This piece has always moved me. When we get to that rapturous climax, it's like something reaches into me and I just 'know'. Debussy for me has always provided these all-too-fleeting moments of complete clarity since I first heard the Faun 50 years ago. My hair stood on end yet again and this time I had tears in my eyes as well!
Yes, I love how he takes his time during the entire middle section at 2:24 and slows it down. This allows him to really extract the musicality out of it. Most pianists just power through this section thereby missing a lot of the subtlety.
@@m.a.g.3920 that’s an old comment, and I haven’t listened to this video in a long time, but yes, that’s the only section that’s 3 against 5 in the piece.
@@jtt6650in my opinion that part seems super dry and rhythmic instead of wavy as It should be... I do play this piece (still learning It tho, it's difficult). If you want to hear a surprisingly good version (IMO) you can try Jean-Luc Therrien's, very very good.
It isn't but I think this piano is a Hamburg Steinway. If you look at the casing on either side of the key bed this one is rounded whereas the NY Steinway is angular. My husband, who was a Steinway Artist, had just such a piano. It isn't counterfeit but is made in the Hamburg factory. He also had a NY Steinway so I've been able to observe well over the years!
@@nancyspada2240 The New York product now has rounded sheratons like just like the Hamburg. The new owners are bringing things in line with the German way. I don't like it.

Merveilleux pianiste ! Un jeu si souple et si puissant a la fois ! ❤
Proving once more to be the masters of the piano. Debussy snd Lugansky, what a pair.
This is absolutely beautiful. LOVE IT!!!
I love him 😍
fav interpretation of this peace so far
Me too
Just when I thought I could name my top ten interpretations of this marvel...
Bravo, maestro! 🙌
WOW
Lugansky is the best pianist of are time
The introduction of the main melody at 2:24 is so rich, dense, voluptuous, sensual, makes you want to hug a field of grass on a Summer day
a sense of heaven
Can you upload more about Lugansky?? I want to see his playing!!
성태규 absolutely
Effortless play.. 02:54 was incredible..

@@danneidlinger4511 Well said!
The song of Ulysses Sirens.
excellent performance, but the speed in some sections..
Too much you mean? The virtuoso parts seem too fast for my taste
is he Dendi's father?
damn
The polyrhythm 3 against 5 in the mid-section is not right and doesn’t set-up climax at all.
Which part do you mean? The wavy slow part?

@@jtt6650yeah, I know It was old but luckily you could tell me, it's a good thing about UA-cam, excuse me if It was odd to reply to a 2yo comment😅

If you say so, but I love it.
Nice playing, but this is a counterfeit Steinway. Henry Steinway made an AMERICAN piano.

Not enough legato.
