Another great video ;) It is interesting to see the pages where you try your different tools on the paper !

Thank you! I like to keep a section of my sketchbooks for testing materials. Its quite satisfying having it filled up by the end of the sketchbook!

I just discovered the Talens sketchbooks and agree they're fantastic, especially for the price point! I don't mind the paper buckling too too much, so ive been using it a lot for ink washes, and I love it for those :D
I also looove smooth paper sketchbooks, so thanks to you, it looks like I'll be in the market for a Hahnemühle Cappucino :') beautiful linework btw!

I am also doing a lot of pose studies. I bought 9×12inches Sketchbook. I am glad I did. I though it will be sittingin my desk forever but I ended up grabing it most of the time.

I also enjoy my bigger sketchbook for my figure studies. It's difficult to take out with me but I use it plenty at my desk.

WOW thank you so much! This helped me out a ton!❤ I have one question though did you notice the moleskin worked better with watercolor than talens art?
Anyway thank you so much! Defenitly will be subscribing

Watercolour works about the same in both imo, though the warmer paper of the Talens does tone the colours more. Best for sketches with light washes, and only adding layers after letting each layer dry fully. I've since been using gouache in the Talens and it works well for sketching and studies as well. I haven't been able to test gouache in moleskine yet but I imagine it would be similar too. Thank you for watching and commenting 💜

Nice comparisson!! What’s your fav after all? 💫

Honestly that's a hard choice! Part of why I showed all 3 in the video 😂 If I absolutely had to pick one then I'd have to say the art creation. The price point for quality fits my needs well enough while not being intimidatingly expensive. I'd happily plough through a hill of art creation sketchbooks with no guilt for the price (and I do lol). I love the Nostalgie for mixed media, and it's heavyweight and whiter paper can handle a lot more, but it starts edging into feeling slightly intimidating to messily play around in compared to the art creation!

Hello! Thank you for an interesting and informative video 🥰 Can I ask, which moleskin book is that you have there? Is it an Art Sketchbook? 😊

Heya! I'm glad you enjoyed it! The moleskine in the video is a 13 x 21 cm Art Collection Sketchbook, hope that helps! :D

thank you so incredibly much! May i ask, does the nostalgie accept many or several layers of coloured pencil?
Your art is absolutely gorgeous!! thank you so much for the reviews and comparisons !

    • @daenafae

Thank you so much for the thoughtful comment! The nostalgie paper is very smooth, but does still have some tooth to it to accept graphite and colour pencil layers. The closest comparison in smoothness and tooth would perhaps be Bristol paper or Epsilon by Stillman and Birn. Good for a couple layers of coloured pencil and detail work, but probably not for really heavy layering. I've been using heavier applications of graphite with it, but not coloured pencil so far so I'll have to do some experimenting myself!

@@daenafae oh gosh ! Thank you so incredibly much for your thorough reply! May i ask, do you mean strathmore 300 bristol smooth or vellum? Or strathmore 300 mixed media? I really am SO incredibly sorry for all the questions! and thank you so much!!

@@PaigeEscapes No worries, I'm happy to help! I'd say it's closer in feel to the strathmore 300 smooth Bristol paper 😊

I don't agree that the Talens, have the same paper like Moleskine. Talens is Cream tone,Moleskine is Ivory. The tooth is smoother on the Moleskine as also the quality is night and day.Quality of the paper is the huge difference and then the tooth and the feel while drawing. It takes me 2 to 3 times more time,to feel the tooth on the Talens. PS I probably own the older Moleskine, that used to come with Ivory tone and better quality papers.I've heard that they now make them different.

Thank you for sharing your experiences and preferences! I agree on most points, particularly the cream colour and the tooth differences. I did a full review of the Talens recently and compared it to a Moleskine in the video, and then showed examples of different mediums on the Talens paper. The paper of the Talens is more cream, which I show side by side with the Moleskine. While I like the paper of the Moleskine for some media, the price point to quality of the Talens makes it good enough for me as a dry media sketchbook based on what I'm looking for right now. Especially for studying. For the price point of Moleskine I tend to prefer other more mixed media focused sketchbooks at this point, since the Talens fits my needs for dry media sketching. My experiences with the binding of the Moleskine sketchbook falling apart has in part led me to not invest in another as of yet.

Do you have a favourite sketchbook for ink drawing?

    • @daenafae
      @daenafae  Рік тому

For ink drawing I prefer smooth white paper, so the Hahnemuhle Nostalgie, and Stillman and Birn Epsilon are good choices for me. For sketching with ink I don't mind using the cream paper of the art creation sketchbook, I just have to be careful which pens I use with it. Hope that helps!
