  • In the month of July, 2024, Wednesday night City Center dharma talks are being replaced with a series of salon-style discussions about Eihei Dōgen’s “Busshō” (Buddha Nature) - a fascicle from his “Shōbōgenzō” collection. Gengyoko Tim Wicks, Kim Kōgen Dai-Hō Hart and Dōshin Dan Gudgel lead brief presentations on the text followed by group reflection.
What did Eihei Dōgen mean by Buddha Nature? Can it even be discussed given the limitations of language and the primacy of silence as an expression of emptiness in Zen practice? Buddha nature, a seed that sprouts into awakening, the pure essence of reality that underlies the conventional world, the inherent possibility of enlightenment - these are just a few possibilities. But what is Buddha Nature to us in the 21st century? Recorded on Wednesday, July 3, 2024.
Note that, due to some technical difficulties, there are two small gaps in the recording.
