Octopus: Am I not the most alien thing you’ve ever seen?
Cat: Indifference.
Cat actually seemed quite uneasy about that creature!
@@viddeliten Did the kitten though? Was just a "whats this? ... ah, can't smell it. Is behind glas. I don't care ..." while the octopus just WANTED TO PET THE KITTY, obviously :D
@@Commandelicious Cat definitely noped the fuck outta there once it noticed it towards the end.
The cat clearly saw the octopus before.
1:02 how the 2 eyes slowly come up to watch the cat! LOL!
Same!! So funny :D
A rock with two eyes LOL
It was so cute & funny. Too bad the cat barely made eye contact with the octopus. Did it wave goodbye to the cat?!🤣
I literally can't believe I'm saying this about an octopus, but that was so cute 😂
I also thought that it was both cute and funny ! 😄
Octopus- “It only has one tentacle”.
THIS
An octopus has no tentacles. They are called arms. Tentacles only have suckers at the tips, like on a squid or cuttlefish.
@@JohnJackson-mn4ts he means this is what an octopus thinks when seeing a cat's single
tail tencle
🤣🤣
could you see him laughing :)))) , well from a safe distance ;)
The octopus finally realized what we already know: cats don't give a damn. 🤣😂
Good one...True
I loved the way he hid behind the rocks and than slowly his eyes popped back up. Also when the cat fell asleep he became very brave and spread himself out! He completed the picture with a cheery wave at the end. Perfect!
"What the heck is THAT thing? I shall go back to my hideout and secretly observe it!"
_a pair of eyes pops out from behind a rock_
Perfect.
I think he was copying the movement of the cat's tail. Extremely intelligent!
Ye I thought the same @@scootermom1791
1:10 Omg - the 2 eyes peeking out of the rocks 😂😂😂
I laughed at the too!!
Octopus: See, I hide back here, then when that 'thing' isn't looking I strike! What? I said I strike! Dang it, this force field they call glass is blocking my gigantic meal! And, it's ignoring me too, how insulting!
That was the funniest part! :))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
Sheer intelligence. Rudy was checking the cat out. Was he a threat or friend, best be leery
The cat woke up, turned around, saw the octopus and thought "OMG was that there while I was asleep???"
lol he knew it was there, thats why he chose that spot
Poor cat
Oh cats. They do not care at all.
The cat froze for a second with this, "Da FUG did I just see?!" expression... then got a grip and calmed down.
They seemed mutually disinterested in one another.
human reacting to octopus reacting to cat
flish0 me reacting to a comment a human made reacting to an octopus reacting to cat reacting to nothing bc it’s a cat and that’s what they do .. 😂
@@breAnnasmama You win!!!
@@sabrinafelber yep
Get the octopus outside of tank onto cat and observe.
We are easily entertained
The curiosity of the octopus is amazing. How quickly did it understand the position of the cat's tail, and then imitate it! Breathtaking!
Is that what it was doing? I was wondering what that was all about.
😱👻👽😹 yes... took him only 4 minutes to make me LMAO lololol
That was totally my favorite part at the end. Extremely smart animal!
It has eight hands and none of them are petting me. Guess I'll take a nap.
You own a cat don't you?
if they have 8 legs why are they called ten-ticles??
Excellent comment.

@@johnrice8786 I know.. it's a play on words... but also in the same vein.. October is the tenth month...
At the very end, that looked like an imitation of the cat's tail walking away.
That's what I thought too! Octopus figuring out how to become Octopussy? o.O
@@jeandiatasmith4512 😹😹😹
well octopuses are known for imitating other sea creatures, so maybe he was doing that?
but also it made me thinking that this little buddy waved goodbye to his new friend, i know that probably didn't happen but that thought made me smile
yeah they like to copy things
Imagine if the researcher came back and saw no octopus in the tank, just a slimy looking cat shape curled up on the bottom of the tank.
He seems to be impersonating the cat's tail at the end.
That was my thought precisely. He did exactly what the cat did at the end. Gotta love me some octopus 🐙
Yeah. Trying to impress the audience. O__o
@@nachannachle2706 And being successful with it :D
That's what I thought, too.
