I'd like to work for pays less but in my genuine opinion there's a ton of a lot more opportunity. How to move forward, if for instance the person who came in later on perhaps has some doubts after I struggled to answer a question regarding something that has always meant a great deal to me. I was that nervous and excited. I've sent several screenshots of my work hopeful if that person had any doubts...they shouldn't be concerned and that by hiring me they really are hiring a person who's sincerely interested instead of a person who applies because it's a job. If that's what I was after I could just go into a local subway for instance where it would strictly be just for a paycheck and not personal growth and development.

Hi Ben. I'm having a problem where sometimes I would get interviews, get good signs that I may get the job, but I don't get hired. I'm almost convinced it's because of my bad online reputation. I was involved in a high profile court case and made a mistake that attracted various media outlets. I do not have a criminal background but people think I do. I had to do some community service. I've hired a reputation company to get the information off of the internet, but it's taking a long time and a lot of money.
I'm starting to think that maybe I should just bring it up in the interview and give my side of the story or put it in my cover letter so they know up front and won't be surprised learning about it later on their own. But i'm at the point where I think that's way too risky. I don't know. A name change is out of the question.
    Any advice?

I had a virtual panel interview with a company. It was scheduled for 45 minutes and lasted about 35 minutes. I was also told at the very beginning of the interview that it was going to be a very informal interview and that they weren’t going to be asking too many technical questions. They had me explain my back ground at the beginning and than the rest of the interview was pretty much them doing a lot of explaining of what the role consisted of. I chimed in when I felt it was appropriate to explain to them how I felt qualified but I also did not want to interrupt them while they were talking since it was virtual. In the end they told me they had a few other people to interview and that they would let me know at the end of the week. What do you think of this experience?

As a hiring manager one lesson I learned far too late is that hiring no-one and leaving the spot vacant for a while is so much better than making a bad hire.
My personal number one tell that I am not going to hire you is if several times during the interview I ask you essentially the same question, but with a different spin. What I am signalling is that you completely failed in answering a really important question: does this mean I asked it badly, or do you not meet the core competencies for the role? Here's another chance.

Is there a way to figure out during the interview if when they say this whether they really mean it? I kind of feel being told "We still have a lot of candidates to interview" would be preferable as the expectations are lower.

I read some of the comments, and one person stated ITS NOT THE INTERVIEWERS ITS THE H.R. THAT MAKES THE DECISION. Those weren't the exact words that were said, but my point I wanted to make is after the interview, and it's taken to the H.R. the one who interview has to tell H.R. something based on how the interview went. Another thing is I see it as a problem to base the interview off of someone who is not a good speaker but is a really good worker. Then, if they call ur last job, I believe they are only supposed to ask if u have worked for that company and how long, but I think they ask other questions there, not supposed to. The previous jobs lie because if they know u a good worker, they don't want to lose one of their best people. I'm in the mist right now watching it happen to a friend of mine she is a very good worker and got degrees, but they won't hire her. They don't like it when ur just as smart as they are😂
