Western folks. A lot of this is taught in akharas for general public. This is adequate for normal fighting. In normal fighting, hammer grip strikes are attempted...no one teaches how to defend them. If you are dealing with a professional of course then you need to have had advanced training (training better than can be given for free on UA-cam).

I like the counter-counter far more than the initial counters that appear to me mostly less practical. BTW: subtitles would have been nice. I got the feeling that this wasn't even Hindi, so that I can't even ask an acquaintance for translation...

The open hand arm catch is extremely dodgy The stilted way it is practiced and the fact the Guy in orange has very little actual physical skiill makes this all dodgy . This is no comment on Indian martial arts Sanatan Shastarvidiya is one of the greatest Martial arts I’ve seen .

Just a hand stopping another hand that has a knife/dagger in it that is going full speed with power. Not even in comic books do they so this any more. Sure way for the knife fighter to win every time.
actually like the counter to the standing keylock or shiho type lock, starting at 2:15. Yes, the knife defense is lame and will get you seriously injured or even killed but the counter to their lock is actually decent. I had to stop watching after a short few more minutes it was driving me nuts watching that really bad knife defense that won't work. I give up.
I am an mma students studying every martial art but never found any Indian martial art quite practical enough,but this is totally applicable,it has reaction based movies , wrestling,and grappling,lot of pressure point and how to handle and control center of gravity of your opponent.(I know some of will of you comments about the kalari ,mardani khel or gatka as there r indian martial art but know this they r called martial combat like kento of Japan with uses lots of weapon )

these are ancient techniques from dhanur veda. used in thousands of wars throughout history from both internal and external enemies. and if a culture civilization survives from such ancient times using such skills which means it has been practicle since ages. the real speed and power and fludity behind such skills from decades of practices. we cant judge such skills by watching alone.
