After the battle of Jing Dynasties, the royal priest Jing Qing and his wife are killed. Their oldest daughter Sun Ruowei (Wei Tang), is saved by the vice-general Sun Yu. She tries to avenge her parents but meet Zhu Zhanji (Yawen Zhu). After she sees the dark side of Ming politics, she decides to give up on her revenge and help Zhu Zhanji become the Emperor to save Ming Dynasty.

He was a terrific prince..so thoughful and mindful. Zhu Zhanji was so broken inside. Empress Sun was too little demostrative I think.
Whatever the throne did to emperors hey! Because even when studying the Korean history as well, the throne really drove em mad and constantly in fear of their court and the harem. It truly was tough to be a leader.

What was so sad, was the Emperor was going to give the throne to the 2nd brother, the crown prince didn't want it. The 2nd brother was so ambitious and undermining, he screwed himself out of the throne. Had he not betrayed his father's last expedition, it would have been over in the predicted time, The Emperor would have returned home, and proclaimed him heir to the throne. Zhu Zhanji would have never been Emperor.
Poor Zhu Zhanji. He was so broken inside and alone. Even Sun was lying to him, and he knew it. He knew only his father and grandfather could protect him from the world, and they were gone - and on top of that he broke a promise he's made to both of them. Poor Zhanji :( He didn't have the right person by his side, Sun and Hu were both deceitful.
How was Sun deceitful?

The Empress is dumb to pardon her younger sister..the younger sister is too ambitious a d evil
She is too soft-hearted, and doesn't believe how evil her sister is. If she wants her son to be the successor, then she should not have brought back her sis and Yuqi. Her actions are a bit contradictory.

It's really disappointing if the emperor died cause he is been suffering too much just for the people have peace ☮️ he needs to enjoy the peace as well.
Rouwei sounded so sincere here towards the emperor but down the line we see her with Xu Bin before death and after death. Exactly who did she have in her heart? These directors confuse us
I think Rouwei learned with age to really love and appreciate Zhu Zhanji. I think she loved him more after his death when she had the time to fully appreciate everything he did for her and for the empire in her benefit as well. He loved her like few emperors loved.
Her love with Xu Bin was a platonic love ..... nothing romantic
I like the 1st episode and 39 episode of this drama but I will finish it as it has Lay Zhang from EXO even though he doing solo stuff and conflict between China and Korea

The Emperor probably had lingering health issues stemming from his serious injuries during the battle with Mahumud the Oirrat King.
Remember he punctured his lung in battle. That was his down fall.
A human..so broken cause he grew up with so much love. He had a dear father, a lovely mother, a good grandpa to him and he loved.a commoner ..life broke him apart more that he could ever envision before growing up once the elders left him alone.
I don't like he just give up, in the long run he is weak.don't think I want finish watch the rest of the episode

He seems to be showing all the signs of a mental breakdown with severe depression. Also add all the hidden complications of his many injuries. The dizziness was probable from being hit in the face and head (a direct hit to the brain and nervous system) in one of the battles with a battle sledgehammer (remember that scene). Arthritis will add to his “moving is difficult/hurts”. So we can honestly say his body has gone to hell and back. He is like that from all the stress he put himself through. Let’s also add mental stress from all the disjunctional people in his life (mostly his so called love ones).

The Xuande Emperor is generally regarded as the best of the Ming emperors. He died in 1435. The dynasty continued until 1644. The Yongle Emperor, the grandfather in this series, has nothing like his grandson’s reputation.
Had nothing like his grandson's reputation..I'm surprised this grandson that is a whimp after all...I thought he was strong and formidable what nonsense is he doing now...am so pissed with his character right now...is it the death of his Uncle or what the people are rumouring about him that's making him like this...oh he has changed my mood...such a disappointment. Am asking what's the lesson from this story....

Why he has died so early?
His life is lies and treachery. Probably tough to stay alive then. Fact is, only like 3 Ming emperors lived past 40, so they all died pretty early. Their family stock is just not very good.
To my understanding he was severely wounded in the chest.
Actually if you read historical articles, 40-45 years was considered old age for that time in history. That’s the life expectancy for that time. Women even died earlier than the men. Child birth attributed to that low life expectancy by 10 years. Many women died in their teens. As time progresses, health care got better, life expectancy age went up.

@Alex Border That's true. As China got older, they stopped taking their slaves with them. However, their wives went with them. Empress Wu, (exception) was the nanny to the Emperor, and wasn't taken to his grave with him, but later became Empress behind a pearl curtain