Hahah 😂 cat butt mimicking octopus hahaha
Cat: I could've sworn I saw something in that tank a few seconds ago... Oh well, I guess I'll take a nap.
Octopus is reacting to cat, but cat not reacting to octopus 😁
At the end the octopus imitated the cat’s tail exactly. 👍amazing ! 😁
How much have cell phones contributed to our understanding of animal behavior in the past decade?
So who is the real copycat?
Octopus recognized the tail as a communication device and responded with the happy greeting tail sign. Neat!
I thought the same thing...amazing!
He thought the cat was waving at him
Octopus is telling cat “see how much bigger I am than you!! Don’t mess with me”. 😂
Catherine Breitfeller me while the cats like ehh,, ima take a nap .. cuz I’m a cat ..
Oh my goodness!!!!
The cat tail at the end was utterly mind blowing! They are so clever.
The way it mimicked the colour of the cat was so cool too!
They’re amazing creatures.
Ocotopi rock!
H x
Yes! I love the way it almost immediately copied the cat's color as it slipped behind the rock!
When the cat laid down and the octopus came out, reminded me of how we would act when the teacher turned their back on us and we thought it was safe.😂
3:58
Octopus to Cat: So you just wag your tentacle like this and get treats? Easy!
Maybe he waving
Most oblivious cat ever.
Octie seems to make fun of it in the end. "Hey pentapus!"
OMG I almost peed my pants when suddenly his eyes peeked over the rock at 1:02
That was the cutest reaction ever 🤭
Agreed. I almost fell out of my chair laughing when I saw that.
What charming creatures octopuses are.a
That's great. Octopus seemed maybe scared at first - turning dark then hiding. But when the cat got bored and fell asleep, octo's curiosity came out. By the end he was imitating the kitty with an arm held high like a confident, happy cat's tail ! Of course that was after watching the cat stretching. Was he trying to get the cat's attention by this point ? 🤔 🐙 😼
Ann Y yeah that’s pretty much the play by play of exactly what we all just watched .. 😂
Octopuses mimic other creatures in their environment in the wild. Sometimes for defensive purposes. So it's never seen a cat before, and is observing to learn the cat's appearance, form, and behavior so that it can mimic that.
.
The cat's not even looking at the octopus, while the octopus is messing around.
Yeah. But later at around 3:40 she saw him the first time and you can see, how he gave her the creeps :D :D :D
I'm SO disappointed the cat didn't look around while the octopus was fully splayed out behind her.
Octopus is sizing it up even, measuring up how hard it would be to eat furry creature, then waving it's tail back at the cat in the end.
A cat and an octopus! Two of my favourite animals! 😁😁😁😁😁
1. That cat is adorable and fluffy
2. Did he just make a cat tail?!
Subtitle could have been - Cat doesn’t react to octopus
G. Anthony Benjamin hahahah Thats way more appropriate ,.. cat doesn’t react to anything it doesn’t want to ... including this ... hahahaha awesome comment !
Meanwhile, the other poor pus puts on a defensive posture and then tries to pet [or eat] the kitty. ;D
Hahaha. Actually, the cat is not entirely comfortable with the situation. Even when it is 'asleep' it is not relaxed!
@@justaminute3111 yea, when he turned around and saw it, he turned back around fast, like "ohhh shit!"
I was really, really hoping the cat would turn around when it was on the glass.
Octopus: flailing around behind the cat
Cat: ... must have been nothing
Looks like the even an octopus can't resist wanting to pet a kitty! 😎
I don't think he wanted to pet the kitty exactly, more like eat the kitty.
@@eboracum2012 You might be right. 😃
@@victoriawilliams2786 I just found this site. I get drawn in to watch it, like the aviation ones with ATC and pilot conversations. I do miss Kennedy Steve!
@@eboracum2012 I'm on the one for Monterey Bay Aquarium too. Octopus are one of my favorite creatures. If I can ever afford it I want my next tattoo to be of an octopus on my left wrist with tentacles wrapping around a couple fingers and my thumb. I'm thinking probably the blue wringed octopus.
@@eboracum2012 I just thought of another channel that might catch your eye. The vids are usually only a couple minutes long but interesting. It's called Megabatty I think I spelled it right. It's about people who rescue bats in the UK.

Cat: asleep
Octopus: every trick in the book
Looks to me Like he ended up imitating the cat's tail...unbelievable...😳😊👍
4:00 Me with every cat ever. "HI! ::waves::"
Wow what a reaction from the octopus - he was copying the cat's tail in the end wasn't he - and he seemed to know when kitty had fallen asleep, that's when he came out, danced around, made a big spectacle of himself - before hiding again!
But copying kitty's tail - wow, wonder what made him do that!
@Liza Tanzawa I get the feeling octopuses are even more intelligent than we thought! Can they read minds maybe...? It wouldn't surprise me! It looked to me like octo knew this was a kitty, even though he most likely had never seen one before!
I think he did it after the cat got up and stretched too. (3:20)
The cat stretches, then stands still with it's tail up
Immediately, the octopus sticks out two tentacles and holds them vertically with a curl at the end
Then the cat sits down and curls its tail down to the floor and little octo lays his two tentacles down the same way.
Maybe I'm reading too much into it tho.
Maybe the octopus is just wondering where the rest of this poor guy's tentacles are. lol
@@ev8870 Haha - no, I think octo knows kitty is not an octopus. Octopuses are very intelligent. But I'd love to know why he copied the cat! He must really love kitty, one doesn't copy someone who one hates. Fascinating! Maybe octos love cats...?
@@LittleKitty22 Octopods are indeed very smart. They communicate with each other through colour and body posture
The description mentions this octopus has never seen a cat before.
Maybe a cat's tail would look a lot like a tentacle to an octo.
So when the cat moved his tail, the octo thought this strange new creature was trying to communicate with him?
@@ev8870 Oh yes, you are right there! And so he communicated back! Amazing that is! It looks as if he is greeting the kitty by copying his tail - or saying "bye, see you soon again".
Octopus brains are one of the most intricate ones. They could basically do anything in the water and as well move on land whenever they chose to.
Love how the octopus just peaks behind the rocks however, my cat would be hi-fiving the tank 😂
Octopus was flexing on that cat.
yep
Everybody liked that.
💕I love the curiosity.
Man. I really wanted the cat to try and chase an arm to see what the octopus would do
I thought the same thing!
"Look over here cat, I'm the star of the show!!"
cat looks away.
it must have been unbelievable to him to see such a „thing“ walking on land. And at the end he emulated the cat‘s tail 🐈, i swear!
Ok, octopus is interesting but what amazes me is that the researchers got a cat to have a nap on astroturf right in front of the octopus’s hideout 😂
I like how four minutes in the octopus looks like he's waving goodbye
This was priceless. Please try again. I loved the octopus’ reaction. Thanks
My cat would face-plant into the glass
Liatka mine too hahahaha .. and not just once either hahah. He’d be stretched out with all paws on diff. Sides of the tank trying to stick a paw in and touch it , while also trying to be as far away from it as possible , yet as close to it as he could get without falling in 😂 I love cats !!! Omg ur cat sounds hilarious 💗never a dull moment with those precious little meowing dude !
@@breAnnasmama lol That's cute, cats are something special, I swear. :)
Was the octopus "imitating" and or reacting to the cat's tail at the end of the video?
It looked to me like the octopus was waving its tentacle to look like the cat's tail
I think so 😳. I’ve never seen on any octolab just using one tentacle.
I’m shocked.
@@knowyourlove5613 they are very smart creatures. It looked like he was waving haha.
Makes me wonder if it was an attempt to communicate with the cat
Perhaps it thought the cat was a deformed octopus (unipuss?)
I swear, at the end, I think he gave us the finger! LOL. Sleepy Kitty Sweet Kitty “Soft kitty, warm kitty, little ball of fur! Happy kitty, sleepy kitty, purr purr purr!” LOL Great test, I only wish I could read the octopus’s 🐙 mind!
it must have been unbelievable to him to see such a „thing“ walking on land. And at the end he emulated the cat‘s tail 🐈, i swear!
"Yum Yum,That's some delicious looking kitty calamari"🐙
Without a doubt the Octopus picked up a cat greeting ...the straight up tail with a shutter is a high hello happy cat wave ... amazing tentacle tail wave!
"I don't know what that is, but I feel like it would try to eat me."
When you're an octopus, the secret to a slightly less short life is to assume EVERYTHING that's bigger than you would try to eat you.
@@HaganeNoGijutsushi Also when you're a cat; they sense that they're "mid-level" predators and react accordingly, hence the cliche' term "scaredy cat".
He was like... "see the cat... Be the cat"
At the beginning when he changed color
The cat is is scared. Having had cats all my life, I can tell by its facial expressions and body language. It's not that the cat doesn't give a damn, it's nervous. Both species are wonderful.
Liked how Octo knew Kitty is a predator and hid...gained some courage, but still wary. As you should be Octo!!! 😸😺👍💙💙🐙
How you got the cat to completely ignore the Octopus blows my mind. And then when the cat realizes that thing was there during his nap and he didn't know it, priceless. 03:31 - 03:39
I wonder how an octopus would react to touching fur outside of the water? I got to go hands-on with an octopus once and she came partially out of the tank to explore jewellery and the texture of our clothes. She was SUPER curious and playful. Most enjoyable experience!!
Octopus with one tentacle up seems to be saying " here kitty, kitty" in evil voice😁
yesss
It wanted to touch the cat so bad once it got comfortable knowing that the cat wasn’t a threat! 😂 the best part when the octopus waved it’s tentacle as to say goodbye at the end.😊
When species that would never, normally collide... Not much. Oddly, curiosity wasn't much part of the feline.
@Liza Tanzawa Good point. Cats pay attention to totally different things.
I can't hunt it.
I'm not interested. 🐱
He's so unsure the whole time, but still has the courtesy to give a goodbye wave! 😍

"Awww....I just wanna pet the kitty!"
Love the music ... describes the octopus' attitude well 🐙. He even gave a "finger" in the end 😹😹😹
Great video! Great to watch how they think! The cat was completely uninterested, that was more surprising, thought for sure the cat would react to the tentacles.
Love the way he peeks over the rock to look at the cat.
OMG I love, love, love this!
whoever is putting the soundtrack to these videos deserves a round of appreciative applause!
Ha! Fantastic idea!
You took the right cat. Mine would have been before the window, tapping on the glass and making cat sounds: “he, I want to play”. Octopus would be traumatized by the cat. This one was so calm.
The cat didn't even bother to look @ the Octopus... LoL...
So adorable at the end how the octopus mimicked the cats tail.🐱🐙

haha octopus go brr
The eyes peeking out from behind the rock is hysterical!!
I'd like to see this with another cat. You know, just cos...
That octopus imitated the cat's tail waving...OMG!
Fascinating how octo seems to checking out the cat while maintaining the safe height, expand the tentacle to look big and try to reaching out with one tentacle.
Octo analyzing, measuring, and reaching with guts and curiosity.
0:32 ....I Taut I Taw a Puddy Tat....
I love the way he first cautiously peeked out from his rocky hideout. And also how the cat's tail seemed to catch his attention immediately when the cat stood up.
Yes I agree - the curl of the tail and arm is what fascinated me the most!
I would love to hear the inner monologue going on in that octopuses mind
Just amazing, would octopus react the same way if cat was a different colour, say ginger, or tabby, etc?

The octopus was really interested once the blue beauty lay down. I though it appeared to measure the cat. Loved the peeking at first, then the wVe at the end. Poor kitty was like WTH? Outta here!👍💞✌😷🎃
3:58 that was too good how they timed the music up with it stretching out its arm LOL
The feeling I got when the cat had settled in and the octopus gained some courage was that it wanted to touch the kitty, was curious about it. More I see of octos , the more I appreciate them.
I love how He mimickes the tail at the end
Love how it looks like cat ears poking out from behind rock in beginning & later how it seems to be teasing cat w/ "pokes."
How did they get the cat to stay exactly there and even take a nap?! At the end the octopus seems to say to the cat: "Look, I have a tail too!" 😸
Love how he peeks above the rocks 🥰
I'm surprised the cat wasn't more curious about the octopus.
It must be torture for such an intelligent creature to live in such a spartan environment. The cat was probably the big thrill of the day.
